  • Kyle Seager homers, doubles in victory
Kyle Seager went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double to lead the Mariners to a 7-4 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Advice: That's 20 homers and 28 doubles for Seager. He seems to be on his way to topping last year's career highs in both categories (26 homers, 37 doubles). He's also hitting .288, which is a lot better than his usual .260. Rotoworld.com 44 minutes ago
  • Jose Reyes diagnosed with intercostal strain
Jose Reyes has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 intercostal strain.

Advice: Reyes went to a local hospital for tests after feeling a muscle tweak on his final swing of Tuesday afternoon's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals -- part of a traditional doubleheader at Citi Field. He did not play in the night game and the Mets are expecting him to miss at least a couple of days. This could easily turn into a DL situation. Rotoworld.com 47 minutes ago

  • Gyorko homers in both halves of DH again
Jedd Gyorko homered in both halves of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Advice: He also homered in both halves of a doubleheader last Wednesday versus the Padres and he now has seven home runs in his last nine games. Gyorko probably isn't going to finish this season with an .800-plus OPS -- it's at .814 right now -- but he does have pretty good power and he's probably going to keep playing regularly for St. Louis. There's reason to grab him and start him in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld.com 54 minutes ago

  • Garcia hits eighth homer in win over Twins
Adonis Garcia went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

Advice: Garcia went deep off Twins starter Ervin Santana in the second inning for a solo shot. The third baseman is hitting .333 with three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored in the month of July. The good month has Garcia's overall line up to .264/.300/.389. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:41 pm

  • Cody Asche goes hitless in loss
Cody Asche went hitless in Tuesday's defeat and is hitting just .125 in 64 at-bats this month.

Advice: Asche got off to a hot start after coming off the disabled list last month, but he's done absolutely nothing lately. He's now possibly in position to lose his starting job to Aaron Altherr in a week or two, though that will also depend on what happens with Peter Bourjos. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:35 pm

  • Brett Lawrie (hamstring) to be placed on DL
Brett Lawrie is headed to the disabled list with a hamstring strain.

  • Valbuena leaves game due to hamstring strain
Luis Valbuena suffered a right hamstring strain on Tuesday night against the Yankees.

Advice: Valbuena pulled up lame while running to first base in the bottom of the second inning. Houston is calling him day-to-day, but a 15-day disabled list stint seems possible. That would open more playing time at third base for top prospect Alex Bregman, who served as the Astros' designated hitter on Tuesday after starting at the hot corner in his MLB debut on Monday. Luis Valbuena left Tuesday's game against the Yankees with a right leg injury.

Advice: Valbuena fell while running to first base in the bottom of the second inning. He looked to be in a good amount of pain as he limped to the home dugout at Minute Maid Park. Valbuena was starting at third base in this one, with top prospect Alex Bregman serving as the Astros' DH. Marwin Gonzalez moved to the hot corner and Jason Castro took over at first base. Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said he's hopeful Jake Lamb (hand) can return Friday.

Advice: Lamb has been dealing with a bruised left hand. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Monday night against the Brewers and is hitless over his last five games. • Gallo at 1B and batting sixth Tuesday night
Joey Gallo is starting at first base and batting sixth on Tuesday night against the Athletics.

Advice: Mitch Moreland is at designated hitter and Jurickson Profar is starting at shortstop. Gallo will probably get the majority of his playing time at first base, with Moreland seeing a dip in action. The 22-year-old slugger was sporting a .949 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at Triple-A Round Rock. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:59 pm

  • Rangers promote 22-year-old slugger Gallo
Rangers recalled INF/OF Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Gallo has posted a .949 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at the Triple-A level. Plate discipline remains an issue for the 22-year-old, but he has incredible raw power and could take on significant fantasy value if he finds a good offensive groove and regular playing time in Texas. Gallo has appeared in 23 games at first base and 33 games at third base this year with Round Rock. He played a lot of left field last year. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:35 pm

Trevor Plouffe (rib) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of this week.

Advice: But manager Paul Molitor cautioned that the middle of next week is more likely. Plouffe has been on the disabled list since July 4 with a fractured rib. He was batting just .252/.283/.399 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 58 games before the injury. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:30 pm

  • Nunez (2-5, HR, 2 RBI) stars in Monday's win
Athletics 3B prospect Renato Nunez homered and drove in two runs Monday in a win for Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Nunez plated a run with an RBI single in the fourth before driving a solo home run off Omaha right-hander Clayton Mortensen in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has contributed at least one RBI in each of his last four games. Nunez has shown nice power this year with 15 round-trippers in 359 at-bats, though it's come with a disappointing .228 batting average. Rotoworld.com Today, 11:47 am

  • Eugenio Suarez hits 17th homer
Eugenio Suarez had a two-run homer and a double Monday against the Giants.

Advice: It's disappointing that Suarez's OBP has been hanging right around .300 for much of the year, but he's up to 17 homers now. It's too bad those homers have come with just seven doubles and a 100/27 K/BB ratio in 345 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:53 pm
  • Tyler Saladino delivers game-winner
Tyler Saladino went 2-for-4 with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as the White Sox edged the Cubs 5-4 on Monday.

Advice: Saladino is outhitting Brett Lawrie over the last month and is the superior defensive second baseman, so maybe it's time to give him a crack at the starting job. He wouldn't do much for fantasy leaguers if it happens, but as far as the White Sox are concerned, he just needs to be a better player than Lawrie. Right now, Saladino has a .722 OPS in 130 AB, while Lawrie is at .723 in 351 AB. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:20 pm

Javier Baez finished 3-for-4 with a homer and a doubles Monday against the White Sox.

  • Luis Valbuena reaches four times
Luis Valbuena went 3-for-3 with a walk Monday in the loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Valbuena reached base safely four times in four plate appearances. The rest of the Astros did so four times in 31 plate appearances in the 2-1 loss. That's why Valbuena won't be losing his starting job to Alex Bergman or Yuleski Gurriel this month. He'll sit against a lot of lefties, but he'll be in there at first base or DH against righties. • Reyes notches RBI triple in win over Marlins
Jose Reyes went 1-for-5 with an RBI triple in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: Reyes showed that despite his age (33), he still brings a strong speed element to play whenever he steps to the dish. In Sunday's case, he collected an RBI triple against Marlins starter Jose Urena in the third inning. Since the Mets called him up on July 5, the embattled third baseman is slashing .242/.284/.516 with three homers, eight RBI and three steals over the course of 62 at-bats. He has quietly picked up hits in eight of his last 10 games. He is worth a shot in NL-only and deeper mixed-league formats at this juncture. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 1:34 pm

Adonis Garcia stroked two hits in four chances, adding an RBI and a run scored on Saturday.

Advice: He singled and scored in the first inning. He singled again in the third inning to drive in Freddie Freeman. • Gyorko continues to terrorize SD with 3 HR
Jedd Gyorko continued to terrorize his former club, blasting a pair of home runs to power the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Gyorko tagged Padres starter Paul Clemens for a solo homer in the third inning then added on a two-run blast in the fifth. Josh Harrison tripled and scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday, giving the Pirates a 3-2, walk-off win over the Brewers.

Advice: Harrison crushed a Tyler Thornburg pitch to deep center field and busted it out of the box, thinking triple all the way. The relay throw then skipped past third baseman Hernan Perez, letting Harrison walk home as the winning run. It certainly wasn't the most conventional way to walk off, but the Bucs will take it.
