• Starts at third base
Reyes started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Reyes filled in for the injured Rafael Devers (knee) and committed a costly error that allowed one of three unearned runs to score. Reyes also couldn't get a ball out of his glove quick enough to start a 5-4-3 double, which scored another run. Per Ian Browne of MLB.com, the Red Sox are hoping to avoid having to put Devers on the injured list, which suggests a fill-in need for more than just Thursday's contest. Reyes and Bobby Dalbec are the primary candidates to play third base should Devers need an stint on the IL. Rotowire.com Today, 6:55 am

  • Makes rare start
Peterson started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 5-0 loss to the Giants.

Advice: Peterson, who extended a hitless run to 18 at-bats, made just his fourth start of the season. The lack of opportunities may explain his .045 batting average. At the time of shortstop Geraldo Perdomo's knee injury earlier this month, the lefty-hitting Peterson was in position to fill a strong side of a platoon but that never materialized. Both Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander continue to get work against right-handers. Rotowire.com Today, 5:58 am
  • Ketel Marte stays hot Thursday in loss to Giants
Ketel Marte singled on Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ loss to the Giants.

Advice: Marte led off the contest with a single back up the middle off Giants starter Logan Webb. He’s been on an absolute tear of late with eight hits in 14 at-bats over his last three contests. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:58 pm
  • Orelvis Martinez stays hot with solo homer at AAA
Blue Jays INF prospect Orelvis Martinez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Martinez is off to a hot start so far, batting .305 (18-for-59) with three homers and 11 RBI through 15 games. Perhaps the most impressive element of his early-season performance is that he’s cut back on the strikeouts, fanning just 13 times in 64 plate appearances. If he’s able to sustain this run, he could finally make his Toronto debut at some point in the near future. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:20 pm

  • Shuttled to Las Vegas
Hernaiz was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hernaiz had started seven of the last eight games for the Athletics, though he went just 3-for-20 with six strikeouts in that span. It's very likely that he'll be back in the majors at some point in 2024, though there's no indication of how long the team plans to keep him in the minors. The move should give Nick Allen the starting job at shortstop while creating a roster spot for Brent Rooker (ribs) to be activated off the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 pm

  • A’s option struggling Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A
Athletics optioned SS Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: There isn’t exactly a starting spot for Hernaiz in the majors with Nick Allen finally back to full strength, so he’s headed back to the minors to continue playing everyday ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Guardians. The 22-year-old prospect was batting .103 (3-for-29) with two RBI in 17 games for Oakland in his first taste of the big leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:05 pm

  • Homer, three hits in win
Semien went 3-for-6 with a solo homer, a double and an additional run scored in Thursday's 9-7 victory over Detroit.

Advice: Semien led off the afternoon with a homer off Kenta Maeda, his third longball of the year, before adding two more hits later in the contest as he wound up a triple shy of a cycle. The 33-year-old Semien has gotten off to another strong start this season while serving as Texas' primary leadoff man, slashing .286/.355/.464 with 17 RBI and 16 runs scored through his first 93 plate appearances. • Optioned to Iowa
The Cubs optioned Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Mastrobuoni was able to crack the Opening Day roster with Patrick Wisdom on the injured list before the season began. He appeared in just eight games and only reached base once on a walk across 13 plate appearances. In a corresponding move, Patrick Wisdom was activated from the 10-day injured list. • Cubs option Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A
Cubs optioned INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Mastrobuoni has been shipped back to the minors with Patrick Wisdom returning from the injured list to take his spot on Chicago’s bench. The 28-year-old’s defensive versatility is a nice feature for the Cubs, but he’s gone 0-for-12 at the dish this season, and is a career .217 hitter in the majors. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:42 pm
