  • Mets call up Plawecki from Triple-A
Mets recalled C Kevin Plawecki from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The Mets opted to go with Anthony Recker as Travis d'Arnaud's backup last month, but Plawecki is back now that rosters have expanded. The 24-year-old is batting .228/.283/.296 with two home runs and 17 RBI over 62 games with the Mets this season. Today, 7:51 am
  • Cubs call up Trevor Cahill from Triple-A
Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Trevor Cahill from Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Cahill struck out seven and walked three over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Triple-A after signing with the Cubs last month. The 27-year-old has really struggled in the majors this season and will likely pitch in mop-up duty. Today, 7:36 am
  • Cubs call up INF Javier Baez from Triple-A
Cubs recalled INF Javier Baez from Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Baez has batted .324/.385/.527 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI, and 17 steals over 70 games in Triple-A this season and has been especially hot of late. Strikeouts were a major issue for him during his time with the Cubs last year, but it looks like he could get the opportunity to take over the second base job. He's worth a try in most mixed fantasy leagues. Today, 7:28 am
  • Gonzalez pitching at Triple-A on Tuesday
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez will start Tuesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Gonzalez has been limited to just four starts in the minors this season due to shoulder issues. This will be his first at the Triple-A level in 2015. He's still owed $4 million in 2016, but the signing has been a big bust so far. Today, 7:22 am
  • Rays recall RHP Yates from Triple-A
Rays recalled RHP Kirby Yates from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Another bullpen arm for the Rays. Yates has allowed home runs in each of his last five appearances in the majors and owns a 9.82 ERA over 11 innings overall. Today, 6:37 am
  • Rays recall LHP Moore from Triple-A
Rays recalled LHP Matt Moore from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Moore was demoted about a month ago after posting an 8.78 ERA over six starts in his return from Tommy John surgery. The results have been much better at the Triple-A level, with a 3.30 ERA and 43/8 K/BB ratio in 30 innings across five starts. He could rejoin the Rays' rotation this weekend against the Yankees. Today, 6:27 am
  • Rays recall OF Mahtook from Triple-A
Rays recalled OF Mikie Mahtook from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Mahtook, 25, has batted .189/.268/.459 with three home runs and six RBI in 42 plate appearances at the major league level this season. The 2011 first-rounder will provide some outfield depth down the stretch. Today, 6:22 am
  • Yanks call up RHP Andrew Bailey
Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Andrew Bailey from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: It's been a long road back for Bailey, who hasn't appeared in the majors since July 12, 2013 due to shoulder issues. Now 31 years old, the former All-Star and AL Rookie of the Year posted a 1.35 ERA and 30/9 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. It was enough to earn his way back to the big leagues. Today, 5:35 am
  • Posey collects 4 hits in Giants' 14-inn. loss
Buster Posey went 4-for-7 but the Giants were defeated in 14 innings by the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: All four hits were singles, but the Giants couldn't capitalize on any of them. Posey is batting a lusty .321/.377/.475 with 16 home runs and 80 RBI on the season. Today, 12:50 am
  • Peavy stumbles in the sixth in no-decision
Jake Peavy went 5 2/3 innings, yielding four runs in a no-decision as the Giants lost in 14 innings to the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: Peavy had limited the Dodgers to only one run through five innings, but served up a game-tying two-run home run to Adrian Gonzalez, then a go-ahead solo home run to Andre Ethier in the sixth. He was pulled with two outs in the frame. In total, he gave up six hits, walked none, and struck out four. Peavy has been solid in 11 starts since returning from the disabled list, posting a 3.80 ERA. He'll face the Rockies at Coors Field in his next outing. Today, 12:49 am
  • Canha homers, plates four as A's top Angels
Mark Canha went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI as the Athletics pounded their way to a win on Monday against the Angels.

  • Wallace adds pinch-hit RBI double in a win
Brett Wallace pinch-hit and delivered an RBI double in Monday's 7-0 victory against the Rangers.

Advice: The run didn't matter, as Wallace's RBI double made it a 7-0 game in the eighth inning, but it marked the fourth consecutive time Wallace has pinch-hit and gotten a hit. He's operated in almost purely a bench role for the Padres, but has compiled a terrific .347/.418/.612 triple-slash line with three home runs and 12 RBI. The Padres have control of Wallace for three more years, and his performance in the second half of this season could help his case for more playing time in the future. Yesterday, 10:10 pm
  • Lewis serves up six runs in loss to Padres
Colby Lewis lost to the Padres on Monday, serving up six runs (five earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

Advice: The Padres scored only twice through the first five innings, but they plated four runs in the sixth and chased Lewis from the game. Overall, the right-hander gave up seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out two on the evening. While 2015 has been an improvement on the previous season, his 4.50 ERA isn't too desirable. Lewis will look for better results in a road start versus the Angels. Yesterday, 10:06 pm
  • Blackmon has 3 hits, steals his 36th base
Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, and a stolen base in Monday's 5-4 walk-off victory against the Diamondbacks.

Baez sports a tidy .391 on base percentage in 328 plate appearances this year with 18 steals on 21 attempts. The former first-round pick should join the Cubs when rosters expand on Tuesday. Yesterday, 11:59 am
  • Matt Moore to rejoin Rays' rotation in Sept.
Matt Moore will rejoin the Rays' rotation when rosters expand in September.

Advice: Moore was awful in six starts with the big club but has rebounded at Triple-A Durham, posting a 3.30 ERA and 43/8 K/BB ratio over 30 innings. That includes a 16-strikeout game two starts ago. It's unclear who Moore will replace in the rotation, although he's on the same schedule as Erasmo Ramirez. "It seems Matt is in a really good place, and to his credit, he went down there and worked on some things we thought he needed to work on, and he also agreed,'' manager Kevin Cash said. • Baez in Cubs' first wave of September callups
According to Patrick Mooney of, infield prospect Javier Baez is expected to be in the Cubs' first wave of September callups.

Advice: And it seems very possible that he could position himself for regular starts at second base. Starlin Castro and Tommy La Stella have been playing there with Addison Russell recently taking over at shortstop. Baez, 22, is batting .316/.380/.530 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI, and 17 stolen bases in 67 games this season at the Triple-A level. He'll be worth trying out in most mixed fantasy leagues. Saturday, 4:25 pm
  • Buster Posey not in Giants lineup Saturday
Buster Posey is not in the Giants starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Posey was drilled by a pitch in his elbow last night, so it's not surprising to see him get a day of rest. Andrew Susac will start behind the dish and bat seventh for the Giants against Lance Lynn and the Cardinals. Saturday, 10:44 am
  • Charlie Blackmon not playing Friday
Charlie Blackmon is not in the Rockies' lineup Friday.

Advice: He's on the bench with the Pirates starting Francisco Liriano. Brandon Barnes is in center field in Blackmon's place. Friday, 12:35 pm
  • Peavy pitches into seventh in win over Cubs
Jake Peavy tossed a nice game in Wednesday's win over the Cubs, surrendering two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Advice: Peavy did walk three, but he was able to limit the damage the occasionally spotty control might have otherwise brought to his pitching line. Kris Bryant hit a shallow two-run single in the first inning to account for both runs against the 34-year-old right-hander. The owner of a 4.21 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, Peavy will dance with the Dodgers in a road start next time his number is called. Wednesday, 10:07 pm
  • Blackmon homers, but Rocks fall to Braves
Charlie Blackmon homered in a losing effort, finishing 2-for-4 against the Braves on Monday.

Advice: Blackmon gave the Rockies an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right field off of Julio Teheran, but the lead wouldn't last long. The homer extended the outfielder's hitting streak to 10 games. He's turned in a solid year for the woebegone Rockies, hitting .292/.356/.468 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, and 33 stolen bases. Monday, 7:11 pm
  • Cubs not considering Baez promotion yet
Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Monday that there are no immediate plans to promote Javier Baez.

Advice: Jorge Soler's oblique injury has opened some playing time at second base because Chris Coghlan will have to move back to the outfield, but Baez isn't being considered as an option yet. That could change when rosters expand on September 1. Baez, 22, is batting .304/.372/.518 with 12 home runs, 55 RBI, and 15 stolen bases in 62 games this season at the Triple-A level. Monday, 9:36 am
  • Canha clears bases with triple in seventh
Mark Canha was instrumental in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Rays, finishing 2-for-4 with a three-run triple and four total RBI.

Advice: Canha had an RBI single in the fourth, but the seventh would be where he truly shone. Stepping to the plate with the bases loaded, he lashed a three-run triple that turned a tight 4-2 game into a 7-2 breeze. With hits in nine of his last 10 games, he's worked his batting line toward respectability and is slashing .259/.316/.430 with 10 homers and 46 RBI on the year. Aug 23, 4:55 pm
