    • Allows one run in no-decision
Civale did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings against the Pirates. He struck out three.

Advice: Civale was pulled after having tossed a season-low 61 pitches over five effective innings, with the only blemish coming in the form of a Bryan Reynolds fourth-inning solo homer. It appears this was more of a managerial decision due to the heat and the Pirates having the top of the order coming up for a third time as opposed to any type of distress for Civale, who rebounded from his previous outing when he was chased after failing to complete four innings. Civale has struck out 79 in 76.1 innings this season and will carry a 5.42 ERA and 1.39 WHIP into his next start, currently slated to take place next weekend when the Rays welcome the Nationals to Tampa for a three-game set. • Tagged with seven runs
Rodriguez (8-3) allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks over five-plus innings Friday, striking out eight and taking a loss against Houston.

Advice: Rodriguez gave up runs in the first and second innings but the real damage didn't come until later. He coughed up a three-run shot to Jake Meyers in the fifth inning and was charged with two runs during Houston's nine-run sixth. Rodriguez saw his three-game winning streak come to an end while taking his first loss of the month. He's given up seven runs twice this season but has allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his 13 outings, resulting in a 3.82 ERA overall. The 24-year-old righty is in line for a home matchup with Cleveland next week. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:15 am
    • Grayson Rodriguez tagged for seven runs by Astros
Grayson Rodriguez surrendered seven runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Every time it looks like Rodriguez is ready to turn the corner and become an elite fantasy starter, something like this happens. Still, Rodriguez appears to be on the right path. Just three times this season has he allowed more than two earned runs, and while he’s been lit up for 18 runs in those three starts, he’s actually posted a 25/4 K/BB ratio in those outings. • Strikes out 10 in short start
Cease allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Cease has failed to complete five innings in three of his last seven starts. He labored in this one, throwing 68 of 106 pitches for strikes while posting double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year. The right-hander is at a 4.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 116:28 K:BB over 91.1 innings through 16 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Nationals. • Dylan Cease strikes out 10, allows four runs vs. MIL
Dylan Cease allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision with 10 strikeouts against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Cease needed 106 pitches to get the 14 outs, so he wasn’t able to get the final out needed to qualify for a win. The right-hander did at least help with the punchouts, and he’s now struck out 116 in his 91 1/3 innings in his first year with the Padres. Cease has scuffled in June, and will try and be more efficient — while still missing bats — against the Nationals on Wednesday. Rotoworld Friday, 10:00 pm

    • Nearing mound work
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Rodriguez will likely begin throwing off a mound within the next week after the latest imaging on his left shoulder showed "almost 100 percent healing," Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez has been out all season with a left shoulder strain, having hit a roadblock in April when he experienced renewed tightness. He's trending in a positive direction now, although he'll require a lengthy ramp-up period upon resuming mound work. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:50 am

    • Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) gets good news after MRI
Eduardo Rodriguez’s MRI over the weekend came back as hoped, and he could throw off a mound next week.

Advice: Rodriguez has been sidelined since the spring with a lat strain. The best-case scenario at this point is probably for a return shortly after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:46 am

    • Chased in fourth inning
Civale didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: While Civale kept the Twins scoreless through three innings, he unraveled in the fourth. The 29-year-old surrendered a single, a walk and a pair of doubles to consecutive batters, all with two outs, before being replaced by Kevin Kelly. Tuesday's start marked Civale's first time failing to complete four innings this season, and he hasn't added a tally to the win column since April 9. In 76.1 innings of work, Civale owns a 5.42 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP with 79 strikeouts. He's tentatively scheduled for a road start against the Pirates to end his two-start week.
