    • Throws six shutout innings
Brown (8-6) allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Mariners on Friday.

Advice: Brown walked multiple batters for the fourth time in five starts, but his only loss in that span is the one time he walked just one. He's kept opponents off the board in five of his last eight outings and has record a quality start in 10 of his last 11 games. Brown's walk rate is about the only issue for him at this point in the year -- he has a 3.5 BB/9 overall, though it's down to 2.7 since May 22. The 25-year-old has added a 4.14 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 110:41 K:BB through 104.1 innings across 20 appearances (19 starts). Brown is projected to face the Athletics in a road start next week. • Hunter Brown blanks M’s with six scoreless in win
Hunter Brown blanked the Mariners over six innings to get a win Friday in the Astros’ 3-0 win.

Advice: Brown was one of the best options in baseball over the final two months before the break, and that good run continued Friday. He did issue three walks, but he worked around those bases on balls with five strikeouts and wiggled out of the few jams he created. Brown’s ERA is now 4.14; a much more impressive number when you consider it was 7.71 on May 17. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:30 pm
    • Trea Turner clocks another home run
Trea Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, walk, and two runs scored on Friday against the Pirates.

Advice: Turner has been on a power barrage. The long ball was his ninth in July and third in as many games, going back to before the All-Star break. His 12 home runs in 58 games puts him on the best power pace of his career. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:05 pm
    • Astros tab Hunter Brown to start second half
Hunter Brown will start Friday’s second-half series opener against the division-rival Mariners.

Advice: It appeared almost certain that Brown would be demoted after a brutal nine-start stretch to open the year, but he managed to turn things around to finish the first half with an impressive 2.36 ERA over his final 10 outings since May 22. It’ll be Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to round out the first series of the second half for Houston on the road at T-Mobile Park. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:46 pm
    • Taking part in strengthening work
Luzardo (back) has been participating in bike workouts and working on forearm and shoulder strengthening in recent weeks, MLB.com reports.

Advice: While Luzardo hasn't been shut down from physical activity since landing on the injured list June 22 with a lumbar stress reaction, he's yet to resume throwing after nearly a month. The Marlins transferred him to the 60-day injured list a day after placing him on the 15-day IL, so the club is already preparing for his absence to extend into the second half of August. A clearer target date for his return won't be available until he's ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:08 pm

    • Captures Home Run Derby crown
Hernandez defeated the Royals' Bobby Witt, 14-13, in the final round of the 2024 Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field on Monday.

Advice: The 31-year-old became the first Dodgers player to win the Home Run Derby in the event's 38-year history and took home a $1 million prize. A first-time participant in the Home Run Derby, Hernandez secured the final spot in the semifinals after his opening-round total of 19 home runs trailed the Phillies' Alec Bohm (21), the Guardians' Jose Ramirez (21) and Witt (20). Hernandez then survived a swing-off with Bohm after the two tied with 14 home runs in the semifinals before he narrowly edged out Witt in the finals. Hernandez is slated to start for the National League in center field in Tuesday's All-Star Game and will bat eighth. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:48 am
    • Teoscar Hernández wins Home Run Derby
Teoscar Hernández won the Home Run Derby on Monday, beating Bobby Witt Jr. 14-13 in the finals.

Advice: Witt came up just a few feet short on his final swing of going to a swing off. MLB’s new format tonight helped prevent any standout performances by adding a clock and a pitch limit, and Alec Bohm’s 21-homer showing as the very first batter in the first round actually ended up as the biggest number of the night. Still, it made for a close competition, and everything was very much in doubt until the very end. Hernández barely survived the semis after Bohm faltered on his final few swings and then edged Witt in the shorter final round. Rotoworld Monday, 7:55 pm
    • Goes deep in loss
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Crawford opened up the scoring with a solo blast in the sixth for his only hit of the afternoon. He'll head into the break with a six-game on-base streak and two home runs over his last four games. It's been a struggle overall for the 29-year-old, who is slashing .209/.304/.358 with nine homers, 32 RBI, 41 runs and a 38:72 BB:K in 322 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Monday, 6:42 am
    • Logs fifth steal
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rays.

Advice: This was Kwan's first steal since June 25 and his fifth of the campaign on nine attempts. Given he missed a month with a hamstring issue, it's not a surprise he's been a bit more cautious on the basepaths. The outfielder is batting .283 in July and now has a .352/.407/.512 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 55 runs scored, 14 doubles and two triples through 308 plate appearances this year.
