    • Max Scherzer wills his way to an effective start
      Max Scherzer allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles. He struck out four and walked two in a loss.

      Advice: This version of Scherzer could be effective if he wasn’t pitching against the best lineup in baseball. He stayed around the zone, made hitters feel uncomfortable, mixed all five of his pitches, and got his fastball up to 95 MPH.     • George Springer (hand) exits after hit by pitch
      George Springer was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Yankees after being hit on the left hand by a pitch thrown by Michael Tonkin.

      Advice: The Blue Jays announced that Springer underwent precautionary imaging on his hand that came back negative for any fractures. That doesn’t mean he’s completely out of the woods, but it’s a very encouraging sign. For now, he’s being considered day-to-day with a left hand contusion. Rotoworld Friday, 6:39 pm

      Marsh went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a stolen base in a 2-0 win over the Marlins on Friday.

      Advice: Marsh doubled in the second inning and walked and stole second in the fourth. He later walked again in the eighth and has reached base seven times in his past two starts with a home run and a steal. Thanks to recent injuries to Bryce Harper (hamstring) and Kyle Schwarber (groin), Marsh was in the cleanup spot Friday night and will likely continue to hit in the middle of the order against right-handed pitching while his teammates remain on the injured list.     • Brandon Marsh reaches three times in win on Friday
      Brandon Marsh doubled, drew a pair of walks and stole a base as the Phillies triumphed over the Marlins on Friday evening in Philadelphia.

      Advice: Marsh led off the second inning with a double and advanced to third on a fly ball but was left stranded there. He then drew a one-out walk off of Kyle Tyler in the fourth inning and swiped second base to get himself into scoring position, but the Phillies were unable to cash him in.     • Swing test pushed back
      Jung (wrist) will have his swing test pushed back to Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Jung was slated to swing a bat Friday, but he'll have that evaluation pushed back a day. He has been on the injured list since April 2 with a fractured right wrist, and his rehab program with Triple-A Round Rock was shut down due to tendon inflammation. Jung could be activated off the injured list soon if his wrist checks out OK on Saturday, though he'll likely be eased back into the action with planned off days once he does return.     • Will swing bat Friday
      Jung (wrist) will attempt to swing a bat Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Jung's return has been delayed due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, but he's ready to test things out swinging a bat after resting for a week and receiving a cortisone shot. The third baseman could be activated soon if things go well in the cage Friday, but when Jung does return he might be eased back into action by playing every other day or receiving one off day per series, according to Grant.     • Productive in rout
      Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI in Thursday's win over the Yankees.

      Advice: The hit was a fluky one -- he squibbed a ball down the first-base line and it caromed off the bag and away from Ben Rice rather than rolling foul -- but Turner still put together a productive night in a 9-2 rout. The veteran slugger has found a groove at the plate, going 10-for-25 (.400) over the last eight games with a double, a homer, four RBI, seven runs and an 8:6 BB:K.       Springer went 3-for-3 with a pair of three-run home runs in Thursday's 9-2 win against the Yankees.

      Advice: Springer punished Yankees starter Carlos Rodon for two three-run homers in the first two innings to set the Blue Jays up for a big victory. The six RBI were a single-game career high for the veteran outfielder, who came into the contest with two home runs and six RBI over his previous 25 games combined. Springer batted an awful .137 through his first 21 contests of June but has gone 6-for-8 with three long balls and eight runs batted in over his past two games.       Advice: Springer took Carlos Rodon deep in each of the first two innings. He now has eight home runs on the season. Springer has certainly struggled this year with a .205 average and .618 OPS with 23 RBI on the year.
