    • Collects 22nd save
Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning Thursday, striking out one to earn the save against Seattle.

Advice: Clase had allowed earned runs in consecutive appearances on June 9 and 11 but has regained his form since, tossing his third consecutive clean outing to close out the game for the Guardians. Clase ranks first in the American League with 22 saves, ranking behind only Ryan Helsley of the Cardinals who has 24 to lead the major leagues. Through 35.1 innings this season, Clase has allowed only three earned runs for an ERA of 0.76 with a 0.62 WHIP and 36 strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 6:16 pm
    • Allows five earned runs in loss
Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead but with two outs, a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start on June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, having allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts. He'll look to put things back together during his next start, scheduled to take place next week when the Mariners travel to Tampa to take on the Rays. Rotowire.com Today, 6:08 pm

    • Struggles through five
Gore (6-6) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks in five innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out seven.

Advice: Gore was unable to match his opponent's efficiency on the mound, allowing 12 baserunners and needing 103 pitches to complete five frames. The Diamondbacks meanwhile needed only 87 pitches for the entirety of the contest including just 70 in seven innings by starter Ryne Nelson. Gore was done in by a lot of dink and dunk as nine of the 10 hits he allowed were singles. It was just the second time all season Gore has allowed more than three runs and was the fifth time he's eclipsed the 100-pitch plateau. The performance raised Gore's ERA from 3.24 to 3.49 while his WHIP lifted from 1.32 to 1.39. His next opportunity to toe the rubber is set for early next week when the Nationals travel to San Diego to take on the Padres. Rotowire.com Today, 4:05 pm
    • Yu Darvish ready to return next week for Padres
Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters Yu Darvish (groin) will return next week.

Advice: No definitive date yet for Darvish to rejoin San Diego’s starting rotation, but he figures to take the ball at some point during their next series against the Nationals, most likely on Tuesday in place of rookie Adam Mazur. The 37-year-old veteran righty made it through Wednesday’s minor league rehab outing for High-A Fort Wayne without any issues and is on track to return next week. He’s been out since late May recovering from a groin strain. Rotoworld Today, 3:39 pm

    • Emmanuel Clase gets 22nd save against Mariners
Emmanuel Clase hurled a scoreless ninth to pick up a save against the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: It’s already the 22nd save of the season for Clase, and the hunt for a 50-save season is certainly on. The right-hander didn’t allow a hit and procured a strikeout, and the scoreless frame puts his ERA at a dazzling 0.76. A spectacular season for Clase, and there’s every reason to believe he can keep it going through the second half of the campaign. Rotoworld Today, 12:39 pm
    • Luis Castillo struggles in start vs. Guardians
Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings against the Guardians on Thursday while picking up a loss.

Advice: Castillo allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up two homers in the outing; a solo blast by Will Brennan, and a two-run shot to Andres Gimenez in the fifth. It’s a disappointing outing for the right-hander, and it’s the second time in three outings he’s given up five runs in as many frames. Expect Castillo to bounce back next week against the Rays in Tampa. Rotoworld Today, 12:38 pm

    • MacKenzie Gore allows 10 hits in loss to D-Backs
MacKenzie Gore allowed four runs while working five innings in a loss Thursday to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gore did strike out seven, but he allowed 10 hits while also issuing two walks. Unsurprisingly, this left Gore with a high pitch count, as he needed 103 pitches to get through those five frames. The 25-year-old southpaw was coming off back-to-back excellent outings, but outside of the strikeouts, there weren’t many positives here. Gore is scheduled to face the Padres next week. • Nolan Arenado (elbow) not in Thursday’s lineup
Nolan Arenado (elbow) is not in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Giants.

Advice: As expected, Arenado is sitting out Thursday’s series opener against the Giants after X-rays came back negative on is left elbow after being hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s game against the Marlins. He had previously said he hoped to return by Saturday, so the Cardinals will continue to give him a couple of days off. Brandon Crawford will start at third base on Thursday and bat seventh. • Sitting as expected
Arenado (elbow) isn't in the starting lineup Thursday against the Giants, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Arenado said Wednesday that he's aiming to return to the Cardinals' lineup Saturday, so his absence from Thursday's starting nine hardly comes as a surprise. Brandon Crawford will get the nod at the hot corner and bat seventh while Arenado continues to recover. Rotowire.com Today, 11:49 am
