• A’s option struggling Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A
Athletics optioned SS Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: There isn’t exactly a starting spot for Hernaiz in the majors with Nick Allen finally back to full strength, so he’s headed back to the minors to continue playing everyday ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Guardians. The 22-year-old prospect was batting .103 (3-for-29) with two RBI in 17 games for Oakland in his first taste of the big leagues. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

  • Doubles twice in loss
Baez went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 9-7 loss to the Rangers.

Advice: The doubles were Baez's first of the season, and he's still sitting on just one home run across 17 games. The shortstop isn't hitting a ton of singles either, as he's batting just .172. While he's shown an ability in the past to heat up quickly, his struggles the past few seasons don't instill a ton of confidence. Baez should continue to see regular playing time, however, giving him an opportunity to turn things around. Rotowire.com Today, 5:00 pm

  • Heads to bench in series opener
Alexander is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Alexander will take a seat for the series opener as the Giants bring ace right-hander Logan Webb to the hill. While the rookie still looks to be the Diamondbacks' preferred option at shortstop while Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is on the shelf, Alexander might have a shorter leash than anticipated while he's experienced some early hiccups defensively. Jace Peterson will cover shortstop Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:42 pm

  • Javier Báez doubles twice in loss to Rangers
Javier Báez doubled twice while going 2-for-4 with an RBI in a loss Thursday to the Rangers.

Advice: Báez doubled in a run in the second inning to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. The 31-year-old veteran got off to a dreadful start, but he’s picked up hits in four of his last five games while seeing his average raise from .125 to .174 over the last seven contests. That’s still not ideal, but it’s at least encouraging to see Báez not look like a lost cause over the past week. Rotoworld Today, 1:21 pm

  • Amed Rosario triples in victory over Angels
Amed Rosario went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI against the Angels on Thursday.

Advice: Rosario plated Richie Palacios with his triple in the first inning off Griffin Canning to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 cushion. The three-bagger cames a day after Rosario blasted a two-run homer, and the former top prospect has been swinging the bat well to begin the 2024 campaign as seen in his .339 average and .532 slugging mark. Rosario has been streaky throughout his career, and he appears to be on the right side of that line to begin 2024. Rotoworld Today, 12:37 pm

  • Yankees designate Kevin Smith for assignment
Yankees designated INF Kevin Smith for assignment.

Advice: Smith has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster to make room for recently-added Taylor Trammell just a few days after joining the Yankees’ active roster to replace the injured Jon Berti. The 27-year-old infielder spent the past two seasons with Oakland where he slashed .182/.218/.314 across 297 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 12:34 pm

  • Pushed off 40-man
The Yankees designated Smith for assignment Thursday.

Advice: Smith was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, but the Yankees claiming Taylor Trammell off waivers from the Dodgers will leave Smith without a 40-man roster spot once again. The 27-year-old never appeared at the plate during his brief stint in New York, and a .516 OPS throughout his MLB career makes it likely he passes through waivers unclaimed. • Notches fourth steal
Witt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Witt also went 1-for-4 in the nightcap. He's hit safely in five of the last seven games, batting .333 (10-for-30) in that span. The shortstop is off to another strong start in 2024 with a .321/.369/.628 slash line, four home runs, four steals, eight RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles and three triples across 84 plate appearances. He's also striking out at a 22.6 percent clip, a bit higher than the 17.4 percent mark he had last year, but that's a fair trade-off for more contact. Rotowire.com Today, 10:35 am
  • Keeps slugging Wednesday
Henderson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Henderson has six homers on the year, including one in each of the last three games. He's also posted four straight multi-hit efforts. The shortstop is thriving as the leadoff hitter in a strong offense, slashing .288/.346/.603 with four stolen bases, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored through 18 contests overall. Rotowire.com Today, 10:14 am
