      Gallen (hamstring) could start Saturday against Oakland if Thursday's bullpen session goes well, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

      Advice: Thursday's bullpen session will be the second one thrown by Gallen, who also has a couple of simulated games under his belt since he landed on the injured list.       Stone (9-2) picked up the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing four hits and no walks in a complete-game shutout while striking out seven.

      Advice: Stone was spectacular Wednesday, matching his season high with seven strikeouts en route to recording the first complete game of his major-league career. The right-hander retired the side in order in five of his nine frames and didn't allow a runner to reach second base outside of a leadoff double from Gavin Sheets to open the second. Stone has now won each of his last five decisions (spanning six starts) and has also posted at least six strikeouts in five of his last six outings.     • Struggles again Wednesday
      Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15.     • Luis Gil struggles again in loss
      Luis Gil labored through 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five earned runs with four walks and just two strikeouts.

      Advice: There’s been a hard shift in Gil’s season over the past week. He gave up 18 ER in his first 80 innings and 12 ER in his last 5 2/3 frames. He looked uncomfortable and weirdly enough, these last two starts he threw his lowest percentage of fastballs and two of his three highest percentages of changeups in any start this season. It’s important to note that he threw only 136 2/3 innings between 2021 and 2023, so the 85 2/3 he’s already thrown this season are already substantial given his lengthy injury history.

    • Gavin Stone tosses complete-game shutout in win
      Gavin Stone tossed a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts in a win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

      Advice: Stone made perhaps his best start of his career Wednesday against the White Sox, going a career-high nine scoreless innings for his first complete-game shutout. He scattered four hits and did not walk a batter, tossing 73-of-103 pitches for strikes with seven strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander has been outstanding on the season, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 70/25 K/BB ratio across 89 innings.       Altuve went 2-for-5 with a run scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: The veteran second baseman pilfered multiple bags in a game for the first time since May 2 while racking up multiple hits for the 11th time in June.     • Jose Altuve steals two bases in win over Rockies
      Jose Altuve went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and also stole two bases on Wednesday, powering the Astros to a 7-1 victory over the Rockies.

      Advice: As he’s done countless times in his legendary career, Altuve served as Houston’s primary offensive catalyst in this one, playing a key role in a four-run outburst in the seventh inning that ostensibly put the contest away. He got things going a couple frames earlier by reaching on a fourth-inning single before stealing both second and third base and scoring on Yainer Diaz’s run-scoring single. He also contributed a run-scoring single of his own in the ensuing frame before plating a run in the seventh inning courtesy of a fielder’s choice. The 34-year-old veteran fantasy stalwart has shown zero signs of slowing down and is really catching fire over the last few weeks, batting .365 (23-for-63) with three homers, 13 RBI and four steals over his last 15 games.     • Expects to swing bat soon
      Jung (wrist) said Wednesday that he expects to resume swinging a bat in a few days, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: Jung was examined Tuesday in Phoenix by the doctor who performed his right wrist surgery back in early April. While the third baseman has had his activation from the 60-day injured list pushed back a bit due to inflammation in the wrist, he's been told that his wrist is sound structurally. Jung's return has effectively been ruled out through the weekend, but it's possible he'll rejoin the Texas lineup shortly after that.
