  • Mariners acquire catcher Seby Zavala from D-backs
    Mariners acquired C Seby Zavala and RHP Carlos Vargas from the Diamondbacks for 3B Eugenio Suárez.

    Advice: Zavala spent most of the last three years backing up Yasmani Grandal with the White Sox, but the Diamondbacks claimed him off waivers in September. He’ll bring a career .210/.275/.347 triple-slash line with him to a third team in Seattle. He’ll most likely be Cal Raleigh’s backup next year. However, it’s possible the team will add competition later. He’s a solid defender and is just one season removed from posting a .729 OPS in 205 plate appearances during the 2022 campaign.     The Mariners acquired Zavala from the Diamondbacks on Wednesday along with Carlos Vargas in exchange for Eugenio Suarez, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

    Advice: Zavala was a waiver claim by the Diamondbacks in September but made just four starts during his three and a half weeks with the team.     Advice: Nightengale has since added that this is part of a bigger deal. The Diamondbacks plucked Zavala off waivers from the White Sox in September, but they apparently weren’t interested in going forward with him as Gabriel Moreno’s backup.
