    • Homers twice Thursday
Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three total RBI in Thursday's 7-6 win over Kansas City.

Advice: Jeffers got Minnesota on the board with a two-run blast off Daniel Lynch in the fourth inning, cutting the Royals' lead to 4-2, before adding a solo shot in the fifth. The 26-year-old Jeffers is up to 12 homers on the year, just two shy of his career high, though he'd cooled off at the plate following a red-hot start to the year -- he'd gone 13 games without a long ball, going just 5-for-42 (.119) in that span. Overall, Jeffers is slashing .254/.342/.544 through 196 plate appearances with 36 RBI, 25 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Rotowire.com Thursday, 3:58 pm

    • Placed on injured list
The Yankees placed Schmidt on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Schmidt gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings during Sunday's loss to the Padres, and he appears to have injured his lat in the process. His move to the IL is backdated to Monday, so the 28-year-old right-hander will be able to return beginning June 11. In the meantime, Cody Morris will come up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the opening on New York's roster. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:15 pm

    • Clarke Schmidt lands on IL with right lat strain
Yankees placed RHP Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with a right lat strain.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Schmidt will be shut down from throwing for the next 4-6 weeks, which likely knocks him out until sometime after the All-Star break. Schmidt was slated to take the ball on Saturday against the Giants, so New York will have to dip into their organizational depth to fill the void. The 28-year-old righty will press pause on an impressive breakthrough campaign as he’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his 11 starts this season, recording a stellar 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67/20 K/BB ratio across 60 2/3 innings of work. It’s a significant loss for the Yankees, and fantasy managers as well. There should be a clearer timetable for his return once he’s cleared to resume throwing in a few weeks. • Jeffers has two-homer game against Royals Thursday
Ryan Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Jeffers continues to carry the Twins offense. The two-homer game puts him at 12 on the season now. Jeffers is hitting .254 with an .886 OPS on the year. As far as second catchers go, it doesn’t get much better than what he’s provided so far this season.

    • Aiming to return Tuesday
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Lowe (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham this weekend and hopes to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday versus the Marlins, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Last week, Lowe made his second trip to the IL this season with a right oblique strain. The strain was deemed mild, allowing him to resume baseball activities ahead of this weekend's rehab assignment. If Lowe does indeed return Tuesday, he will have missed just a little more than the minimum 10 days. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:23 am

    • Josh Lowe could return to Rays lineup on Tuesday
Josh Lowe (oblique) will play for Triple-A Durham this weekend as he nears a return.

Advice: The plan is for Lowe to play all weekend with Durham and, if all feels good, he could return to the Tampa Bay lineup on Tuesday against the Marlins. Lowe has now had three setbacks this season with his oblique, but the last imaging he had showed no major issues and both he and the Rays have expressed optimism that he will return next week. • Brady Singer scratched on Thursday with illness
Royals scratched Brady Singer from Thursday’s start due to illness.

Advice: It doesn’t seem like anything concerning for Singer long term, but he will miss today’s start against the Twins and may not pitch again until his next turn in the rotation. Daniel Lynch IV was called up from Triple-A Omaha to start in Singer’s place. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:51 am

    • Scratched from start due to illness
Singer has been scratched from Thursday's scheduled start against the Twins due to illness.

Advice: Daniel Lynch was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and will start Thursday in Singer's place. It's possible Singer will be ready to make a start in the coming days, though it will depend on how he bounces back from the illness. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. • Allows one run in no-decision
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.

Advice: Verlander got off to a great start, hurling 1-2-3 innings in three of the first four frames before surrendering a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the fifth. The veteran right-hander would only allow a walk from that point on and managed to go seven innings for the third time in his last six starts. Verlander also matched his season high with nine strikeouts, which he also recorded in his previous start against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:12 am
