    • Kyle Gibson goes seven in shutout of Cubs
      Kyle Gibson blanked the Cubs for seven innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 shutout Friday.

      Advice: Gibson gave up a long fly to Cody Bellinger that probably would have been a homer on another day, but not this one. Apart from that, he was very effective in allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six. He almost missed out on a win anyway; Patrick Wisdom absolutely crushed a ball in the eighth that by all rights should have been a go-ahead, two-run homer. Instead, the wind crushed it right back, resulting in a 354-foot flyout. It’s the first time in 14 starts this season in which Gibson has gone without allowing a run. He’s 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA.       Gibson (5-2) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Gibson was excellent Friday, turning in a season-high seven innings in his first scoreless outing of the year. The 36-year-old Gibson has been solid of late, working to a 2.19 ERA over his last five starts. Overall, his ERA is down to 3.44 on the campaign with a 1.20 WHIP and 73:31 K:BB across 83.2 innings. It paid off immediately when Walker belted a three-run homer off a four-seamer in the first inning to give Arizona a 3-0 lead. "I've been missing fastballs [and fouling them] straight back a little bit and it's been bothering me," Walker said. He followed that up a solo shot in the third -- a slider this time.
