    • Edouard Julien sitting on opening day vs a LHP
Edouard Julien is on the bench for Thursday’s Opening Day matchup against the Royals with Kyle Farmer starting at second base and hitting seventh.

Advice: The Royals are throwing left-hander Cole Ragans, so the Twins are sitting the majority of their left-handed starters. This was the case for Julien last year and it appears that will carry over into 2024. The same is true for Alex Kirilloff and Matt Wallner, who also find themselves on the bench against Ragans. All three should start regularly against right-handed pitchers, but fantasy managers with weekly lineup leagues should always check to see how many lefties the Twins are set to face in a given week. The opening day lineup for the Twins will be Byron Buxton CF, Ryan Jeffers, C, Royce Lewis 3B, Carlos Correa, SS, Carlos Santana 1B, Max Kepler, RF, Kyle Farmer, 2B, Willi Castro LF, Manuel Margot DH. • On bench versus lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Thursday's season opener in Kansas City.

Advice: The Royals are throwing left-hander Cole Ragans, so Juilen will yield to the right-handed hitting Kyle Farmer at second base. While it migh not be a strict platoon at the keystone, Julien seems likely to be on the bench at least against tougher southpaws like Ragans. Rotowire.com Today, 8:13 am
    • Reds put Matt McLain (shoulder) on 10-day IL
Reds placed 2B/SS Matt McLain on the 10-day injured list following left shoulder surgery.

Advice: There isn’t a definitive timetable for McLain to return this season after undergoing surgery this week to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. It’s a significant loss for the Reds, and fantasy managers, as the 24-year-old looked like a potential five-category stalwart last year in his first taste of the majors. There should be some clarity on his potential return at some point in the coming weeks, but he’s facing a lengthy absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:27 pm

    • Placed on 10-day IL
The Reds placed McLain (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: McLain underwent surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday and a timetable for his return remains unclear. Although it is still possible he plays this year, fantasy managers shouldn't expect the 24-year-old to return to the field until at least the second half of the season. Jonathan India will likely assume the role as Cincinnati's primary second baseman while McLain is out. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:21 pm

    • Lined up for Sunday or Monday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Gausman (shoulder) will make his season debut either Sunday in Tampa Bay or Monday in Houston, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Advice: Gausman looked terrific in his one and only Grapefruit League outing Monday and will be able to avoid the injured list following a bout with shoulder fatigue. Signs had pointed to him making his season debut Monday, and while that could still happen, Sunday is evidently on the table, as well. Bowden Francis would get the ball on whichever of those days Gausman does not start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:18 pm
    • Matt McLain undergoes shoulder surgery
Matt McLain underwent shoulder surgery to address cartilage damage and repair his labrum.

Advice: The team said his return is still to be determined, but the hope is that the 24-year-old is back in the mix sometime this season. For the time being, Elly De La Cruz will be the Reds’ primary shortstop and Jonathan India will hold ground at second. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 am

    • Undergoes shoulder surgery
McLain underwent surgery Tuesday to repair cartilage damage and the labrum in his left shoulder, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall said that while the team hopes to get McLain back at some point this season, the timetable for this type of surgery has a wide range of possibilities. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues that had stashed McLain with the hope of a quick return from the injured list probably shouldn't be counting on him being a major contributor this season and may be better off using his roster spot elsewhere. With McLain out indefinitely, Jonathan India is once again poised to be Cincinnati's regular second baseman. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:32 am

    • Preps for regular season
Pfaadt allowed one run on three hits and struck out four over five innings in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Guardians.

Advice: Pfaadt made his first start since March 10, although he's pitched on the back fields between then and now. He finished spring training with a 6.75 ERA and a 6:1 K:BB over 10.2 innings. He's expected to start the fourth game of the season Sunday at home against the Rockies. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:09 pm

    • Michael King strikes out seven against Mariners
Michael King pitched relatively well in his final spring training tune-up on Tuesday, giving up three runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings against the Mariners.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Julio Rodriguez launching a two-run shot in the opening inning and Dylan Moore belting a solo shot in the second inning. King will make his first start — and try for his second victory of the regular season — when he takes the hill against the Giants on Sunday. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:17 pm
