• Hoerner (triceps) returns to Cubs lineup Sunday
Nico Hoerner (triceps) is in the Cubs starting lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Advice: Hoerner is finally ready to return after missing nearly two weeks with a right triceps strain. Though he never hit the injured list. He'll be the designated hitter Sunday against the Pirates, batting fifth in the lineup.  NBCSportsEDGE.com 43 minutes ago

  • Ronald Acuña Jr. (back) out again Sunday vs. PHI
Ronald Acuña Jr. (back) is not in the Braves starting lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Advice: Acuña Jr. will miss his fourth consecutive game with back tightness. He is still considered day-to-day at this point and could return to the lineup Monday against the Nationals. Robbie Grossman will get another start in right field.  NBCSportsEDGE.com 48 minutes ago

  • Phillies designate Johan Camargo for assignment
Phillies designated INF Johan Camargo for assignment.

Advice: Camargo was waived to make space for Chris Devenski on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old infielder was hitting just .213/.311/.298 with two homers over 167 plate appearances in Triple-A.  NBCSportsEDGE.com 54 minutes ago

  • Phillies select Chris Devenski from Triple-A
Phillies selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Devenski will take Brad Hand's place on the active roster after Hand was placed on the injured list with elbow tendinitis. The 31-year-old right-hander was signed to a minor league contract late last month after missing the better part of the last two seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery. To make space on the 40-man roster, Johan Camargo was designated for assignment.  NBCSportsEDGE.com 56 minutes ago

  • Brad Hand (elbow) lands on 15-day injured list
Phillies placed LHP Brad Hand on the 15-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis.

Advice: The move is retroactive to September 22. Hand struggled in his last outing, giving up four runs while recording just one out against the Red Sox. The 32-year-old left-hander has been otherwise excellent this season, posting a 2.80 ERA with five saves over 45 innings. Chris Devenski was activated in the corresponding move to take Hand's place in the bullpen.  NBCSportsEDGE.com 58 minutes ago

  • Kershaw solid again in victory over Cardinals
Clayton Kershaw struck out seven over six innings of two-run baseball Saturday to get a win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Kershaw, 34, scattered seven hits with one walk. The only damage on the scoreboard was a two-run homer by Nolan Arenado. Outside of that, it was another strong performance for the future Hall of Famer that saw him improve his record to 10-3 and see his ERA rise only slightly to 2.42. The Dodgers could start messing with the rotation to adjust for the postseason, but he's lined up to face the Rockies in his next outing.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 9:20 pm
  • Montgomery gives up three homers in loss to LAD
Jordan Montgomery gave up six runs in four innings Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Montgomery couldn't keep the ball in the park on Saturday. Or rather, he couldn't keep it in the park enough, anyway, as he allowed three homers to the potent Los Angeles lineup. He allowed seven hits in total, and the southpaw struck out three with just one walk. Montgomery will have a chance to rebound against the lowly Pirates next Saturday.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 9:17 pm
  • Smith's homer helps Dodgers get by Cardinals
Will Smith homered and went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Saturday in a victory over the Cardinals.

Advice: Smith got the party started for the Dodgers with a blast in the first off Jordan Montgomery; one of three homers that Los Angeles would hit off Montgomery. It's been an outstanding season for the 27-year-old backstop, as he's up to 23 homers, 84 RBI and a solid .264/.352/.476 slash with a couple weeks left.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 9:15 pm

  • Vargas hits first MLB homer as Dodgers beat STL
Miguel Vargas hit a two-run homer Saturday in a 6-2 victory for the Dodgers over the Cardinals.

Advice: Congrats to Vargas on his first MLB homer. The 22-year-old connected on the blast off Jordan Montgomery with a runner on. Vargas has mostly struggled to start his MLB career, but his upside competes with most infield prospects in the sport. There are many more bright days ahead. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 9:12 pm
