  • Addison Rusell clobbers two home runs in rout
Addison Russell clobbered a pair of home runs on Friday, leading the Cubs offense in a 14-5 rout over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Russell swatted a solo home run off D'Backs starter Zack Godley in the second inning, increasing the Cubbies early lead to 4-0. He victimized him again in the fourth, this time a two-run homer, putting the Cubs ahead 6-1. He also drew a walk, finishing the afternoon 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. The rookie shortstop is hitting .244/.303/.403 with 12 long balls and 41 RBI. Today, 4:02 pm

  • Aaron Barrett undergoes Tommy John surgery

  • Jose Iglesias (finger) to undergo more tests
Jose Iglesias will undergo more tests after his ailing right middle finger swelled up on him overnight.

Advice: Iglesias was diagnosed with just a bruise on Thursday, but his finger feels worse a day later and that's obviously not a good sign. The Tigers should have more on the shortstop's status at some point over the weekend. Today, 1:19 pm
  • Jorge Rondon recalled from Triple-A
Orioles recalled RHP Jorge Rondon from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Rondon holds an 11.88 ERA over his five appearances in the majors this season. He'll be used in the middle innings. Today, 12:43 pm
  • Dixon Machado recalled from Triple-A
Tigers recalled INF Dixon Machado from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Machado has just one hit in eight plate appearances this season with the big club. He'll provide some depth with Jose Iglesias (finger) banged up. Today, 12:30 pm
  • Hector Olivera not in lineup Friday
Hector Olivera is not in the Braves' lineup Friday.

Advice: It's a routine day off for Olivera, who has just one hit but three RBI in his first 10 at-bats for the Braves. Adonis Garcia is at third base Friday. Today, 12:21 pm
  • Donovan Solano recalled from Triple-A
Marlins recalled INF Donovan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: Solano has hit just a .156/.194/.219 over 46 games this season with the big club this season. He'll offer depth in the infield. Today, 10:20 am
  • Michael Feliz recalled from Double-A
Astros recalled RHP Michael Feliz from Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: Feliz made one scoreless appearance for the big club earlier this season. The hard-throwing righty has put up a 2.83 ERA with 103 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings between High- and Double-A this season. Today, 10:07 am
  • Elvis Araujo moved to 60-day DL
Phillies transferred LHP Elvis Araujo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Brian Bogusevic. Araujo is out for the season with a strained left groin. Today, 8:03 am
    60-Day DL
  • Brian Bogusevic called up from Triple-A
Phillies purchased the contract of OF Brian Bogusevic from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Bogusevic has hit .295/.360/.426 with 12 homers and 24 steals for Lehigh Valley this season. He'll provide depth with Domonic Brown's (concussion) situation up in the air. Today, 8:00 am
  • Al Alburquerque (hip) struggles in return
Al Alburquerque (hip) yielded four runs while retiring just one batter in his return to action Thursday.

Advice: He allowed two hits and two walks to the Royals. Alburquerque had been unavailable for over a week with discomfort in his right hip, so hopefully it's not still an issue for him. Today, 5:37 am
  • Solarte goes supernova on Dodgers
Yangervis Solarte finished with a huge game in Thursday's 10-7 win over the Dodgers, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles and three runs scored.

Advice: Tight effort by Solarte, who played a key role in the Padres' come-from-behind win. He cracked a solo homer in the seventh to draw his team to within 7-6, then finished off the night's scoring with an RBI double in a four-run eighth. The strong performance boosted the 28-year-old infielder's season triple-slash to .267/.321/.428. He's also hit 12 homers and driven in 55. This is the first season in which Solarte's seen more than 252 at-bats. Yesterday, 10:52 pm

  • Mat Latos allows four runs in four innings
Mat Latos wasn't long for Thursday's no-decision against the Padres, lasting just four innings while allowing four runs.

Advice: The Padres dinged Latos for eight hits over his limited time on the mound, scoring twice in the first inning and two more times in the second to account for all the damage on the right-hander's line. The tough start drove his ERA to 4.92. A short road trip for a date with the Angels is up next on his schedule. Yesterday, 10:34 pm
  • Iglesias is day-to-day with finger contusion
Jose Iglesias is considered day-to-day after leaving Thursday's game with a right middle finger contusion.

Advice: Considering how much pain Iglesias appeared to be in after getting drilled with a pitch while trying to bunt, he's lucky to have avoided a fracture. He should rejoin the Tigers lineup in a day or two. Yesterday, 7:31 pm
  • Jose Iglesias leaves game with hand injury
Jose Iglesias was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the Royals after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand while attempting to bunt.

Advice: The severity of the injury remains unclear, but it appeared as though Iglesias was in quite a bit of pain. He'll presumably head for X-rays and the Tigers should have an update on his status shortly. If he's forced to miss any time, Andrew Romine would be the biggest beneficiary. Yesterday, 6:48 pm
  • Alburquerque (hip) throws in bullpen
Al Alburquerque (hip) threw 10 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday.

Advice: Alburquerque hasn't pitched since August 24 due to discomfort in his right hip, but he felt fine during Thursday's bullpen. He could return to action as soon as Friday. Yesterday, 2:37 pm
  • Rondon on Orioles' taxi squad
Jorge Rondon has been placed on the Orioles' taxi squad.

Advice: Rondon is expected to be officially activated when Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder, elbow) is placed on the disabled lit. The 27-year-old was just sent down on August 27, so he's not eligible to return within 10 days unless there's an injury. Yesterday, 2:33 pm
  • Alburquerque undergoes MRI on right hip
Al Alburquerque underwent an MRI on his right hip Wednesday.

Advice: Alburquerque hasn't pitched since August 24 as he manages pain in the hip. More should be known about his condition after the results of the MRI are returned. Wednesday, 3:33 pm
  • Alburquerque dealing with upper leg soreness
Al Alburquerque acknowledged Wednesday that he's been dealing with some soreness in his upper right leg.

Advice: The discomfort is near his hip, but Alburquerque hopes to be available out of the Tigers' bullpen on Wednesday night against the Royals. The 29-year-old right-hander holds a 3.52 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 50/28 K/BB ratio in 53 2/3 innings this season for Detroit. Wednesday, 2:19 pm
  • Hector Olivera notches first MLB hit, RBIs
Hector Olivera delivered a two-run single for his first major league hit and RBIs in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Olivera also drew a walk, reaching base twice Wednesday after failing to get on in Tuesday's debut. The Cuban defector didn't do a ton in his 35 games in the minors before being promoted, but scouts generally agree that his bat is big league-ready. He could have some fantasy value down the stretch. Wednesday, 12:25 pm
  • Aaron Barrett likely needs Tommy John surgery
Aaron Barrett (elbow) likely needs Tommy John surgery.

Advice: He's being evaluated by Dr. James Andrews to see if there's another elbow procedure he might be able to have instead, but it looks like he'll have to have Tommy John. The surgery would keep him out until the 2017 season. Tuesday, 3:30 pm

  • Olivera in Braves' starting lineup Tuesday
Hector Olivera is in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

Advice: Olivera was originally on the bench, but he's now batting sixth and starting at third base. The 30-year-old is an intriguing player, but he hit just .231 with three doubles and a .593 OPS in 42 plate appearances during his time with Triple-A Gwinnett. Most fantasy owners can afford to wait and see with him. Tuesday, 12:28 pm
  • Braves call up Hector Olivera from Triple-A
Braves recalled 3B Hector Olivera from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Olivera had been expected to debut for the Braves a week ago, but the team kept him in the minors for a few more days. Between the Braves and Dodgers' various minor league levels, he's hit to a .272/.326/.376 triple-slash with two homers and 10 RBI in 135 plate appearances. He figures to start regularly at third now that he's up with the big club. There's possible fantasy potential moving forward with the Cuban import, though it's difficult to gauge exactly how he will fare against tougher pitchers. Tuesday, 11:37 am
  • Russell homers late, but Cubs fall to Reds
Addison Russell went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a solo home run, but the Cubs were handily beaten by the Reds on Monday.

Advice: Russell tied the game at 3-3 with his fifth-inning double, but the Cubs would fall behind 7-5 after the Reds scored six times in the top of the ninth. Russell made a feeble attempt at a comeback, drilling a solo home run in the ninth inning against Aroldis Chapman, but it was a drop in the ocean. The rookie is batting a mediocre .243/.300/.390 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI on the year. Monday, 8:46 pm

  • Elvis Araujo (groin) out for the season
Elvis Araujo (groin) is not expected to return this season.

Advice: The Phillies simply don't want to push the young left-hander. "I think [we're exercising] an overabundance of caution," assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. "He's done very well, and he's got a chance to be a piece for us going forward. There's no reason to take any unneeded chances with him." Araujo held a 3.38 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 34 2/3 innings with the Phils this season. Monday, 5:16 pm

  • Aaron Barrett (elbow) visits Dr. Andrews
Aaron Barrett recently visited Dr. James Andrews to get an opinion on his ailing right elbow.

Advice: The diagnosis isn't known yet, but Barrett is currently mulling over whether to have surgery or treat the elbow with a platelet-rich plasma injection and rest. Either way, he's done for the season. Monday, 3:45 pm

  • Feliz struts his stuff in six-inning gem
Astros RHP prospect Michael Feliz scattered two hits and one run over six innings Sunday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: 55 of his 88 pitches went for strikes. The 22-year-old has gone 5-1 with a 1.44 ERA over his last 10 outings with 52 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings. Feliz made his major league debut with Houston on May 31 but was sent down after just one outing. With rosters expanding on Tuesday, there's a chance Feliz will get another taste of big-league action before the year ends. Monday, 1:16 pm
  • Mat Latos pitches well in return to rotation
Mat Latos held the Cubs to two runs over 4 2/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision.

Advice: Latos was skipped on his last turn through the Dodgers' rotation and pitched pretty well in his return to action Saturday all things considered. The right-hander walked three but struck out five and yielded only four hits. He'll face the Padres on the road next. Saturday, 9:44 pm
  • Wil Myers to begin rehab assignment Tuesday
Wil Myers (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday.

Advice: He's likely headed to High-A Lake Elsinore. Wrist issues have limited Myers to 35 games this year. He could see time at both center field and first base when he returns, which should be sometime after the minor league season ends on September 7. The 24-year-old hasn't played in the big leagues since June 13. Saturday, 3:14 pm

  • Elvis Araujo (groin) placed on DL
Phillies placed LHP Elvis Araujo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.

Advice: Araujo suffered the injury during an appearance Thursday. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Friday, 11:57 am
    60-Day DL
  • Elvis Araujo leaves with strained groin
Elvis Araujo was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the Mets with a strained left groin.

Advice: The left-hander faced just one batter, to whom he issued a walk, before the injury struck. The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but a trip to the disabled list could be in the cards. Thursday, 8:24 pm
    60-Day DL
  • Orioles option Jorge Rondon back to Triple-A
Orioles optioned RHP Jorge Rondon to Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Rondon continues to shuffle back and forth any time the team needs a fresh arm in the bullpen. He'll assuredly be back as depth once rosters expand in September. Thursday, 5:03 pm
  • Russell (groin) goes 0-for-3 with strikeout
Addison Russell (groin) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his return to the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Russell missed a couple of games with tightness in his groin. It obviously wasn't anything major. The 21-year-old didn't show much at the plate in his return Wednesday, but he made some slick plays at shortstop. Thursday, 5:41 am
    W, 14-5 vs ^ Ari
  • Olivera unlikely to arrive before September 1
Hector Olivera is not likely to be called up until rosters expand on September 1.

Advice: There have been rumors for days labeling Olivera's promotion to the majors as imminent, but the Braves aren't quite ready yet to make that move. The 30-year-old Cuban infielder is batting .283/.333/.377 over his first 114 professional plate appearances. His offensive numbers from Cuba are intriguing, but it's not clear how much fantasy value Olivera will be able to provide down the stretch. Wednesday, 2:46 pm
  • Wil Myers (wrist) took batting practice Wed.
Wil Myers (wrist) took batting practice for the first time Wednesday.

Advice: Myers did two sets of 20 swings and reported feeling great. The 24-year-old outfielder has been on the disabled list since June following left wrist surgery and is probably still two weeks away from returning. Myers has appeared in just 35 games this season. Wednesday, 2:11 pm
