  • Chris Narveson exits start with blister
Chris Narveson left Monday's start versus the Braves due to a blister on his left middle finger.

Advice: It's too bad, as Narveson was pitching well with 5 1/3 scoreless frames. He'll be re-evaluated later this week before it's determined whether he can make his next start. 56 minutes ago
  • Austin Barnes recalled from Triple-A
Dodgers recalled C Austin Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Kevin Kiermaier exits with mild ankle sprain
Kevin Kiermaier left Monday's game against the Orioles with a mild right ankle sprain.

  • Royals to acquire outfielder Jonny Gomes
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Royals have acquired Jonny Gomes from the Braves.

Advice: CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says the Braves will receive infield prospect Luis Valenzuela in return, with the Braves also sending the Royals some cash. Gomes was in the Braves' lineup Monday but was pulled following the fifth inning after the trade was apparently agreed upon. He's hitting only .221/.325/.364 on the season but entered play Monday with a .271/.375/.458 batting line in the second half. He'll offer the Royals a nice pinch-hitting option versus lefties. Today, 5:44 pm
  • Elvis Araujo (groin) out for the season
Elvis Araujo (groin) is not expected to return this season.

Advice: The Phillies simply don't want to push the young left-hander. "I think [we're exercising] an overabundance of caution," assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. "He's done very well, and he's got a chance to be a piece for us going forward. There's no reason to take any unneeded chances with him." Araujo held a 3.38 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 34 2/3 innings with the Phils this season. Today, 5:16 pm

  • Teams showing interest in Jonny Gomes
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that "a few teams" are showing interest in Jonny Gomes.

Advice: Gomes could be a solid pinch-hitting option against lefties for a contending team down the stretch. He's hitting just .223/.327/.368 overall this season but has a .271/.375/.458 batting line since the All-Star break. Today, 3:51 pm
  • Matt Adams tweaks something in other leg
Matt Adams (quad) recently had a minor setback when he tweaked something in his left leg.

Advice: It was his right quad that he had surgically-repaired. The Cardinals are not viewing it as a big deal and it appears Adams should still have a shot to return in mid-September. He might only be used as a pinch-hitter initially. Today, 3:49 pm

  • Kris Bryant starting in right field Monday
Kris Bryant is starting in right field for the Cubs on Monday.

Advice: It's just his second start in right field this season and fourth start in the outfield period. Tommy La Stella is at third base Monday and Starlin Castro is at second, but Bryant playing more in the outfield could potentially free up an opportunity for Javier Baez, who is expected to be promoted Tuesday. Today, 1:41 pm
  • Carlos Correa (hamstring) returns to lineup
Carlos Correa (hamstring) is back in the Astros' lineup Monday.

Advice: Correa missed four games with a strained left hamstring, but he felt fine while running the bases and doing agility drills Monday. The stud shortstop sports a .278/.347/.510 batting line with 15 homers, 43 RBI and 11 steals over 68 games. Today, 1:25 pm
  • Foltynewicz scratched Monday; Miller starting
Michael Foltynewicz has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday due to fever and viral symptoms.

Advice: Shelby Miller is going to take the mound instead against the Marlins. He'll be pitching on regular rest because of Thursday's team off day. Foltynewicz, who owns a rough 5.71 ERA in 86 2/3 innings this year, should be ready to rejoin the rotation later in the week. Today, 12:36 pm
  • Hanley (shoulder) out again Monday vs. Yanks
Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is out of the Red Sox lineup again on Monday night against the Yankees.

Advice: Ramirez missed Boston's entire weekend series against the Mets with fatigue in his right shoulder. He's been bothered by several injuries throughout 2015 but has yet to spend a day on the disabled list. It's been a source of frustration for fantasy owners, and it's not clear how long this current absence is going to last. Today, 12:19 pm
  • Baez contributes four hits in Sunday's win
Cubs SS prospect Javier Baez extended his hitting streak to 16 games Sunday with four knocks for Triple-A Iowa.

Baez sports a tidy .391 on base percentage in 328 plate appearances this year with 18 steals on 21 attempts. The former first-round pick should join the Cubs when rosters expand on Tuesday. • Bryant's two-run homer powers Cubs to victory
Kris Bryant blasted a two-run homer off Alex Wood in the first inning on Sunday, powering the Cubs to a 2-0 victory over the Dodgers.

Advice: That proved to be more than enough offense to back an absolute gem spun by Jake Arrieta. Bryant finished the night 1-for-4 and is now slashing .260/.362/.477 with 21 homers and 79 RBI in his impressive rookie campaign. Yesterday, 7:52 pm
  • Kiermaier's homer the deciding factor vs. KC

He's put together a decent season, batting .261/.295/.420 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, 50 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. He also leads the majors with 12 triples. Yesterday, 1:29 pm
  • Carlos Correa (hamstring) to run bases Monday
Carlos Correa (hamstring) will run the bases and do agility drills on Monday.

Advice: Correa has sat out the last four games with a left hamstring strain, but he's feeling better and should be back in the lineup soon. "We’ll give (Correa) another day to get treatment," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "May or not use him as a pinch hitter, but I’m happy with what he’s doing," Yesterday, 10:07 am
  • Correa (hamstring) remains out of lineup
Carlos Correa (hamstring) remained out of the Astros' lineup Sunday.

  • Kiermaier cranks two-run homer
Kevin Kiermaier went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a steal in Saturday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: Kiermaier smacked a two-run homer off of Royals starter Kris Medlen in the fourth inning, his sixth homer of the season. He also recorded steal No. 16 in the contest. While he's hit well in April, June and August, his overall batting line is a pedestrian .261/.294/.413. Saturday, 6:40 pm
  • Brandon Crawford (oblique) aiming for Monday
Brandon Crawford (oblique) is aiming to return to the Giants' starting lineup on Monday.

Advice: Crawford sat out again on Saturday, but he was able to take pregame batting practice on the field without issue. Crawford has been out since Tuesday due to tightness in his left oblique, with Ehire Adrianza filling in at shortstop against the Cubs and Cardinals. Saturday, 6:04 pm
  • Baez in Cubs' first wave of September callups
According to Patrick Mooney of, infield prospect Javier Baez is expected to be in the Cubs' first wave of September callups.

Advice: And it seems very possible that he could position himself for regular starts at second base. Starlin Castro and Tommy La Stella have been playing there with Addison Russell recently taking over at shortstop. Baez, 22, is batting .316/.380/.530 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI, and 17 stolen bases in 67 games this season at the Triple-A level. He'll be worth trying out in most mixed fantasy leagues. • Hanley Ramirez remains out of Red Sox lineup
Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) remains out of the Red Sox starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Ramirez was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to fatigue in his left shoulder. Alejandro De Aza will start in his place in left field and bat eighth for the Red Sox against Jacob deGrom and the Mets on Saturday. Saturday, 9:32 am
  • Kris Bryant fans four times
Kris Bryant fanned all four times he was up Friday against the Dodgers.

Advice: If you're going to have a four-strikeout game, at least have it against Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen. Bryant lost his seven-game hitting streak, but he's still batting .262. He opened August at .246. Friday, 10:29 pm
  • Brandon Crawford remains out of Giants lineup
Brandon Crawford (oblique) remains out of the Giants starting lineup on Friday.

Advice: Crawford is dealing with a tight left oblique and is expected to need another day or two before he's ready to return. Ehire Adrianza is once again starting in his place at shortstop and batting eighth for the Giants. Friday, 4:47 pm
  • Hanley Ramirez battling shoulder fatigue
Hanley Ramirez was scratched from the Red Sox' lineup Friday due to right shoulder fatigue.

  • Carlos Correa sitting out with sore hamstring
Carlos Correa is missing a second straight start Friday due to what he describes as "just a little soreness" in his left hamstring.

Advice: He'll have three days off when you add in Thursday's off day. It doesn't sound like a major concern, as Correa should have a shot to return to action by the end of the weekend. Marwin Gonzalez is again getting the call at shortstop Friday. Friday, 2:07 pm
  • Hanley Ramirez scratched from lineup Friday
Hanley Ramirez was scratched from the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Advice: It's unclear what the reasoning is for the scratch, but Ramirez has had a foot issue recently. The Red Sox should have more on his status shortstop. Jackie Bradley took his spot in left field. Friday, 1:58 pm
  • Carlos Correa not in Friday's lineup
Carlos Correa is not in the Astros' lineup Friday.

Advice: Correa also sat on Wednesday before Thursday's off day, so he might be dealing with some sort of physical issue. Marwin Gonzalez is again getting the call at shortstop. Friday, 1:47 pm
  • Elvis Araujo (groin) placed on DL
Phillies placed LHP Elvis Araujo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.

  • Matt Adams (quad) not ready for rehab games
Matt Adams (quad) is not ready to begin a rehab assignment yet.

Advice: Cardinals manager Mike Matheny previously indicated that Adams could return by "September 1st-ish," but obviously that's not going to happen. The first baseman continues to work out at the club's spring training facility and should be activated in a couple weeks if all goes well. "Apparently, I said a hard-line Sept. 1, which I don’t remember," he said. "If that doesn’t happen, then people are going to be all up in arms." Friday, 9:27 am

  • Brandon Crawford (oblique) out again Thurs.
Brandon Crawford (oblique) is out of the Giants' starting lineup again on Thursday.

  • Bryant drives home both Cub runs with single
Kris Bryant went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and a double in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: Bryant and fellow young human Kyle Schwarber picked up four of the team's five hits, with the third-baseman driving in both Cub runs with a two-run single in the first. That turned out to be the offensive highlight of the game for the Cubbies, as they wouldn't score again. This was just their sixth loss in their last 21 road games. Bryant's certainly done his part to help fuel a possible playoff run, hitting .265/.368/.482 with 20 home runs, 77 RBI and 12 steals over 423 at-bats. Wednesday, 10:17 pm
  • Narveson hit hard by the Pirates in a loss
Chris Narveson was hit hard in a losing effort against the Pirates on Wednesday, serving up seven runs across 3 2/3 innings.

Advice: The Pirates exploded for seven runs in the second inning, capped off by Andrew McCutchen's three-run home run which made it 7-1. Narveson, overall, allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out three. It was his first start since April 15, 2012. The Marlins haven't announced if he'll get another start, but if he does, he's on track to face the Braves in Atlanta. Wednesday, 7:03 pm
  • Crawford (oblique) hoping to return shortly
Brandon Crawford (oblique) said he hopes to be back in the lineup in a couple days.

Advice: Crawford sat out Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's game early with what he called mild left oblique tightness. It seems likely at this point that Crawford will avoid a disabled list trip. Wednesday, 4:48 pm
  • Crawford (oblique) not in Giants lineup Wed.
Brandon Crawford (oblique) is not in the Giants' lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Advice: Crawford left Tuesday's game with tightness in his left side and lower back, but the Giants remained hopeful it wasn't a debilitating injury. It remains to be seen how long the shortstop might be sidelined. Ehire Adrianza got the start at shortstop in Crawford's absence Wednesday. Wednesday, 3:21 pm
  • Carlos Correa getting a breather Wednesday
Carlos Correa is not in the Astros' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: It's a simple day off. The red-hot Marwin Gonzalez is filling in for Correa at shortstop. Wednesday, 7:55 am
  • Crawford leaves with tight side/lower back
Brandon Crawford left Tuesday's game versus the Cubs with tightness in his left side and lower back.

Advice: The automatic fear is that Crawford might have done something to his oblique, but Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says that the injury "wasn’t believed to be disabling." Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that he hopes Crawford can play Wednesday, but you'd have to think there's a good chance he'll have to miss at least a game or two. Wednesday, 5:40 am
  • Kiermaier nabs three hits, two steals vs. MIN
Kevin Kiermaier went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and an RBI in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Kiermaier had an RBI single in the third inning, one of three singles on the night. The 25-year-old has oscillated between good and bad months, batting .306 in April, .173 in May, .314 in June, .200 in July and now .310 this month through Tuesday's game. Kiermaier is hitting .255/.288/.400 with 47 runs scored, 28 RBI and 15 steals on the year. Tuesday, 8:37 pm
  • Foltynewicz hurt by Braves' defense in a loss
Michael Foltynewicz allowed four runs (all unearned) in five innings, resulting in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday.

Advice: Adonis Garcia made a fielding error in the first inning which helped the Rockies score twice. Garcia committed another error to allow Nick Hundley to reach to lead off the fourth, and the Rockies would go on to score twice more. It wasn't a bad effort by Foltynewicz, as he limited the opposition to five hits and a walk while striking out three. The inconsistent right-hander has a 5.71 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP, and a 77/29 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings. He'll hope for better defense when he hosts the Marlins in his next start. Tuesday, 7:59 pm
  • Hanley confirms he's moving to 1B next year
Hanley Ramirez acknowledged to reporters Tuesday that he is moving to first base next year.

Advice: The first directive from new Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski, perhaps? Hanley was spotted taking grounders and making throws on Tuesday afternoon in Chicago and said after the workout that he could begin seeing starts at first base down the stretch this season. "I'm looking forward to it," said Hanley, who has been a disaster in left field. Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Rusney Castillo make up the outfield of the future in Boston. Tuesday, 2:49 pm
  • Hanley Ramirez taking grounders at first base
Hanley Ramirez took grounders and made throws at first base on Tuesday afternoon.

Advice: Hanley has been a huge disappointment defensively in his first year as an everyday outfielder. An eventual move to first base makes sense for the former shortstop with Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Rusney Castillo lined up as Boston's outfield of the future. Ramirez is under contract with the Red Sox through 2018. Tuesday, 1:29 pm
  • Gomes homers, knocks in 3 to beat the Rockies
Jonny Gomes went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run home run to help the Braves beat the Rockies on Monday.

Advice: Gomes gave the Braves a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run blast off of Jorge De La Rosa. He'd add an RBI single in the fifth to extend the Braves' lead to 4-2. It was Gomes' first start since August 15. The veteran has had his moments, but has largely been unimpressive, batting .214/.320/.348 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 219 plate appearances. Monday, 7:08 pm
  • Matt Adams (quad) could return by Sept. 1
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Monday that he expects Matt Adams (quad) back "September 1st-ish."

Advice: Adams is working out at the club's spring training facility and could begin a rehab assignment with High-A Palm Beach as soon as Tuesday. It sounds like the Cards expect him to need only about a week's worth of rehab games before he's activated. The big first baseman has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from surgery in late May to repair a Grade 3 quad strain. Aug 24, 6:01 pm

  • Kris Bryant wins it for Cubs with walk-off HR
Kris Bryant sent Cubs fans home happy Monday, belting a walk-off, solo home run in the ninth inning versus the Indians.

Advice: Carlos Santana knotted things up 1-1 in the top of the ninth with a two-out RBI single, but Bryant had some two-out magic in store, as well, hitting a towering opposite field shot off Zach McAllister into the Wrigley Field bleachers. The longball gives Bryant an even 20 for the season to go along with 75 RBI and a .262/.366/.481 batting line. The Cubbies have won 20 of their last 24 games. Aug 24, 2:13 pm
  • Cubs not considering Baez promotion yet
Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Monday that there are no immediate plans to promote Javier Baez.

Advice: Jorge Soler's oblique injury has opened some playing time at second base because Chris Coghlan will have to move back to the outfield, but Baez isn't being considered as an option yet. That could change when rosters expand on September 1. Baez, 22, is batting .304/.372/.518 with 12 home runs, 55 RBI, and 15 stolen bases in 62 games this season at the Triple-A level. Aug 24, 9:36 am

  • Bryant socks pair of home runs vs Braves
Kris Bryant homered twice, finishing with three RBI and four runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Braves.

Advice: Bryant hit two of the club's five home runs, launching a two-run shot off Braves starter Matt Wisler in the first inning and a solo shot off reliever David Aardsma in the sixth. The NL Rookie of the Year candidate is hitting .262/.367/.476 with 19 home runs, 74 RBI and 12 steals through 412 at-bats. Sunday's multi-homer effort was Bryant's third of the season. • Matt Adams (quad) nears rehab assignment
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said on Sunday that Matt Adams (quad) could begin a rehab assignment with High-A Palm Beach as soon as Tuesday.

Advice: Adams has been at the club's spring training complex the last few days going through a variety of drills and has evidently responded well to them. • Ramirez doubles in loss to Royals
Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a double in Saturday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: The double was just Ramirez's 11th of the season. He's been one of the worst regular starters since the middle of July, hitting just .191/.214/.234 in 98 post-All-Star at-bats. To be fair, he is dealing with a foot injury this month, but the numbers he's posted for the season (.254/.294/.433 with 19 homers, 53 RBI and six steals) simply haven't been what the Red Sox paid for in the off-season.
