    • Needs 'at least a few' rehab starts
      Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole (elbow) will require "at least a few" rehab starts before rejoining the major-league rotation, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Cole will make his first rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Somerset and is slated to throw 40-to-50 pitches in that outing. If you bake in a 15-to-20 pitch increase in subsequent rehab starts, the righty would presumably require, at minimum, two additional outings after Tuesday's appearance. That would mean Cole won't rejoin the Yankees at least until late June, and it's possible it will take longer, depending on how things go and how he feels.     • Carlos Estévez perfect in ninth for save
      Carlos Estévez threw a perfect ninth with a one-run lead for a save Monday against the Padres.

      Estevez struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning and earned a save over the Padres on Monday.

      Advice: Estevez needed only 10 pitches to quickly finish off the 2-1 victory. He's given up one earned run over his last 6.1 innings, lowering his season ERA to 4.50 through 18 frames.       Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in a 7-4 win over the Cardinals on Monday.

      Advice: Alvarez hit a two-run home run off Kyle Gibson in the third inning, then doubled and scored a run in the sixth. The homer was Alvarez's third in as many games, and he now has four multi-hit efforts in his past seven contests.       Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

      Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season.       Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a walk and a two-run home run against the Cardinals on Monday.

      Advice: The home run was Alvarez’ 12th of the season. He took Kyle Gibson deep in the third inning to put the Astros on the board and later scored on an RBI single by Jake Meyers.     • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
      Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



      Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

      Semien went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers on Monday.

      Advice: Semien opened the scoring with a leadoff homer off Tarik Skubal and added a single and a walk in the third and fifth innings. The homer was Semien's first since May 17, and he has now reached base in 10 of his 14 June plate appearances.
