  • Tigers make qualifying offer to V-Mart
Tigers extended a one-year qualifying offer to DH Victor Martinez.

Advice: He'll decline it, but both sides are interested in working out a deal. Martinez is reportedly looking for a four-year pact after batting .335/.409/.565 with 32 homers and 103 RBI this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Blue Jays claim Andy Dirks off waivers
Blue Jays claimed OF Andy Dirks off waivers from the Tigers.

Advice: Dirks missed all of the 2014 season while rehabbing from back surgery before eventually being shut down with a strained hamstring. He's been a useful player at times in the past, though, and shouldn't have trouble cracking the Jays' Opening Day roster as long as he's healthy. Dirks is a career .276/.332/.413 hitter. • Brewers decline Rickie Weeks' 2015 option
Brewers declined 2B Rickie Weeks' $14.5 million option for 2015.

Advice: It's no surprise, of course, after Weeks lost his second base job to Scooter Gennett this season. He hit well in a part-time role, batting .274/.357/.452 with eight homers over 286 plate appearances. He's injury-prone and the big upside isn't there anymore, but Weeks is probably intriguing enough to land a starting job somewhere this winter. Rotoworld.com

Astros activated RHP Jesse Crain from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Crain wound up missing the entire 2014 season due to his recovery from biceps surgery, as well as a shoulder ailment. He'll likely net an incentive-laden deal over the winter. Rotoworld.com

  • Kyle Blanks removed from 60-day DL
Athletics activated 1B/OF Kyle Blanks from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: The injury-prone 28-year-old was limited to 26 games this season due to tendinitis in his left Achilles, an issue that also bothered him in 2013. He hit .309/.409/.436 when healthy, but Blanks still might be non-tendered this offseason in his final year of arbitration eligibility. Rotoworld.com

  • Melky Cabrera activated from 60-day DL
Blue Jays activated OF Melky Cabrera from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Although his season ended prematurely with a broken right pinkie finger, Cabrera earned a nice payday this winter by batting .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI over 139 games. The Blue Jays are expected to make a hard push to re-sign him. Rotoworld.com

  • Gavin Floyd activated from 60-day DL
Braves activated RHP Gavin Floyd from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Floyd pitched pretty well after returning from Tommy John surgery but unfortunately saw his season cut short due to surgery in June to repair a fractured olecranon in his right elbow. He'll be a free agent this offseason and is expected to be healthy for spring training. Rotoworld.com

  • Taylor Jordan undergoes elbow surgery
Taylor Jordan underwent surgery last month to remove bone chips from his right elbow.

Advice: Jordan missed the last few months of the season with elbow issues, so it's no surprise that an operation was needed. The good news is that he's expected to be fine for spring training. He'll likely begin 2015 in the Triple-A rotation. Rotoworld.com

  • Victor Martinez to seek four-year contract
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that impending free agent Victor Martinez will be looking for a four-year contract this winter.

Advice: Martinez will turn 36 in December, but you can hardly blame him for shooting for a four-year deal after he batted .335/.409/.565 with 32 homers and 103 RBI this season. The Tigers would love to keep him, but they could balk at giving him another four-year pact. Regardless, V-Mart will be in high demand this offseason with offense down across baseball. Rotoworld.com

  • Jays begin contract talks with Melky Cabrera
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Blue Jays have begun contract talks with Melky Cabrera.

Advice: Heyman hears Toronto is "willing to offer at least a three-year deal" to the impending free agent outfielder, who batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI over 139 games this season. If an agreement isn't reached before the deadline for free agent filing, the Jays will make Cabrera a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer so they can get draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere. Melky turned 30 years old in August. Rotoworld.com

  • Bautista: Jays have 50-50 shot at Cabrera
Jose Bautista said on Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Tuesday that he believes the Blue Jays have a "50-50" chance of re-signing Melky Cabrera.

Advice: The Blue Jays are expected to make a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer to Cabrera, but they'll have to compete with the open market in order to keep him. "I think he’s going to allow the team a chance to come and match any offer that he might get out on the free agent market," said Bautista. "I think the Blue Jays are going to have a shot at bringing him back, so hopefully for our fan base and for my sake – making my job easier and having him on base a lot, because he does get on base a lot with his bat – hopefully the team does take that chance and re-sign him somehow." Cabrera batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI over 139 games this season. Rotoworld.com
