    • Strikes out two for 21st save
Kimbrel picked up the save over the Mariners on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out two.

Advice: Kimbrel entered the contest with a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and fanned the first two batters he faced before getting Julio Rodriguez to pop out to first for the final out. The veteran reliever has converted each of his last five save attempts, posting a 9:3 K:BB over that stretch while not allowing any hits. Kimbrel has also recorded two or more strikeouts in four of his last five appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:08 am
    • Sitting against left-hander
Garcia is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Garcia slugged a pair of home runs in Wednesday's win over the Mets but nonetheless finds himself on the bench a day later with southpaw Jose Quintana on the hill. Ildemaro Vargas will be at second base for the Nationals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 am

    • Swats first homer since return
Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: The 32-year-old catcher tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning by taking Colin Holderman deep. It was Contreras' seventh homer of the year but his first in nine games since returning from a fractured forearm, a stretch in which he's batting just .200 (6-for-30). He does have extra-base hits in back-to-back contests after ripping a double Tuesday, however, so he's showing signs of regaining his form at the plate. On the campaign, Contreras is slashing .263/.395/.504 through 40 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:56 am
    • Homers twice Wednesday
Garcia went 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, three total runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 win against the Mets.

Advice: Garcia hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning and added a solo blast in the eighth. It was the second multi-homer game of the infielder's career, and the four RBI tied a season-high mark. Garcia has already matched the career-high total of nine long balls he accumulated last year, and he's 10 shy of his career-best mark of 50 RBI, which he also reached last season. • Notches 23rd save
Finnegan earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday with a perfect inning of work.

Advice: Finnegan protected a two-run, ninth-inning lead by retiring the side in order on 11 pitches. The right-hander has converted 10 of his past 11 save chances and has allowed just four runs over 17.1 innings during that span. Finnegan has been one of MLB's best closers this season, ranking third in the league with 23 saves while posting a 1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over 36.1 frames. • Craig Kimbrel picks up 21st save Wednesday
Craig Kimbrel struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to earn the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Kimbrel was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth. He made quick work of the Mariners, striking out two batters in a perfect inning on 18 pitches. The 36-year-old right-hander picks up his 21st save and 437th of his career, moving him ahead of Francisco Rodríguez for fourth all time. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:41 pm
    • Willson Contreras swats two-run homer in defeat
Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Cardinals’ extra-inning loss at the hands of the Pirates.

Advice: Contreras walloped a game-tying shot off Pirates reliever Colin Holderman, who has been outstanding this season in a setup role for Pittsburgh, in the eighth inning to help send this one to extra innings. It was his lone hit in three at-bats, but he also drew a pair of walks in this one. It was the first big fly for the 32-year-old veteran backstop since returning from the injured list back on June 24. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:50 pm
    • Luis García Jr. smacks two home runs in win
Luis García Jr. went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in the Nationals’ 7-5 win over the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: This was and second multi-homer game in García’s and each one was mightily important to the Nationals’ victory. His first was a moonshot off a hanging Christian Scott sweeper that cut the Mets’ lead from 5-1 to 5-4 and his next provided a valuable insurance run in the eighth inning. The two home runs pushed García to nine on the season, already tying his career-best mark set last season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:36 pm

    • Kyle Finnegan shuts down Mets for save
Kyle Finnegan worked a clean ninth inning on Wednesday to earn the save against the Mets.

Advice: Finnegan earned his 23rd save of the season, third most in the league, on Wednesday night. He looked sharp as he worked his third consecutive game and dropped his ERA down to 1.98. He’s been one of the most reliable closers in baseball so far this season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:35 pm
