    • Chris Tillman allowed three runs on just five hits and a walk over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Advice: Tillman recorded four strikeouts. The right-hander put together his sixth straight quality start, but he was undone in this one by a pair of solo homers from Luke Scott and Matt Joyce. Tillman now sports a solid 3.52 ERA and 1.27 WHIP for the season and should remain in fantasy lineups for a matchup this weekend in Toronto.

    • Chris Tillman allowed just one run over seven innings Tuesday but the Orioles fell to the Padres.
Advice: Tillman was excellent, yielding only four hits and two walks while striking out seven. But closer Jim Johnson blew his first save of the season in the ninth inning. Tillman now has a 3.40 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 47 2/3 frames this season. He'll get the Yankees next.

    • Neftali Feliz (elbow) is long-tossing at 120 feet.
Advice: Feliz's rehab from Tommy John surgery is going fine, although it's not yet been announced when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. We expect him to return to a major league mound late in the summer.

    • Jordan Zimmermann took a tough-luck loss Saturday, giving up two runs -- one earned -- over eight innings against the Padres.
Advice: Zimmermann was as good as anticipated in PETCO, striking out six, walking none and scattering seven hits. One of the most underrated pitchers in the majors, Zimmermann is 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 45/9 K/BB rate in nine starts over 66 2/3 innings.

    • Jordan Zimmermann spun 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Nationals' victory over the Dodgers on Monday.
Advice: He gave up nine hits but no walks, striking out five. A second-round pick of the Nats in 2007, Zimmerman owns a sparkling 7-1 record and 1.69 ERA. The must-start mixed leaguer will put both on the line Saturday in San Diego. Although a level of regression is certain going forward, we like his chances to continue dominating this weekend.

    • Daniel Hudson (elbow) gave up two runs on five hits over four innings in an extended spring training game on Friday.
Advice: It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation.

    • Travis Wood allowed three earned runs over seven innings Sunday as the Cubs fell to the Brewers.
Advice: Wood was only decent, which was a disappointment considering how well he has pitched this season and how poor the Mets' lineup is. Wood gave up five hits and two walks, watching his ERA rise from 2.03 to 2.24 and his WHIP from 0.92 to 0.93. He'll try for better next time out against the Reds.

    • Roy Oswalt struck out nine while allowing only a bunt single over five innings in an extended spring training start on Saturday.
Advice: With the impressive performance, Oswalt will now be moved up to Double-A Tulsa for his next outing. He's expected to make 4-5 starts for Tulsa before the Rockies decide whether or not to call him up. It would be a surprise if he's not in their rotation next month.

    • If Roy Oswalt's extended spring training start on Saturday goes well, his next outing will come at Double-A Tulsa.
Advice: Oswalt threw 64 pitches in an extended spring game Tuesday and reportedly showed better command than he did in his first start. The veteran righty has been sitting in the low-90s with his fastball. As long as things progress on schedule, he should join the Rockies' rotation late this month or early June.

    • Aaron Harang (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday with no issues and is in line to start on Tuesday in Anaheim.
Advice: Harang missed his last outing with some minor back stiffness, but he's alright now. The big righty holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season but does boast a 23/5 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 frames.

    • The Mariners think Aaron Harang (back) will be ready to make his next start.
Advice: Harang was scratched from Thursday's outing due to a stiff lower back, but it appears that he's not going to need a DL stint unless he has a setback over the next few days. The big right-hander holds a 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over five starts this season.

    • Aaron Harang has been scratched from his start Thursday vs. the Yankees due to back stiffness.
Advice: Hector Noesi is filling in. The Mariners aren't sure yet whether Harang will need a stint on the 15-day disabled list. He has posted a hideous 7.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings (five starts) this season for Seattle.

    • Lucas Harrell allowed just one run over seven innings but the Astros lost to the Pirates on Sunday.
Advice: Harrell got exactly zero support from his offense and was handed his fifth loss despite pitching very well. He allowed just four hits -- one double and three singles -- while striking out three batters and walking only one. The right-hander will try to keep it rolling next week against the A's.

    • Lucas Harrell will move up in the rotation to start Sunday against the Pirates.
Advice: Bud Norris was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but he'll get some extra rest after he left a start earlier this week due to back spasms. Harrell has an ugly 5.11 ERA and 29/29 K/BB ratio in 49 1/3 innings through nine starts this season.

    • Lucas Harrell allowed five runs in five-plus innings as the Astros lost to the Tigers on Tuesday.
Advice: Harrell held the Tigers scoreless through the first four innings but allowed three in the fifth and two more in the sixth before he was removed. He was playing with fire all night, though, relying on two double plays and registering just one strikeout on the evening. Like all the other Astros pitchers, he should continue to be ignored in all formats. His next start will come Monday against the Royals.

    • James McDonald (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on May 27.
Advice: That's assuming he gets through bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday with no issues. McDonald is slated to go four innings and/or throw 65 pitches for Altoona, so he'll need at least one additional rehab start before being activated. He's not a given to rejoin the rotation once healthy.

    • James McDonald (shoulder) could throw off a mound next Tuesday.
Advice: McDonald has been throwing on flat ground with no issues. While he is coming along, he is still a long ways off from a return. With the Pirates having Gerrit Cole in the minors and other pitchers coming back from injury, it's possible McDonald won't have a rotation spot once healthy.

    • Felix Hernandez wasn't sharp Sunday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- over just five innings in a loss to the Indians.
Advice: King Kelix recorded eight strikeouts, but he allowed eight hits and walked a pair. The Mariners' ace left his last outing with a back issue, so it's possible it was an issue for him again today. As long as he's healthy, Hernandez is obviously a good bet to bounce back against the Rangers his next time out.

  • Wed, May 15
    • Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Felix Hernandez is "feeling good" a day after leaving his start against the Yankees early after tweaking his back
Advice: Hernandez tweaked his back while fielding a ground ball and turning and throwing to second base in the sixth. He would have come out for the seventh if not for the minor ailment. It's not expected to affect his next start, though. "He's good," Wedge said. "He said it was pretty sore this morning, but he feels good, and [trainer Rick Griffin] felt he got him in a good place after the game last night. He's feeling good today, so we should be fine."

    • Felix Hernandez struck out eight while tossing six innings of one-run ball but suffered a no-decision in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.
Advice: King Felix gave up just five hits and walked a pair. He had thrown 97 pitches and probably would have continued in the seventh inning if not for a minor back injury that he suffered in the sixth. It might have cost the M's a win, as the Yanks plated the tying and go-ahead runs in the seventh. Hernandez, who owns a 1.53 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, said after the game that his back is fine. He'll face the Indians Sunday.

    • Homer Bailey tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Phillies but the Reds lost late.
Advice: Aroldis Chapman blew the Reds' one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. Bailey did his part, yielding only five hits and a walk while fanning three batters. He now has a stellar 3.09 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 55/15 K/BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings this season and should keep cruising next time out against the light-hitting Cubs.

    • Homer Bailey pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in the Reds' 6-2 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.
Advice: Bailey limited the Marlins to six hits and no walks, throwing 88 of his 125 pitches for strikes. The Marlins lineup will make a Cy Young contender out of anyone, but Bailey is capable of pitching this well for sustained stretches as evidenced by his 3.68 ERA and 13 wins in 2012. He's now struck out 52 batters in 51 1/3 innings and should be a safe play in standard formats going forward. He'll get the Phillies his next time out.

    • Eric Stults held the Nationals to one run over eight innings to pick up a win Saturday and move to 4-3 on the season.
Advice: Stults has been great over his last four starts, lowering his ERA from 5.67 to 4.05. On Saturday, he struck out five, walked two and scattered four hits. Stults gets the Diamondbacks on Friday night.

    • Ricky Nolasco whiffed 11 batters while holding the Diamondbacks to one run over eight frames in Sunday's 2-1 win.
Advice: Nolasco came out for the ninth trying to finish off a shutout but was pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Didi Gregorius. The bullpen let the inherited runner score but eventually closed it out in nail-biting fashion. Nolasco has gone through his typical ups and downs but ultimately has pitched pretty well for the Fish, posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He'll face the White Sox next weekend.

  • Tue, May 14
    • Ricky Nolasco allowed six runs in five innings as the Marlins lost to the Reds on Tuesday.
Advice: Nolasco surrendered two bases-loaded walks in the second inning before Xavier Paul broke the game open with a base-clearing double to cap the Reds' scoring. He settled down after that, but the damage was already done. Like most Marlins pitchers, Nolasco won't get many wins and should be largely ignored in fantasy realms. Since he will continue to pitch in real life, though, his next start will come Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

    • Tim Lincecum's trip to Coors Field went sour Saturday night, as he allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings in a 10-2 loss.
Advice: Lincecum struck out four, walked two and surrendered a two-run homer to Wilin Rosario. The veteran has been all over the place this season, making him impossible to trust in fantasy. He's allowed no runs in three of his nine starts, but four or more in five of them. The inconsistency bears out in his numbers: Lincecum is 3-3 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

    • Ervin Santana notched another quality start on Saturday but took the loss in Kansas City's 2-1 setback in Oakland.
Advice: Santana spun seven innings of two-run ball, striking out five and allowing four hits and three walks. He didn't surrender a home run, which has been perhaps the biggest reason he's turned around his career in Kansas City. After leading the league in long-balls allowed in 2012 with 39, Santana has given up just six thus far; and three of those were in his season debut. The resurgent right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over eight starts.
