    • Pablo López strikes out 14 in victory over A’s
Pablo López delivered his finest start of the season on Sunday, racking up 14 strikeouts over eight innings of shutout baseball in a victory over the Athletics.

Advice: López allowed just two hits — both of them singles — and one walk on the brilliant afternoon. The 28-year-old hurler bounced back in a huge way after being shelled by the Rays his last time out, looking like the star hurler that we saw dominating on a nightly basis for the Twins during the 2023 campaign. He piled up 19 swings and misses on 102 pitches in the contest — 10 of those on his fastball alone — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll see if he can build off of this start and further improve upon his 5.11 ERA and 1.17 WHIP when he takes the mound against the Mariners in Seattle on Saturday. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:18 pm

    • Labors in rehab start
Snell (groin) made a rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Sacramento, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while failing to strike out a batter across 1.2 innings.

Advice: Snell wasn't particularly effective in the first start of his rehab assignment, throwing just 27 of his 51 pitches for strikes in a 5-4 win over Round Rock. Following the contest, the left-hander said he anticipates needing at least one more rehab appearance, if not more, stating that he wants to be "healthy and 100 percent" before he returns from the 15-day injured list, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Snell had been limited to just six starts in his first season with the Giants before landing on the 15-day injured list June 3 with a left groin strain. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:15 pm

    • Blake Snell chased in second inning of rehab start
Blake Snell (groin) struggled in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks over just 1 2/3 innings.

Advice: None of the five outs that the 31-year-old southpaw did record came via the strikeout. Snell threw 51 pitches in contest, 27 of those for strikes. The expectation was always that Snell would require at least two rehab starts before he was ready to return, and given his struggles on Sunday it’s likely that they’ll want to see better before they bring him back. • Moved to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Luzardo (back) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Advice: Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Luzardo would likely be out for 4-to-6 weeks as a result of his lumbar stress reaction, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll out until at least Aug. 18. He will be joined on the 60-day IL by Edward Cabrera (shoulder), and the Marlins will bring up Kyle Tyler and Kent Emanuel from Triple-A to fill their open 40-man roster spots. • Marlins transfer Jesús Luzardo to 60-day IL
Marlins transferred LHP Jesús Luzardo to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The procedural move opens up a spot on Miami’s 40-man roster and will keep Luzardo sidelined until mid-August. The 26-year-old southpaw landed on the injured list earlier this weekend with a stress reaction in his back and is going to wind up missing at least two months now. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:12 am

    • Picks up one-out save
Suarez picked up a one-out save in a win over the Brewers on Saturday night while not allowing any hits or walks.

Advice: Suarez likely wasn't expecting to make an appearance with the Padres up 6-0 to open the ninth, but things changed quickly when Brice Turang launched a grand slam off Jhony Brito to bring Milwaukee back within two runs with two outs in the frame. However, Suarez was able to put out the fire, retiring William Contreras on a groundout to end the game and secure his 19th save of the season. Suarez has not allowed any hits or walks over his last two appearances after suffering his only blown save of the year against the Phillies on June 18. In fact, he's issued only one walk over his last nine outings. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:25 am
    • Robert Suarez secures one-out save on Saturday
Robert Suarez picked up his 19th save of the season on Saturday, recording the final out against the Brewers.

Advice: It didn’t seem like Suarez would be needed in this one after the Padres entered the ninth inning leading 6-0, but after Brice Turang slugged a two-out grand slam that made things a bit tighter, the 33-year-old right-hander was summoned to close it out. It took him just three pitches to get William Contreras to bounce out to third base to end it. On the season, he has now converted 19 of his first 20 save chances while registering a 1.16 ERA and a 29/6 K/BB ratio over 31 innings of work. Rotoworld Saturday, 6:59 pm
    • Likely out 4-to-6 weeks
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that Luzardo, who was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Saturday with a lumbar stress reaction, will likely be out for 4-to-6 weeks, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Luzardo's back issue cropped up during his previous start last Sunday in Washington, but he had been on track to start Saturday's game against the Mariners until the Marlins scratched him a day in advance. He was moved to the IL a day later, with Schumaker confirming prior to Saturday's contest that the southpaw will be sidelined through at least the All-Star break with the injury. With the Marlins shaping up as non-contenders this season, Luzardo had been a sought-after name on the trade market, but his uncertain health could limit other teams' interest leading up to the July 30 deadline. Luzardo owns a 5.00 ERA over 12 starts on the season, but he had shown improved form since late April with a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 46.2 innings over his last eight outings. • Beginning assignment Sunday
Snell (groin) will make his first rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Snell pitched three innings in a simulated game Tuesday, and the goal will be to build him up to 50 pitches during his first game in Triple-A. The Giants haven't announced whether they will keep the southpaw in the minors past Saturday or return him to their rotation right away, but a decision will likely be made shortly after his first start.
