    • Dillon Gee was slapped with a loss despite pitching a gem Monday, allowing two runs over 8 1/3 innings to the Braves.
Advice: He struck out six and walked one. Gee was absolutely cruising through eight innings and entered the ninth in Atlanta with a 1-0 lead. He surrendered a leadoff single to Justin Upton and Jason Heyward ended the game with a 365-foot blast to right field. Gee revealed after his last start that he's dealt with flexor tendonitis all season, but he appeared just fine on Monday. He's 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA.

    • Dillon Gee revealed after Wednesday's start that he's dealt with flexor tendonitis all season.
Advice: It could certainly explain why he's been terrible most of the year. Gee said the condition has flared up lately and he might not have been able to start Wednesday if not for the team's recent rainouts. He boasts a 1.29 ERA and 26/3 K/BB ratio over his last three starts and figures to keep his rotation spot over Jeremy Hefner once Zack Wheeler arrives, assuming he's OK physically. The Mets are also toying with the idea of using six starters for a while.

    • Josh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI against the Mariners on Monday.
Advice: Coming off a Sunday off-day against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia, Hamilton teed off in an easier matchup, taking Aaron Harang deep for a two-run shot in the second. Hamilton owners, much like the Angels, are stuck in a holding pattern with the former top slugger. Nobody is going to take his .217/.273/.395 slash line off your hands and offer you value back, but it's unlikely that you have a more talented backup to insert into the lineup until Hamilton regains his stroke.

    • Dayan Viciedo tripled with the bases loaded in the sixth to lead the White Sox to a 4-2 win over the Astros on Monday.
Advice: Viciedo saved the White Sox from what might have been a four-game sweep in Houston. The Astros got all of their runs in the sixth off Bud Norris. The triple was Viciedeo's third in 261 major league games, and it gave him his first multi-RBI game since May 15. That was also the day on which he last homered.

    • Jacob Turner allowed two runs on six hits over five innings Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Advice: He struck out five and walked three. The former first-round pick has only allowed six earned runs in four starts, posting a 2.16 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 25 innings. Turner has only one win to show for his efforts, however, an unfortunate occupational hazard of pitching in South Florida.

    • Nelson Cruz homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Rangers beat the A's 8-7 on Monday.
Advice: Cruz homered off Dan Straily in the fourth and Jesse Chavez in the fifth, giving him 18 bombs for the year. Only Chris Davis (24) and Miguel Cabrera (19) have more in the AL. If Cruz stays healthy, his career high of 33 homers is probably going down.

    • Jason Vargas whiffed a season-best nine batters and surrendered a mere two runs over seven innings in Monday's 11-3 win against the Mariners.
Advice: Vargas allowed four hits and a walk to his former club. Monday's strikeouts are clearly a bonus for owners -- Vargas has struck out about six batters per nine innings this year -- but Vargas has established himself as a rotation stalwart in his first season in LA. He's now 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA.

    • Rich Hill allowed a bunt single to David Lough on Monday.
Advice: Hill relieved Brian Shaw in a 1-1 game in the ninth inning with runners on first and second. After Lough reached, Matt Albers replaced Hill and threw a wild to gift Kansas City with a 2-1 lead. Hill, a non-roster invitee who made the club out of spring training, may be reaching the end of his rope as Cleveland's left-handed specialist. He has a 7.79 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings over 26 appearances.

    • Albert Pujols went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 11-3 victory against the Mariners.
Advice: While his big night must be qualified -- Aaron Harang was on the mound, after all -- Pujols' heat check must be recognized. El Hombre is 12-for-23 (.522) over his last five games. He's batting .333 with an OPS over .900 in June after struggling mightily over the first two months of the season. If you can buy low, now's the time to do it.

    • Albert Pujols went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer to help the Angels best the Orioles 9-5 on Wednesday.
Advice: The two-run homer capped the Angels' six-run seventh innings that turned a 4-2 deficit into an 8-4 lead. Pujols has three homers in his last eight games, and today's three-hit game was his fifth of the year.

    • Patrick Corbin hurled eight innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Marlins on Monday.
Advice: He gave up just two hits, striking out seven and walking one. Corbin was outstanding outside of a two-run mistake Giancarlo Stanton deposited into the left-field seats in the seventh. Corbin remains a perfect 9-0, to go with an outstanding 2.28 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, but Monday marked the first time Arizona has lost one of his starts. The Snakes are now 13-1 with Corbin on the mound in 2013.

    • Patrick Corbin was removed after allowing four runs in five innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Corbin was in line for his first loss when he exited, but the Diamondbacks rallied and ended up winning in 12. It's the second straight outing in which he's left with the Diamondbacks in a hole. However, Arizona remains a perfect 13-0 with him on the mound.

    • Giancarlo Stanton swatted a pair of home runs and collected all of Miami's RBI in Monday's 3-2 victory against Arizona.
Advice: Stanton's two-run job off Patrick Corbin in the seventh tied the game at two and his homer off Heath Bell in the ninth turned out to be the decisive run. Stanton has hit safely in all seven games since coming off the disabled list and has collected two or more RBI in four of those contests. He's one of the hottest hitters in the game right now.

    • Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in Friday's win over the Cardinals.
Advice: That's what we like to see. Stanton is now 6-for-18 (.333) with one home run, two doubles and five RBI in four games since coming off the disabled list. Fantasy owners are hopeful that he's ready to make up for lost time.

    • Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a ninth inning solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in a tie game Monday.
Advice: Entering a 2-2 contest in the top of the ninth, Bell struck out Ed Lucas before Stanton homered to right. Bell (4.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) has allowed a home run in three consecutive appearances. Consider it a course-correction after he enjoyed some good luck earlier this season. With J.J. Putz (elbow) close to returning, the clock on Bell's reign as closer may be ticking.

  • Thu, Jun 13
    • Heath Bell gave up his second homer in two days Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Bell was working with a four-run lead, so the fact that he allowed a solo homer and another run didn't cost the Diamondbacks. Still, it's a bit of a concern that he's suddenly allowed homers to Juan Uribe and Ramon Hernandez the last two days. He had gone 25 straight appearances without giving up a homer after allowing two in his season debut April 2.

    • Nick Tepesch lasted just 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs to the A's in a loss Monday.
Advice: Tepesch's time in the rotation may soon come to an end. He's given up 17 runs over 15 2/3 innings in his last three starts, and he hasn't picked up a win since beating Houston on May 12. The Rangers might give him one more chance, but if he doesn't improve, he could be replaced by Martin Perez.

    • Nick Tepesch allowed five runs in five innings in taking the loss against the Indians on Wednesday.
Advice: Tepesch served up eight hits, including two home runs, and a walk in his five innings. He hasn't picked up a win in a month, and the loss dropped him to 3-6 on the year. He'll start again Monday against the Athletics.

    • Brandon Barnes went 3-for-5 with a couple of steals against the White Sox on Monday.
Advice: Justin Maxwell is expected back in Houston's lineup on Tuesday, but Barnes should remain the team's center fielder, with Maxwell primarily playing right. That doesn't give him much fantasy value -- he's been struggling offensively since his nice April -- but he's an acceptable fifth outfielder in AL-only leagues.

    • Aaron Harang was tagged for four runs on 12 hits in five innings by the Angels in a loss Monday.
Advice: He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. Harang actually has an outstanding 56/9 K/BB rate and a solid 1.31 WHIP. That's the good news for Seattle management and AL-only owners still holding out hope he'll turn it around. To the naked eye, however, Harang just doesn't have the stuff to get out major league hitters anymore. It's great to eliminate free passes, but it doesn't do much good if the slop you loft over the plate is obliterated all over the park. Harang (3-7) and his 5.73 ERA aren't to be trusted in any format.

    • Aaron Harang pitched his second shutout of the year Tuesday, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 against the Astros.
Advice: J.D. Martinez had Houston's only two hits. Harang also shut out San Diego last month, throwing a four-hitter then. Incredibly, he's 1-6 with an 8.35 ERA in his other eight starts this year.

    • Dan Straily was tagged for six runs and two homers in 4 2/3 innings by the Rangers on Monday.
Advice: Straily had turned in a nice run of outings coming into this one -- he went six straight starts without allowing a homer -- so an odd night in Arlington isn't such a bad sign. He'll have a friendlier matchup in Seattle next time out.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Thu, Jun 13
    • Dan Straily yielded two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Yankees on Wednesday.
Advice: The A's improved to 8-2 with Straily on the mound this year, though Straily has gotten credit for just half of those victories. He's now gone six straight starts without allowing a homer, which qualifies as a big surprise from a guy who allowed 11 bombs in 39 1/3 innings last year. He will start serving up homers again, but he should remain a quality AL-only starter and a decent option as a spot starter in shallow mixed leagues.

    • Despite giving up a homer for a second straight outing, Edward Mujica picked up his 20th save in 20 chances Monday in the Cardinals' 5-2 defeat of the Cubs.
Advice: Mujica gave up a homer to Marlon Byrd on Thursday and another to Darwin Barney tonight, but he's yet to allow one in a one-run game. All four homers he's given up this year have been solo shots. It helps a lot that he hasn't walked a batter since April 3.

    • Lucas Duda will start at first base for the first time this season in Monday's game against the Braves.
Advice: Meanwhile, Daniel Murphy has moved back over to second base while Jordany Valdespin is on the bench. Mets manager Terry Collins has resisted using Duda at first base because they anticipate Ike Davis returning at some point, but there's no question that they are a much better defensive team with Duda at first base as opposed to left field.

    • Lucas Duda homered and tallied two RBI Wednesday in the Mets' defeat of the visiting Cardinals.
Advice: Duda laced an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the first inning and added a solo shot to deep right-center in the bottom of the fourth. The outfielder was plagued by some quad issues earlier this month but seems to be over them now. The home run was his 11th.

    • After the Royals scored a run on a wild pitch in the top of the frame, Greg Holland pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for the save as the Royals edged the Indians 2-1 on Monday.
Advice: The Royals only play 2-1 or 3-2 games, so Holland is racking up the save chances of late. He has eight saves and a win in the last 19 days after going the previous four weeks without any saves.

Advice: Holland gave up a solo home run to Jose Lobaton and a walk to Matt Joyce but he struck out the other three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth. Holland has an excellent 2.16 ERA and 40/11 K/BB ratio in 25 innings this year. Kansas City has won 10 of its last 12 games.

Advice: He'll make the start in place of Jason Hammel, who is just getting his strength back following a stomach bug. Britton made one start for the Orioles this season and owns a 3.28 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A Norfolk. He's a shaky option in mixed leagues against the Tigers.

    • Ryan Howard went 3-for-3 and hit his eighth homer in the Phillies' 5-4 victory over the Nationals on Monday.
Advice: Howard didn't get to play hero in the ninth, though; manager Charlie Manuel took him out for a pinch-runner in the eighth. With two runners on, Steve Lerud went on to strike out in Howard's place in the ninth. However, Domonic Brown followed that with a game-winning single. Howard has seven hits in his last three games, and he's batting .346 in 52 at-bats for the month.
