    • Eric Chavez (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week.
Advice: "Everything has been good -- hitting, running, throwing," Chavez said. "I didn't know really what to expect, but [it's] gone really good." Chavez has already missed three weeks of action and doesn't figure to be activated until the tail end of June, at the earliest.

    • Eric Chavez (oblique) will start swinging a bat on Saturday.
Advice: Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Chavez has been "getting much better" of late. Out since late May, he seems likely to require a brief rehab assignment before returning, which should come later this month.

    • Brett Lawrie (ankle) took grounders and some light batting practice on Wednesday afternoon.
Advice: It's a nice step in the right direction for the young third baseman, who injured his ankle on a slide on May 27. He should be cleared to run the bases in about one week. Then comes the minor league rehab assignment. The best guess right now is that he's back in early July.

    • Brett Lawrie no longer has a walked boot on his left foot and has started throwing and riding a stationary bike.
Advice: Lawrie still needs to gain strength in his ailing left ankle, and there remains no timetable for his return. Still, it's a sign of at least a bit of progress for the 23-year-old. He hurt the ankle on a slid back on May 27.

    • David Freese is not in the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday.
Advice: It's just a day off for Freese, who grounded into three double plays and struck out in his four at-bats Tuesday. Daniel Descalso is getting the start at third base.

    • David Freese went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored as the Cardinals beat the Marlins on Saturday.
Advice: Freese was just one of the Cardinals who had a great game on Saturday, as five players had multiple hits against the Marlins. Freese's homer was just his fourth of the season but he's now hitting .292 on the heels of a recently ended 20-game hitting streak. He's now started on a new one.

    • Hanley Ramirez went 4-for-4 and hit a two-run homer as the Dodgers' designated hitter in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Advice: The availability of the DH in New York this week was well timed for Hanley, who is still dealing with a balky hamstring. No word yet on whether he'll play the field, DH again or sit in the nightcap versus the Yankees.

    • Hanley Ramirez is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

    • Hanley Ramirez is back in the Dodgers' lineup Friday.
Advice: Ramirez has been limited to pinch-hitting over the last week after aggravating his left hamstring injury. He's certainly at risk of hurting it again, but the Dodgers feel he's good enough to give it a go.

    • Mike Aviles went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Indians beat the Royals on Tuesday.
Advice: Aviles was in the middle of the Indians' three-run eighth inning, eventually scoring the winning run on a Michael Brantley sacrifice fly. The utility infielder has gotten regular playing time with Asdrubal Cabrera sidelined, but he should return to a reserve role when Cabrera returns. He's hitting .277 on the year.

    • Mike Aviles finished 3-for-4 in the Indians' loss to the Nationals on Saturday in Cleveland.
Advice: Aviles had a double in the third inning, a single in the fifth and a second double in the ninth. He has struggled for the most part this season but may be a decent fill-in for Troy Tulowitzki owners over the next several weeks.

    • Evan Longoria is back at third base for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Advice: Longoria served as the DH over the weekend while he was nursing some plantar fasciitis in his right foot. While he's obviously feeling better, it's possible he'll be back in the DH spot for the second game of the doubleheader.

    • Martin Prado went 1-for-4 Monday against the Marlins.
Advice: Owners hoping for Prado to shake his season-long slump as the weather began heating up have been disappointed, as June has been the veteran's worst at the plate thus far. Prado hasn't hit a homer since late-April and has logged an RBI in just two games this month. He's batting an anemic .244/.296/.335 in his first season in Arizona.

    • Matt Dominguez smacked a grand slam in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.
Advice: Dominguez lofted a Tom Gorzelanny pitch high into the air and ultimately into the Crawford Boxes in the seventh inning. He also added a single and a sacrifice fly. Dominguez is batting only .236 this season, but he now has 10 homers and 40 RBI, numbers much better than expected from the slick fielder.

    • Will Middlebrooks hit a three-run homer on Sunday but the Red Sox fell to the Orioles.
Advice: The seventh-inning shot over the right field fence at Camden Yards was Middlebrooks' first home runs since May 19. He's batting just .199 with a .232 OBP in 51 games this season but has the talent to turn it around quickly.

    • Indians recalled 3B Lonnie Chisenhall from Triple-A Columbus.
Advice: It's well deserved, as Chisenhall has been red-hot since his demotion last month, batting .390 with six home runs, 26 RBI, and a 1.132 OPS over 27 games. The 24-year-old has struggled at the major league level, but he should see regular playing time at third base in the short-term. Put him on your radar in deeper mixed leagues.

Advice: The homer was Encarnacion's 19th of the year and he's somewhat quietly driven in 58 runs. The first baseman is hitting .268/.352/.526 and is showing that his career year in 2012 wasn't a fluke.
