      Advice: Bednar reported feeling tightness in his side during his throwing session before Saturday's contest against the Rays and wasn't available to pitch in the game. His injury was initially believed to be relatively minor, so it's possible the 29-year-old reliever will be able to return after a minimum-length stay on the IL.       Pirates placed RHP David Bednar on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a left oblique strain.

      Advice: Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday during a local radio interview that he hopes the injury is minor. The 29-year-old stopper was unavailable during Saturday’s game against the Rays due to left side tightness and is going to get some extra time off to rest and recover.     • Shifts to 60-day IL
      The Marlins transferred Cabrera (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

      Advice: Cabrera landed on the IL on May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and looked to be on the cusp of a return after making a three-inning rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. However, given the Marlins' decision to move him to the 60-day IL -- which now leaves him ineligible for activation for another two weeks -- it's possible that Cabrera hit a snag in his rehab start, or the organization is deliberately aiming to slow down his return. According to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com, Cabrera had been scheduled to make his second rehab start with Jacksonville on Tuesday and was expected to cover four innings or 60 pitches, but it's unclear if his move to the 60-day IL means that those plans have changed.       Advice: Nothing has changed with Cabrera’s return timeline as the procedural move was simply to free up a spot on Miami’s 40-man roster to bring in some emergency starting pitching depth.       Ober (7-4) earned the win over Oakland on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters over nine innings.

      Advice: Ober was extremely efficient in the impressive outing, needing just 89 pitches to polish off the first complete game of his career. The right-hander threw 70 of those pitches for strikes and racked up a career-best 23 whiffs. Ober did give up a pair of solo homers -- just the third time through 15 starts that he's allowed multiple home runs -- but those didn't hurt much with Minnesota's offense putting up 10 runs.       Morton (4-4) allowed five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Yankees on Saturday.

      Advice: Morton matched his season high with the five walks, something he has done three times this year. He's also given up five or more runs in three of his last five outings. The 40-year-old has done a good job of eating innings, but the results have been mediocre -- he's at a 4.20 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 80:35 K:BB over 79.1 innings through 14 starts.       Charlie Morton struggled in a losing effort against the Yankees on Saturday night, giving up five runs on five hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The 40-year-old hurler also issued five free passes on the night while striking out four opposing batters. Morton served up a two-run homer to Aaron Judge in the opening inning, then the Yankees scratched out single runs in the third and fourth innings before chasing Morton while scoring a run in the sixth. Morton generated 11 swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night — nine of them on his curveball — while posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back and improve upon his 4.20 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and an 80/35 K/BB ratio (79 1/3 innings) when he squares off against the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday.
