    • Confirmed for start Saturday
The Diamondbacks will reinstate Gallen (hamstring) from the injured list to start Saturday's game against Oakland, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: After spending nearly a full month on the injured list thanks to a right hamstring strain, Gallen will officially return to the D-backs' rotation Saturday. He never appeared in a rehab game with one of Arizona's minor-league affiliates, though he did throw a handful of simulated games, reaching 67 pitches in his most recent session Monday. It's unclear if the 28-year-old righty will be operating under a pitch/innings restriction during his first start back, but he will certainly have a favorable matchup against an Oakland offense that ranks 28th in MLB in runs scored (305). • Slugs 11th homer
Merrill went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-2 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The rookie capped San Diego's improbable nine-run fifth inning by sending a Greg Weissert fastball over the fence in straightaway center field. Merrill's power has emerged as the weather has heated up -- while his 11 homers through 82 games is already good for a 21-year-old in his first MLB campaign, eight of those long balls have come in his last 15 contests, a stretch in which he's batting .309 (17-for-55) with 11 runs and 16 RBI. • Helsley barely avoids game-tying homer in save
Ryan Helsley worked a flawless ninth for his 29th save Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Helsley very nearly surrendered a game-tying homer to Stuart Fairchild with two outs in the ninth, but Brendan Donovan made a jumping catch at the wall. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 14 of the 30 parks. This was a very quick outing for Helsley — he threw just six pitches — so even though he’s worked four out of six days, there’s a good chance he’ll be available Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:55 pm

    • Extends saves lead
Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25. He dropped his season ERA to 2.68 alongside a 44:16 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:43 pm

    • Jackson Chourio hits grand slam to lead Brewers
Jackson Chourio hit his first career grand slam Friday to provide all of the scoring as the Brewers beat the Cubs 4-2.

Advice: This one was pretty legit; the homer was projected at 377 feet and would have been out of 21 of the 30 ballparks. He still has just one no-doubter this year; he hit a Martín Pérez changeup 441 feet on May 15. Apart from that, his next farthest blast was 402 feet. Of course, more power is going to come in time here — Chourio is just 30 — and the fact that he has nine homers already is plenty impressive. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:08 pm

    • Belts grand slam
Chourio went 2-for-3 with a grand slam in Friday's win over the Cubs.

Advice: Chourio's grand slam in the fourth inning gave the Brewers the lead and proved to be the only offense the team could produce all night. He's homered in back-to-back games, though his home run Wednesday against Texas was inside-the-park. He's knocked nine homers with 33 RBI and a .676 OPS through 72 games this season. • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A. • Nick Gonzales doubles in loss
Nick Gonzales went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base on Friday against the Braves.

Advice: The double was Gonzales’ first extra-base hit in 12 games after smacking 12 in his first 30 contests this season. He’s still been a regular in the Pirates’ lineup despite the recent lack of power. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:09 pm

    • Resumes throwing program
Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Schmidt took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18 with a right lat strain, and before the injury he was 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings.
