      Castillo allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three over five innings Sunday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: The Twins struck early with a run in the first on two base hits. Castillo went on to retire 11 of the next 12 batters he faced but then ran into more trouble in the fifth, allowing a double and two more singles, which led to another pair of runs for the Twins. He was able to work his way through the inning, but his day would end there at 77 pitches. Castillo managed to not give up any free passes for the first time since May 12, though he's also failed to complete six innings in four of his last five starts. He still holds a respectable 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB in 104.2 innings and projects to take the mound again to kick off a weekend series with Toronto. Rotowire.com Today, 2:48 am

      Chapman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total RBI in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Dodgers.

      Advice: Chapman's been hot to close out June, going 13-for-37 (.351) with three homers, nine RBI and 11 runs scored over his last 10 contests. He hit just .190 over his first 15 games this month. The third baseman is at a .242/.323/.414 slash line with 11 homers, 39 RBI, 55 runs scored and a career-high seven stolen bases through 82 games this year.     • Luis Castillo grabs a bat Sunday against Twins
      Luis Castillo struck out three and allowed three runs over five innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Twins.

      Advice: What a mess. Castillo was forced to grab a bat, and struck out looking in the fourth inning, after Seattle lost the designated hitter earlier in the contest when Mitch Haniger left the game following a hit by pitch. The 31-year-old righty was simply outdueled by Twins starter Joe Ryan, who limited the Mariners to just a pair of runs into the sixth inning before the bullpen took over and pretty much shut things down completely from there on out. He’ll bring a respectable 3.87 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 103/30 K/BB ratio across 104 2/3 innings (18 starts) into a home outing on Friday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:31 pm
       
    • Allows seven runs in loss
      Gausman (6-7) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on seven hits, five walks and a hit batsman against the Yankees. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Gausman needed 107 pitches to record 13 outs, allowing season highs in runs (seven) and walks (five) while being tagged for three extra-base hits including a first-inning Aaron Judge two-run blast. Gausman did strike out seven batters to represent the fourth time this season he's reached at least seven in an outing, but that's nothing more than a minor silver lining around Sunday's ugly performance. It's the fifth time this season Gausman has allowed at least five runs in a start, and he closes the month of June with a 5.64 ERA over 36.2 innings spanning six starts.     • Rounding into form
      Cole (1-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on three hits, a walk and two hit batsmen over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.

      Advice: Cole continues to struggle with his command as he rounds into form following a two-plus month stint on the IL with a nerve irritation in his elbow, but Sunday's performance represented a major step in the right direction. After walking four and allowing four homers in his previous start, Cole allowed a single run in the third, then struck out three of the last six batters he faced as he sent the Blue Jays down in order in the fourth and fifth innings to close out his day. The five innings pitched, 90 pitches thrown, one run allowed and six strikeouts each represented a season-best total for Cole, who continues to inch his way back toward his normal workload.     • Gerrit Cole wins, rights ship against Blue Jays
      Gerrit Cole scattered three hits and a walk across five innings on Sunday in an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed one run and struck out six.

      Advice: This was the first time this season Cole looked like himself. His fastball velocity was much more consistent than it had been in either of his first two starts and he showed no hesitation in challenging the Blue Jays hitters with it. He also showed better command of his secondaries and the Yankees let him work all the way up to 90 pitches. While not perfect, this was the kind of start we needed to see from Cole.     • Kevin Gausman loses, struggles again
      Kevin Gausman allowed seven runs in just 4 1/3 innings on Sunday against the Yankees. He walked five and struck out seven in a loss.

      Advice: Gausman just hasn’t been right all year. Aaron Judge crushed a first-inning fastball that wasn’t up-and-in enough and the Yankees kept traffic on the bases seemingly every inning. His tried and true game plan of fastballs and splitters does not have the same potency it used to as his fastball velocity has dipped and hitters don’t chase or whiff on that splitter like they once did.     • On cusp of rehab assignment
      Baez (back) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Joe Reedy of the Associated Press reports.

      Advice: Manager A.J. Hinch had previously said June 25 that Baez wasn't on track to return from the 10-day injured list before the Tigers' ongoing road trip concludes July 7, but the veteran shortstop looks like he could be an option to play during the final week before the All-Star break. The Tigers will likely wait and see how Baez responds to at least a few rehab games with Toledo this week before determining his next steps.       Advice: Chapman doubled in his first at-bat before then getting caught trying to steal second. He then drove home Heliot Ramos with an infield single in the following frame before eventually going on to reach a total of four times in the contest. It marked Chapman's fourth three-hit performance this season and his first since May 18 against the Rockies.
