    • Irvin allows one in six innings in win over Rays
Jake Irvin allowed one run in six innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 8-1 victory over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: Irvin gave up one hit, walked three and struck out six. He allowed a solo home run to Brandon Lowe in the first inning, but was otherwise excellent. Irvin won four of his five starts in June and lowered his ERA to 3.03 on the year. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home next week.

    • Hector Neris works around jam to pick up save
Hector Neris allowed two baserunners, but was able to fire a scoreless inning while picking up a save against the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: The Hector Neris experience is often successful, but it’s always an experience. The right-hander allowed the winning run to reach the plate after giving up a hit and a walk, but he was able to strike out pinch-hitter Tyler Black and Brice Turang to keep the runners off the board and pick up his 11th save of 2024. • Tobias Myers gets quality start, no-decision
Tobias Myers went six innings while allowing three runs and not factoring into the decision Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: Myers dealt with quite a bit of traffic Saturday, as he allowed seven hits and also issued a pair of walks. He was able to work around that traffic for the most part, thanks largely to six strikeouts and a couple of double plays. The 25-year-old gave up a two-run homer to Michael Busch in the first, but it was (mostly) smooth sailing from that point on. Myers does see his ERA jump up to 3.26, but that’s still a very solid number for the right-handed hurler. He faces Colorado next, and it’s worth pointing out that start will take place in Denver. • Tyler Mahle (elbow) ready for rehab assignment
Tyler Mahle (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and will likely need at least three starts in the minor leagues before he’s an option to join the Rangers’ rotation. If all goes according to plan, Mahle could be ready to make his 2024 season debut shortly after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:41 pm

    • Jake Bloss (shoulder) throwing bullpen on Sunday
Jake Bloss (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

Advice: Bloss resumed throwing earlier this week and figures to be ready to return from the injured list at some point in early July. The 23-year-old rookie landed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:32 am

    • Starts rehab assignment
Garcia (elbow) has been sent to the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate to begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: It will be the first game action for Garcia since he underwent Tommy John surgery last May. The 27-year-old will need most, if not all, of his 30-day rehab window to get built up, but he could prove to be a nice boost to the Astros' rotation after the All-Star break. Garcia holds a career 3.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 364:112 K:BB across 352 innings. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:34 am

    • Snags seventh win
Neris (7-2) tossed a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn the win in Thursday's 5-3, 10-inning victory over the Giants.

Advice: Neris went through a rough patch earlier this month but has pitched better lately, tossing scoreless innings in consecutive outings with four total strikeouts. The veteran once again didn't see a save opportunity, as that went to Porter Hodge on Thursday, but it was encouraging to see Neris still work in a high-leverage spot. He figures to remain Chicago's closer moving forward, though he could be replaced if his struggles resurface. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:23 pm
    • Jake Bloss (shoulder) resumes throwing
Jake Bloss (shoulder) has resumed throwing.

Advice: Bloss was placed on the injured list last week with right shoulder inflammation, but a subsequent MRI revealed no structural damage, and he’s targeting a return to Houston’s injury-depleted pitching mix when first eligible to return. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:49 pm

    • Next rehab outing set
Marquez (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Marquez made his most recent rehab outing Saturday with High-A Spokane and threw 58 pitches over four scoreless frames. The right-hander will head to the highest level of the minors to put the finishing touches on his rehab from Tommy John surgery, and he could make his season debut in early July.
