    • Ceddanne Rafaela homers twice in win over Tigers
Ceddanne Rafaela crushed a pair of home runs and drove in five on Friday night, propelling the Red Sox to a lopsided 7-3 victory over the Tigers at Fenway Park.

Advice: The 23-year-old outfielder broke the game open with a 359-foot (101.0 mph) three-run shot to left off of Kenta Maeda in the fourth inning — giving the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. He added to that lead with a 375-foot (99.5 mph EV) two-run shot off of Joey Wentz in the sixth inning that made it a 7-1 ballgame. Rafaela finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .211/.239/.387 to go along with seven homers and 33 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:42 pm

    • David Hamilton has three hits, swipe in victory
David Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base as the Red Sox triumphed over the Tigers on Friday evening.

Advice: All three of Hamilton’s hits in the ballgame were singles. He reached on a one-out single off of Joey Wentz in the sixth inning, swiped second base and then rode home on Ceddanne Rafaela’s second long ball of the night. With his three-hit attack. Hamilton is now slashing .281/.347/.416 with two homers, six RBI and nine stolen bases on the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:42 pm

    • Edmundo Sosa powers Phillies past Cardinals
Edmundo Sosa clobbered a two-run homer on Friday night, powering the Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Cardinals.

Advice: The 28-year-old shortstop capped off a three-run rally in the second inning with his mammoth 439-foot (110.0 mph EV) two-run blast on the first pitch that he saw from Miles Mikolas. That would be his only hit in three at-bats on the night. Sosa has been swinging a very hot stick for the Phillies — slashing .307/.378/.591 with four long balls and 15 RBI in his first 99 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:58 pm

    • Brandon Crawford leaves the yard in loss Friday
Brandon Crawford blasted his first home run as a member of the Cardinals on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to lead his club past the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Advice: Crawford got the Cardinals on the board in the third inning with his 410-foot (102.2 mph EV) solo shot off of Phillies’ right-hander Aaron Nola. He also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-2. On the season, the 37-year-old shortstop is slashing a pitiful .152/.222/.242 to go with his lone homer and one RBI on the season. • Nick Ahmed starting rehab assignment on Saturday
Nick Ahmed (wrist) will begin his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

Advice: Ahmed has been sidelined since April 27 when he was struck on the wrist by a 108-mph line drive. Marco Luciano had been functioning as the team’s regular shortstop in his absence, but he landed on the injured list himself on Friday, so the team is now rolling with a combination of Brett Wisely and Casey Schmitt until Ahmed is ready to return. He should only need a couple of rehab games before he’s ready. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:59 pm

    • Starting rehab assignment Saturday
Ahmed (wrist) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Ahmed landed on the injured list after spraining his left wrist against Atlanta on May 9. Prior to the injury, he was slashing .236/.274/.291 with 11 RBI. It's unclear how many rehab outings Ahmed will have, but a return to the big club would be timely after Marco Luciano was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday due to a right hamstring strain. • Recalled by San Francisco
The Giants recalled Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Advice: The move corresponds with Marco Luciano being placed on the injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Since being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on May 17, Schmitt has gone 14-for-44 with 12 runs, four home runs and 12 RBI. With both Luciano and Nick Ahmed (wrist) on the IL, Schmitt will likely form a platoon at shortstop with the lefty-hitting Brett Wisely. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:41 pm

    • Giants recall Casey Schmitt from Triple-A
Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder will get another opportunity with the big league club with Marco Luciano (hamstring) heading to the injured list on Friday. Schmitt has struggled in his limited action this season, hitting just .136 (3-for-22) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio. Look for Brett Wisely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Luciano shelved. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:37 pm

    • Giants place Marco Luciano (hamstring) on IL
Giants placed INF Marco Luciano on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 30, with a right hamstring strain.

Advice: The 22-year-old infielder suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game. It’s unclear how long he’ll be shelved for. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his place on the active roster. Expect Schmitt and Brett Wisely to both see action at shortstop while Luciano is sidelined.
