    • Suffers right elbow contusion
The Cardinals announced that Arenado was removed in the top of the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Marlins due to a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Initial X-rays on Arenado's elbow appear to have revealed no structural damage, but he'll undergo further medical evaluation as the Cardinals look to ascertain that he's not dealing with anything more than a bruise. Before he was lifted from the game for a pitch runner after being hit in the elbow by a 94 mile-per-hour sinker during his fourth plate appearance of the day, Arenado went 2-for-3 with his first stolen base of the season and a run scored. • Cardinals say Arenado has right elbow contusion
The Cardinals said Nolan Arenado has a right elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch Wednesday.

Advice: That doesn’t mean much at this point, since he’s still undergoing tests. It certainly didn’t look good when it happened. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

    • Leaves following HBP on elbow
Arenado was removed from Wednesday's game in Miami after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He went 2-for-3 with his first stolen base of the season and a run scored prior to exiting the game.

Advice: A Huascar Brazoban offering in the top of the eighth inning caught Arenado, who went down in a heap. He looked to be in considerable pain and eventually exited the field with a trainer. The Cardinals should have more on his condition shortly. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago

    • David Bednar works perfect frame for 16th save
David Bednar hurled a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Reds to record his 16th save of the season.

Advice: Bednar got the call to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to set down the heart of Cincinnati’s lineup. He got Elly De La Cruz to pop up and Spencer Steer to fly out before coaxing a game-ending fly out from Jake Fraley to slam the door. The 29-year-old righty has recorded saves on back-to-back days against the Reds after suffering a blown save last Friday against the Rockies in his previous appearance. • Mitch Keller spins seven scoreless frames vs. Reds
Mitch Keller struck out seven over seven scoreless innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Reds.

Advice: Keller traded zeroes with Reds ace Hunter Greene during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at PNC Park, limiting Cincinnati’s injury-depleted lineup to just two hits and a pair of walks over seven nearly-flawless frames. He generated only nine swinging strikes, but consistently filled up the strike zone, finishing with a robust 34 percent CSW. The 28-year-old righty has been impressive of late, surrendering three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine outings since April 30. He’ll bring a pristine 3.11 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 85/24 K/BB ratio across 92 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch on Tuesday against the Pirates at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. • Hunter Greene posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing. He’ll carry a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98/37 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch against the Pirates on Tuesday back in Cincinnati. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago
    • Nolan Arenado exits after taking pitch off right elbow
Nolan Arenado left Wednesday’s game against the Marlins after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch.

Advice: Arenado was still in a whole lot of pain and not moving his arm as he was helped off. José Fermín replaced him in the contest. If Arenado goes on the IL, Fermín would stand to benefit, but the Cardinals could also give Brandon Donovan more infield time. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago

    • Resumes playing catch
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Brown (neck) resumed throwing Tuesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Brown landed on the 15-day injured list June 11 with what the Cubs labeled as a stress reaction to the left side of his neck. Counsell said that the pain in Brown's neck is already subsiding, and the fact that the right-hander is throwing again bodes well for his chances of avoiding an extended absence. Jordan Wicks (oblique) was placed on the IL just four days after Brown, so the Cubs have turned back to Kyle Hendricks as their No. 5 starter in the meantime. Rotowire.com Today, 10:08 am

    • Two hits in return
Winker went 2-for-3 with a double in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Nats managed only four hits on the night in a shutout loss, with Winker's fourth-inning double being the team's only extra-base hit. The 30-year-old outfielder sat out Sunday's game after tweaking his knee on the basepaths Saturday, but he seemed no worse for wear Tuesday. On the season, Winker is slashing .270/.381/.398 with six homers, 31 RBI, 33 runs and a career-high 11 steals in 69 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 8:57 am
