Dylan Axelrod allowed five runs -- four earned -- over six innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Tuesday.
Advice: Axelrod was actually somewhat fortunate to allow just the four earned runs, as he surrendered 10 hits and two walks on the night. The right-hander has hit a bit of a rough stretch, as he hasn't gotten a win since May 26. He'll try to correct that Sunday in Kansas City.

Jeanmar Gomez (forearm) struck out four over five hitless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday.
Advice: He walked one batter, needing just 52 pitches to cover the five frames. Gomez allowed one earned run over three frames in his first rehab start. The righty appears to be ready to be activated and seems likely to return to the Pirates' rotation given the team's injuries.

Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th in a 3-2 game to earn the save as the Mariners edged the Angels on Tuesday.
Advice: Medina might have been in line for the save in the ninth anyway, given that Oliver Perez was used to pitch a scoreless seventh with the Mariners up 2-1. Tom Wilhelmsen let that lead get away in the eighth, but the Mariners reclaimed it in the 10th after Erick Aybar couldn't quite get a handle on Kendrys Morales' sharp liner over his head. Medina went on to retire Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick in order for the save. He's now a candidate for more saves, though he has the same sort of control troubles as Wilhelmsen. Even after tonight, he's walked 11 in his last 13 1/3 innings of work.

Tyson Ross struck out all five Giants he faced out of the pen on Wednesday.
Advice: He needed just 21 pitches to do it, too. The Padres said last month that Ross was going to get another shot in the rotation, but nothing of late suggests that they're intending to make that happen anytime soon. He ha a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings since coming off the DL and joining the pen.

Josh Collmenter allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings and struck out seven in relief of an injured Trevor Cahill against the Marlins on Wednesday.
Advice: Collmenter missed out on a start Tuesday, as the Diamondbacks picked Randall Delgado instead. He got what essentially was a start today anyway and was outstanding, though he didn't get a win out of it. He's 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 40 2/3 innings out of the pen this season.

Luke Gregerson gave up hits to all four Giants he faced and took a blown save and a loss on Wednesday.
Advice: Gregerson has already pushed back into a setup role with Huston Street back, but he's still struggling. He's given up six runs and 11 hits over 3 2/3 innings in his last five appearances.

Kevin Gregg nailed down his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.
Advice: Gregg came on in relief of Jeff Samardzija with one out and two on in the ninth and allowed an RBI single to Yadier Molina. He then induced what turned out to be the game-ending double play when pinch-runner Shane Robinson was called out for interference. He's capable of blowing up at any time, but Gregg has plenty of job security with a 0.81 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while going 10-for-10 in save chances.

Ross Detwiler allowed four runs over six innings in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.
Advice: The start was just Detwiler's second since returning from the disabled list, and he's yet to record a win since returning. He was decent until faltering in his last inning, allowing three runs and four hits in the sixth. It was otherwise a positive start for the southpaw. He'll continue to round into form when he faces the Rockies on Sunday.

Marco Estrada (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Wisconsin on Thursday.
Advice: That's assuming he's cleared by team physician William Raasch Wednesday following a successful 45-pitch bullpen session Tuesday. Estrada is expected to need just one rehab outing, putting him in line to rejoin the rotation next week.
