    • Keaton Winn allows five runs in no-decision
Keaton Winn was blasted for five runs over 2 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Winn took the ball for Thursday’s contest at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and was unable to escape the third inning. He gave up five hits, including a two-run homer to Brendan Donovan in the opening frame. He’ll aim for better results his next time out on Wednesday against the Cubs. Rotoworld Today, 7:53 pm

    • Shane Baz strikes out six on Thursday at Triple-A
Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames. He gave up four hits and also issued three walks. The 25-year-old top pitching prospect has recorded 24 strikeouts over his last three starts since June 8. It’s time. Rotoworld Today, 7:44 pm
    • Elects free agency
Tinoco elected free agency after being outrighted by the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Tinoco had his contract selected May 23 but allowed nine earned runs across 10 innings and was designated for assignment Sunday. He was more effective with the Rangers in 2023, so he may be able to find a role with another club relatively quickly. Rotowire.com Today, 7:33 pm
    • Allows two runs in no-decision
Littell did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out five.

Advice: Thursday represented a return to form for Littell, who held the Twins to single runs in each of the second and third innings prior to leaving after five innings having tossed 95 pitches. Littell had posted a 7.71 ERA and 2.07 WHIP with four homers allowed across three starts and 14 innings during the month of June, including allowing a season-worst six earned runs in just two innings during his previous start. Although he was touched up for a homer for the seventh-consecutive outing, it was also the first time in five starts he didn't allow at least three earned runs. He'll continue to work on righting the ship during his next start, scheduled to come at home next week when the Mariners make their way to the Trop. Rotowire.com Today, 7:28 pm

    • Yankees option Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A
Yankees optioned RHP Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: No surprise here as the Yankees are going to bring up some extra relief depth ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Braves after getting battered for 17 runs during Thursday’s series finale against the division-rival Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 6:32 pm

    • Back to minors
Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: The Yankees' bullpen was forced to cover 6.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Orioles and will need at least one fresh arm for their weekend series against Atlanta. Marinaccio will head back to the minors as a result, though he also surrendered four earned runs across 6.1 innings in his latest stint in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 pm

    • Collects 22nd save
Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning Thursday, striking out one to earn the save against Seattle.

Advice: Clase had allowed earned runs in consecutive appearances on June 9 and 11 but has regained his form since, tossing his third consecutive clean outing to close out the game for the Guardians. Clase ranks first in the American League with 22 saves, ranking behind only Ryan Helsley of the Cardinals who has 24 to lead the major leagues. Through 35.1 innings this season, Clase has allowed only three earned runs for an ERA of 0.76 with a 0.62 WHIP and 36 strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 6:16 pm
    • Allows five earned runs in loss
Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead but with two outs, a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start on June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, having allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts. He'll look to put things back together during his next start, scheduled to take place next week when the Mariners travel to Tampa to take on the Rays. Rotowire.com Today, 6:08 pm

    • Struggles in no-decision
Irvin did not factor into the decision in a win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out two.

Advice: Irvin had a hard time with the Yankees' lineup for much of the afternoon, allowing runs in three of the five innings in which he appeared before being relieved by Bryan Baker. The lefty surrendered two home runs in the contest, something he hadn't done in any of his previous starts coming in, while also matching his season high with five runs allowed. Irvin had gone at least five innings in four consecutive starts prior to Thursday's game and will look to bounce back next week when the Orioles take on the Guardians in Baltimore.
