    • Ben Rice launches three homers versus Red Sox
Ben Rice went 3-for-5 with three homers and seven RBI to power the Yankees to a 14-4 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: What a day for the rookie. Starting at first base and hitting leadoff, Rice got the scoring started with a solo blast off Josh Winckowski in the first inning. He later launched his second homer of the game, a three-run shot off Chase Anderson in part of a seven-run fifth inning for New York. Rice then went yard for a third time with another three-run homer in the seventh. The 25-year-old is off to an impressive start with the Yankees, slashing .294/.383/.588 with four homers and 12 RBI across 60 plate appearances. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Progressing through rehab program
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol said Saturday that Herrera (back) experienced no pain after Friday's rehab outing with Triple-A Memphis, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: As the designated hitter Friday, Herrera went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI and one walk. Marmol noted that Herrera will start behind home plate soon, and a return to the majors will hinge on the 24-year-old's ability to start at catcher in back-to-back days. Before landing on the injured list June 22 with lower-back tightness, Herrera was slashing .279/.340/.378 with three home runs and 19 RBI over 191 major-league plate appearances. • Getting extended time off
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that the Cubs are giving Amaya extra time off to work through his struggles at the plate, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Amaya is slashing .186/.249/.256 with two home runs and 15 RBI this season, but since June 1 those numbers have dipped to .167/.231/.200. Tomas Nido is starting behind home plate Saturday, and he figures to see more full-time work moving forward while Amaya works on things offensively. Rotowire.com Today, 11:20 am

    • Sitting versus southpaw
Soderstrom isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against Baltimore.

Advice: Left-hander Cade Povich will start on the mound for the O's, forcing the lefty-hitting Soderstrom into the dugout to begin Saturday's contest. In his place, Armando Alvarez will start at first base and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Today, 11:10 am

    • Idle versus lefty
Rortvedt isn't in the Rays' lineup for Saturday's game versus Texas, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: With left-hander Andrew Heaney on the mound for Texas, the lefty-hitting Rortvedt will step out of Tampa Bay's lineup Saturday. Alex Jackson will fill in at catcher and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 10:56 am
    • Franciso Alvarez out Saturday with elbow soreness
Francisco Alvarez is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Pirates due to left elbow soreness.

Advice: Alvarez took a 99-mph fastball from Pirates starter Paul Skenes off his left elbow during Friday’s showdown, so it makes sense that he’s going to get some extra time to rest and recover. It’ll be Luis Torrens handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon in his place. The 22-year-old backstop is probably fine, but it’s something to keep an eye on over the rest of the weekend. • Racks up three hits
Fermin went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Fermin has three multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, but that's a span that dates back to June 20. The backup catcher is making the most of his opportunities this year, slashing .303/.355/.439 with four home runs, 19 RBI, 24 runs scored and nine doubles over 169 plate appearances. Fermin's reliability has allowed Salvador Perez to rest or serve as designated hitter regularly. Fermin's playing time had declined while Michael Massey was limited to DH duties, but Massey has been cleared to play the field and should see more time at second base in the second half. • Sitting again Saturday
Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Rogers has tallied a base hit in three of his last four games, but he will now take a seat for the third time in Detroit's last four contests while Carson Kelly picks up another start behind the plate. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am
    • Pushed off 40-man
The Mariners designated Zavala for assignment Saturday.

Advice: Zavala was selected to the active roster Tuesday to provide additional depth behind the plate, and he'll now be pushed back off the 40-man without appearing in a game for Seattle. The 30-year-old backstop passed through waivers unclaimed when he was DFA'd in June, and it's likely he does so again this time around. Emerson Hancock was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 10:04 am
