• Jorge Polanco (hamstring) could need IL stint
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

Advice: There had been an expectation that the 30-year-old second baseman would be ready to return on Friday night after three straight days off, but alas it was not to be. The Mariners are now saying that he may miss the entire series against the Orioles and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. Stay tuned. Josh Rojas will slide over and cover second base in his absence on Friday while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

  • Mitch Garver returns to Mariners’ lineup Friday
Mitch Garver (back) returned to the Mariners’ starting lineup on Friday night.

Advice: The 33-year-old slugger sat out each of the team’s last two games due to back spasms. He’s feeling much improved now though and ready to give it a go. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat third against Orioles’ southpaw John Means on Friday evening in Baltimore. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Homer, three RBI in win
Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season. With Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) set to resume baseball activities early next week, Triolo could soon be headed back to a bench role. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago

  • Yordan Alvarez getting a night off on Friday
Yordan Alvarez is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved night off for the 26-year-old slugger, who will still probably appear off the bench in a critical spot on Friday night. Yainer Diaz will function as the team’s designated hitter and will bat fifth against Brewers’ right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

  • Dodgers to promote Miguel Vargas from Triple-A
Francys Romero reports that the Dodgers plan to promote Miguel Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 24-year-old has kind of forced their hand with his hot-hitting at the Triple-A Level — slashing .295/.437/.583 with eight homers, 38 RBI and eight stolen bases (in 14 attempts) over 181 plate appearances in 39 games. He played almost exclusively in left field during his time at Triple-A this season, so it’ll be interesting to see how he’s utilized by the Dodgers this time around. With Jason Heyward also expected to be activated from the injured list, the Dodgers will have to clear some room on their active roster on Friday. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago

  • Outrighted to Charlotte
Ortega cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Ortega held the right to decline his outright assignment and elect free agency, but he will instead remain within the White Sox organization and look to turn things around in the minors. The 33-year-old went 1-for-14 during his stint with the Sox, but he has slashed .241/.378/.431 with 14 RBI through 75 plate appearances with Charlotte. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Continuing assignment Saturday
Lowe (oblique) will resume his rehab assignment Saturday at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe initially landed on the injured list April 12 with a strained right oblique, and he played four rehab games in the minors before a setback temporarily halted his assignment Sunday. Now that he's been cleared to get back on the field, the plan is for Lowe to play two more games with Durham before returning to Tampa Bay on Monday ahead of its upcoming series against the Red Sox. • Evan Carter (back) available off bench on Friday
Evan Carter (back) was held out of the Rangers’ starting lineup once again on Friday night, but will be available off the bench.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder has been sidelined since Saturday due to stiffness in his lower back. The good news is that he’s progressing and won’t require a trip to the injured list, and likely wouldn’t have been in the starting lineup anyways on Friday with left-hander Tyler Anderson taking the ball for the Angels. Expect Carter to return to the starting lineup at some point over the weekend. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago

  • Jared Triolo homers as part of three-RBI day
Jared Triolo delivered a two-run homer and an RBI single against the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Ke’Bryan Hayes’ back injury gave Triolo a reprieve when Nick Gonzales was called up, but Gonzales is performing well so far (.824 OPS) and Triolo will need more of this if he’s going to stick around after Hayes returns. Triolo entered the day having gone hitless in his last four games and having collected only three extra-base hits in 161 plate appearances on the season. He’s at .201/.291/.257 overall.
