      Kikuchi (2-5) took the loss Saturday as the Blue Jays fell 8-1 to the Pirates, coughing up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Pittsburgh jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and while Kikuchi was able to avoid an early exit, he still wound up putting extra pressure on a Toronto bullpen that had already been taxed by a 14-inning game Friday. The southpaw left the mound after 89 pitches (61 strikes), and he's been tagged for 10 earned runs in 8.1 frames over his last two starts -- a far cry from the prior six weeks, in which he delivered six quality starts in eight outings with a 2.61 ERA.       Ezequiel Tovar went 3-for-4 with a double on Saturday in the Rockies’ loss to the Dodgers.

      Advice: Tovar notched his second consecutive three-hit performance to raise his batting average to .302 (71-for-235) with eight homers and four steals through 56 contests. The 22-year-old shortstop has been an unexpected batting average booster this season and wound up leading the National League with 16 extra-base hits during the month of May. That’ll do.       Manaea (3-2) took the loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Manaea tossed two scoreless frames before Christian Walker hit a grand slam in the third inning and then surrendered two more runs and exited with two outs in the sixth . The 10 strikeouts were a season high for Manaea, and it was the first outing in which he has allowed more than three earned runs since April 13.       Advice: After two scoreless frames, Manaea loaded the bases with a base hit and two walks in the third. Christian Walker would clear them all with a grand slam to put the Diamondbacks ahead. A double and a base hit in the sixth would drive in a run and knock Manaea from the game with two outs at 105 pitches. He struck out a season-high ten batters. Santander added another hit with a single in the fourth. The 29-year-old slugger is hitting .218/.300/.440 with ten homers and 30 RBI across 217 plate appearances.       Yusei Kikuchi was hit hard in Saturday afternoon’s loss to the Pirates, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The 32-year-old southpaw struck out four batters on the afternoon while issuing one base on balls. The Pirates jumped on him for three runs in the opening inning, including a two-run blast off the bat of Ke’Bryan Hayes. Kikuchi then settled in until they scratched out two more in the fifth and another while chasing him in the sixth inning. He generated 12 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent.
