    • On bench Sunday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Jeffers and Christian Vazquez continue to split playing time behind the plate. Jeffers went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's contest, which brought an end to his modest seven-game hit streak. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

    • Gabriel Moreno (thumb) could return Tuesday
Gabriel Moreno (thumb) could be activated off the injured list as as soon as Tuesday, Jody Jackson of the Diamondbacks reports.

Advice: Moreno was placed on the injured list last Saturday with a sprained left thumb, and he’ll be eligible for activation Tuesday. The 24-year-old may get a couple extra days, but the Diamondbacks already announced they don’t believe he needs a rehab assignment, so it would take something unforeseeable for him not to be back before the middle of the week. • Progressing, but timeline unknown
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that Bednar is making progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Though Cherington struck an optimistic tone about Bednar's health, the two-time All-Star doesn't appear to have a concrete timeline to return from the 15-day injured list. Bednar is first eligible for activation next weekend, but since he has yet to resume throwing since landing on the shelf, he wouldn't appear on track for a return in the minimum amount of time. • Homers in loss
Duran went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 11-1 loss to the Padres.

Advice: Duran launched his eighth home run in 82 games, tying the career high he set last season over 102 games. He's finishing off what may be the best month of his career; he's batting .365/.417/.615 with five home runs and 15 RBI in June. Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am

    • Julio Rodríguez goes hitless Saturday vs. Twins
Julio Rodríguez went 0-for-4 on Saturday in the Mariners’ loss to the Twins.

Advice: It’s been a trying first half for Rodríguez, who went hitless during Saturday’s losing effort despite a scalding a 102-mph line-drive off Twins starter Pablo López in the third inning that went for a lineout. The 23-year-old franchise cornerstone’s latest hitless performance drops his full-season batting average back down to a pedestrian .248 mark. The even more problematic development for fantasy purposes is that he’s gone deep just seven times this season, with nearly half of those coming over his last 30 games. He’s mired in an extended tailspin at the dish right now, batting .138 (8-for-58) with two homers and zero steals over his last 15 games. Rotoworld Today, 3:50 am

    • Triumphant in return
Gallen (6-4) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out seven over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Saturday.

Advice: Gallen returned from a hamstring injury that cost him nearly a month and took full advantage of a soft matchup. This was the fourth time this season he's gone six innings in a start without allowing a run. He's also posted five quality starts in his last six outings, with the lone exception being the May 30 start that ended with the aforementioned hamstring injury before he could record an out. The right-hander is now at a 2.83 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 67:16 K:BB through 63.2 innings over 12 starts. Gallen threw 77 pitches (50 strikes) Saturday, so he should be good for a full workload his next time out, which is tentatively projected for a road outing at San Diego. • Jarren Duran swats homer in blowout defeat
Jarren Duran hit a solo homer in a blowout loss to the Padres on Saturday.

Advice: Duran took Michael King deep in what ended up being the only run of the game for the Red Sox in the sixth inning. It also came with Boston trailing 10-0, but still counts just the same. Duran has been nothing short of spectacular in June with a .366/.420/.594 slash, and he’s now up to eight homers and 38 RBI to go along with his 20 stolen bases across the 2024 campaign. • Gallen throws six shutout innings in win vs. A’s
Zac Gallen allowed no runs in six innings and got the win in the Diamondbacks’ 3-0 victory over the Athletics on Saturday.

Advice: Gallen gave up one hit, walked one and struck out seven. Even though the Athletics offense is nothing to write home about, Gallen was excellent in his first major league start since May 30th. Gallen has finished in the top five of the Cy Young award voting each of the last two years and appeared to have similar form in this start. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres on the road next week.

    • Gabriel Moreno (thumb) won’t need rehab assignment
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday that Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is not expected to require a rehab assignment.

Advice: Moreno is getting back up to speed in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League at the moment, but Lovullo made it sound like he’ll return on Tuesday instead of getting into some additional minor league contests. The 24-year-old backstop has been out since last weekend due to a left thumb sprain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:35 am
