  • Reid Detmers strikes out 11 in Triple-A start
    Reid Detmers allowed three runs on four hits in six innings while striking out 11 for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

    Advice: Detmers now has 21 strikeouts in his last two games, which is the good news. The bad news is that he has allowed eight runs in 12 innings over those two starts. The swing-and-miss is nice to see, but Detmers will undoubtedly need to do more to incentivize the Angels to call him back up. Rotoworld Today, 11:39 am
     
  • Fans 11 in minor-league start
    Detmers tossed six innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 11 batters.

    Advice: Detmers was optioned to Triple-A on June 1 after a series of poor starts with the Angels. His first minor-league outing since 2022 didn't go well, as he gave up seven runs over five frames in a June 7 start versus Sugar Land. The southpaw has improved since, and over his past two outings with Salt Lake he's struck out 21 hitters across 12 frames, though he's also surrendered eight earned runs over that stretch. Overall, Detmers has logged a 5.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB across 30 frames through five starts in the minors. Angels pitching coach Barry Enright said last week that Detmers was "trending in the right direction" in terms of improvement when addressing how the club will fill the rotation spot of Patrick Sandoval, who has since been ruled out for the season after undergoing an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his pitching elbow. That said, it's unclear what the team's plans are for Detmers moving forward. The Angels rotation has had a lot of moving parts of late -- in addition to Sandoval's injury, Zach Plesac was demoted to Triple-A on Saturday, Jose Soriano (abdomen) is slated to return from the injured list Tuesday, and Davis Daniel was promoted from the minors to make his first start of the season last Thursday. In addition, Roansy Contreras was moved from the bullpen to make a spot start last Wednesday and is slated to get another turn in the rotation this coming Thursday versus Oakland.     Advice: Burnes was away from the club for the final three games of its weekend series against the Rangers while tending to more important family matters.     Perales (elbow) underwent a full UCL reconstruction surgery last week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

    Advice: As anticipated, Perales required a traditional Tommy John surgery to repair the damage ligament in his right elbow rather than an internal brace procedure. As a result, Perales is unlikely to be ready to pitch late in the 2025 season, whereas an internal brace procedure would have resulted in a shorter timeline that could have put him in line to pitch at some point after the All-Star break in 2025.     Vasquez (forearm) has been cleared to make his next start Friday versus the Diamondbacks in San Diego, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Advice: In his most recent start in Friday's 9-2 win over the Mets, Vasquez took a no-decision after he was lifted after 59 pitches and four innings when he was struck in the right forearm by a comebacker. Follow-up X-rays cleared Vasquez of any structural damage to his forearm, and he's been cleared to make his next start after he played catch Sunday without incident. Since returning from Triple-A El Paso on June 1 and rejoining the big-league rotation, Vasquez has gone 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB in 30 innings spanning six starts.     Brubaker (elbow) had his rehab assignment transferred from the Florida Complex League to Double-A Somerset on Sunday. He pitched three shutout innings for Somerset, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.

    Advice: This was Brubaker's third outing of his rehab assignment -- he previously pitched one game for Single-A Tampa and one game for the FCL Yankees. The right-hander looked good Sunday, throwing 30 of 47 pitches for strikes and yielding just one hit (a double). Brubaker appears to be building up his workload to take on a starting role, and he'll likely need a few more rehab outings before he's ready to be activated off the injured list.     Advice: Though Kelly is steadily upping his throwing distance, the Diamondbacks haven't yet indicated when the right-hander might be ready to resume mound work. In any case, Kelly recently acknowledged that he's not expecting to come off the 60-day injured list until mid-to-late August, so he still has several weeks to go and multiple checkpoints to hit in his rehab program before a more precise target date for his return is identified.     The Diamondbacks are moving up Zac Gallen’s next start to Thursday against the Dodgers.

    Advice: The Arizona Diamondbacks want to get Gallen pitching on every fifth day until the All-Star break, which means he will now face the Dodgers instead of the Padres on Friday as was originally planned. Instead, Slade Cecconi will be moved back to take that start. It’s obviously not great news for fantasy leagues, but the Dodgers have some injuries in their lineup, and Gallen is talented enough that you’re probably starting him regardless of opponent.
