    • Day off Saturday
Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Padres.

Advice: Marte was in the lineup for each of the previous four tilts, but he will receive a day of rest Saturday. DJ Stewart is handling right field for the Mets in this one. Rotowire.com Today, 10:04 am

    • Goes on paternity leave
The Guardians placed Ramirez on the paternity leave list Saturday.

Advice: Ramirez will likely miss his team's remaining two games this weekend in Toronto before rejoining them for the start of a homestand Tuesday following Monday's scheduled off day. Johnathan Rodriguez is taking Ramirez's roster spot and Daniel Schneemann is getting a start at third base Saturday versus the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com Today, 9:25 am

    • Guardians place José Ramírez on paternity list
Guardians placed 3B José Ramírez on the paternity list.

Advice: Ramírez will miss the remainder of Cleveland’s weekend series in Toronto to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. It’ll be Johnathan Rodriguez coming up to take his active roster spot. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar, who holds a sublime .864 OPS with 18 homers and 11 steals in 291 plate appearances over 66 games this season, should be back from paternity leave early next week. • Secures sixth save
Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

Advice: A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement. The 30-year-old right-hander is just 6-for-10 in converting save chances in 2024, but as long as he's healthy he should be locked in as the Mets' closer. Rotowire.com Today, 7:52 am
    • Max Scherzer to make rehab start Saturday at Triple-A
Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a minor league rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Scherzer appears to be close to making it back for the defending World Series champions after suffering a thumb-related setback during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery. The 39-year-old veteran righty continue building up his pitch count and stamina in this outing and should be ready to make his season debut by the end of the month. Rotoworld Today, 7:39 am

    • Nails down 21st save
Clase struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: After catching Vladimir Guerrero looking on a third strike, Clase coaxed routine groundballs from Bo Bichette and Justin Turner to end the game. The right-hander has converted eight straight save chances, posting a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB through 10 innings over that stretch, and Clase sits two back of the Cardinals' Ryan Helsley for the major-league saves lead. • Smashes homer in win
Garver went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Garver is up to eight homers this season, and he's hit three of them over his last eight games. In that stretch, he's batting .250 (6-for-24) with eight RBI and two doubles. It's encouraging to see more power out of the 33-year-old -- he went 18 games without a homer between May 13 and June 5. Garver is slashing a poor .176/.300/.352 across 230 plate appearances this season, though he's added 25 RBI, 23 runs scored and 10 doubles while seeing fairly steady playing time at designated hitter. • Strikes out seven in win
Castillo (6-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Castillo received an extra day of rest after Emerson Hancock got a spot start in Thursday's series finale versus the White Sox. It looks like that was a good move, as Castillo was able to bounce back from his worst start of the year to earn his third quality start in his last four outings. The right-hander limited the Rangers' offense to the first inning, when he gave up both runs and three of the four hits on his line. Castillo is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 92:24 K:BB over 89.1 innings through 15 starts. He's projected for a challenging road matchup versus the Guardians next week. • Mitch Garver connects on two-run homer in win
Mitch Garver hit a two-run homer to help the Mariners to a 3-2 win over the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Garver tied the game at 2-2 in the first inning with a blast that scored J-Rod in the first inning. The veteran backstop/DH has been swinging the bat much better as of late, and he’s now homered eight times with 25 RBI. Garver’s slash of .176/.300/.352 isn’t aesthetically pleasing, but again, those numbers aren’t indicative of the last few weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:39 pm
