• Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Drawing fifth straight start
Schneemann will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Schneemann will make his fifth straight start and will occupy his third different position over that span. The utility player has already been used at six different positions since being called up at the beginning of the month and is maintaining a 1.115 OPS over his first 33 big-league plate appearances. • Clobbers three-run homer
Arozarena went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run during Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Twins.

Advice: Arozarena went 32 days between homers, but has now launched two long balls in his last three games. On Tuesday, Arozarena tagged Pablo Lopez for a three-run home run in the first inning, plating Brandon Lowe and Isaac Paredes. The long ball was Arozarena's 10th of the season, but he's still batting .179 with a 25.5-percent strikeout rate. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:25 am
  • Makes impact in return
Smith served as the designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Mets.

Advice: Smith returned to the starting lineup Tuesday after battling a hamstring issue since late last week. He was given a soft re-entry as the DH and could return to his normal duties as the fill-in third baseman for the injured Josh Jung (wrist). The surprisingly productive Smith has been a boon to the Rangers' offense which has missed Jung's bat. Smith is batting .298/.386/.451 with five homers, 16 doubles, one triple, 28 RBI and 34 runs scored over 249 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:09 am

  • Provides offense in win
Espinal started at third base and went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Pittsburgh.

Advice: Espinal provided all the offense needed with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. He was making his first start in seven games and has just 18 at-bats this month; however, he could see action in the immediate future. Jeimer Candelario, who started at first base, was removed from Tuesday's contest due to tendinitis. Candelario has been the team's primary third baseman and may be held out of Wednesday's series finale in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:42 am

  • Fills in Tuesday
Fairchild started in center field and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Fairchild got the start in center field, as TJ Friedl (hamstring) was held out. With a left-hander on the mound for Pittsburgh, there's a chance Fairchild could have started as the DH. Friedl hurt himself during Monday's game when he made a diving catch and was removed from the contest. Reds manager David Bell told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that Friedl could get back in the lineup this weekend. As such, Fairchild could get another start Wednesday before the Reds return home for a weekend series against Boston beginning Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:31 am
  • Active in return
Carroll went 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple, a stolen base and a caught stealing in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Nationals.

Advice: Carroll was removed from Sunday's game with discomfort in his left side, but he was ready to go Tuesday after an MRI came back clean. He led off the game with a walk, stole second base, then trotted in on Ketel Marte's home run. Carroll later tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. The 2023 NL Rookie of the Year's season-opening slump has started to lift; he's 16-for-47 (.340) with four doubles, two triples, nine walks, four steals and 16 runs scored over the last 12 games. • Randy Arozarena homers Tuesday in loss to Twins
Randy Arozarena hit a three-run homer on Tuesday in the Rays’ loss to the Twins.

Advice: Arozarena took Twins ace Pablo López deep with two outs in the opening frame for his 10th big fly of the season. The 29-year-old has started to show some signs of life lately, batting .273 (12-for-44) with two homers over his last 15 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:16 am
  • Josh Smith hits three-run homer against Mets
Josh Smith went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer Tuesday in the loss to the Mets.

Advice: We’re still not really buying into Smith’s terrific start to the season, but there’s little doubt that he’ll remain in the Rangers lineup after Josh Jung returns. He’s batting .298/.386/.451 through 247 at-bats, even though his exit velocity numbers are actually worse than when he hit .185/.304/.328 last season. His strikeout rate is well down, which definitely helps, but he still seems to be overachieving at the moment. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:46 pm
