      Diamondbacks placed LHP Jordan Montgomery on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 29, with right knee inflammation.

      Advice: Arizona had to come up with something here since Montgomery badly needs to press the reset button on the metaphorical console. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that injury occurred during a bullpen session over the weekend and he doesn’t expect it to be an extended absence. The 31-year-old southpaw’s Arizona debut has gone about as poorly as one could imagine with a bloated 6.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 45/23 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings (13 starts).       Advice: Montgomery was tagged for eight runs (four earned) during his start Thursday against the Twins, though it's unclear if the injury played a role in those results. The veteran left-hander will be eligible to be reinstated for the final game before the All-Star break July 14 versus the Blue Jays, but a return after the Midsummer Classic likely more realistic.       Pfaadt allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings Sunday against the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Pfaadt carried a shutout into the fifth inning before serving up a solo home run to Zack Gelof to tie the game at 1-1. That was the lone mark against him, though it was enough to cost him a chance at the win after the Diamondbacks didn't take the lead back until the bottom of the seventh. Sunday was the third time in June Pfaadt punched out eight batters, but it came on the heels of consecutive starts in which he combined for just two strikeouts in 12.2 innings. Length has been a strength for Pfaadt, as he's gone at least six innings in 13 of his last 15 starts.       Bibee (7-2) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings in a 7-2 victory over the Royals. He struck out three without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander looked shaky early, serving up solo shots to Vinnie Pasquantino in the first inning and Michael Massey in the second, but Bibee didn't let a runner even get to second base after that. He's reeled off three straight wins, all quality starts, and he'll take a 3.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 109:22 K:BB through 93.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Giants.       King (6-5) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 11-1 rout of the Red Sox. He struck out six.

      Advice: The right-hander blanked Boston for five innings before serving up a solo shot to Jarren Duran, but San Diego had already compiled a 10-0 lead by that point. King produced his first quality start since June 2 and his seventh of the season on 89 pitches (63 strikes). He'll take a 3.61 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 115:39 K:BB through 99.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Diamondbacks.       Tanner Bibee allowed two runs in six innings and got the win in the Guardians’ 7-2 victory over the Royals on Saturday.

      Advice: Bibee gave up four hits, walked none and struck out three. The win was his seventh of the season and third in a row. It wasn’t a big strikeout game for Bibee, just another solid outing. He has a 3.47 ERA and 3.29 xFIP on the year. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Giants at home next week.

    • Michael King bounces back with six strong in win
      Michael King held the Red Sox to one run over six innings with six strikeouts while picking up a win Saturday.

      Advice: King didn’t have to be at his best with Tanner Houck faltering, but he was pretty close to it, anyway. The right-hander gave up a solo homer to Jarren Duran, and that was it in terms of scoring blemishes. King has been fairly up-and-down in his first year with the Padres, but there have been enough quality starts like this one to keep the optimism going.       Montgomery (6-5) was saddled with the loss Thursday, allowing eight runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk over 2.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Montgomery's line could have been a lot worse if not for a catcher's interference call and a throwing error accounting for half of the eight total runs he allowed. Among the nine hits allowed were three infield singles, no homers and two extra-base hits for Montgomery, suggesting that this performance was marred by a bit of bad luck. After struggling to 14 earned runs allowed over six innings during consecutive starts on May 31 and June 5, Montgomery had righted the ship over the next three outings prior to Thursday, allowing just five earned runs over 16.2 innings and collecting the win in each.
