    • Set for bullpen session Saturday
Pivetta (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Pivetta will play catch from 120 feet Thursday, and if all goes well, he'll take a big step forward in his recovery from a right elbow strain by getting back on the mound this weekend. The right-hander will likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions before he's cleared to face hitters in live batting practice. After that, Pivetta will likely require a brief minor-league rehab assignment to get stretched back out, so he could be hard pressed to make it back from the injured list in the minimum 15 days. A return in the first or second week of May could be realistic, provided Pivetta avoids any setbacks while ramping back up. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am

    • First day off Thursday
Kwan is out of the lineup for Thursday's contest in Boston.

Advice: Kwan will get his first day off of the season. David Fry will start in left field in place of Kwan, while Andres Gimenez serves as Cleveland's leadoff batter. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:36 am

    • Not on mound yet
Pivetta (elbow) continues to play catch but hasn't yet advanced to mound work, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Pivetta was placed on the 15-day injured list and is first eligible to return Sunday, but he's not yet ready to help a Red Sox rotation that has been hit by the injury bug of late, as Garrett Whitlock (oblique) joined him on the IL this week. It's likely Pivetta will need at least one rehab start before rejoining the club. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:15 am

    • Blows save, takes loss
Fairbanks (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over one inning against the Angels. He didn't generate a strikeout.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the ninth frame with a one-run advantage but was unable to come away with his fourth save of the campaign. Instead, he surrendered a pair of runs before ultimately stranding a pair of Angels in scoring position by getting Logan O'Hoppe to fly out and end the inning. Fairbanks has endured a shaky start to 2024, having given up a run in five of his eight appearances. However, Wednesday's outing marked his first blown save of the season. • Pete Fairbanks blows save, takes loss vs. Angels
Pete Fairbanks allowed two runs in the ninth inning to blow the save and take the loss against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Fairbanks was summoned in the ninth with a one-run lead to close it out. He allowed two runs to score on three base hits and two walks before getting out of the inning. The Angels would secure the win in the bottom of the frame, charging Fairbanks with his second loss of the season. The 30-year-old right-hander had converted all three of his previous save chances. He’ll have some work to do to lower his 9.00 ERA over seven innings of work. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:41 pm
    • Gets aboard four times
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Kwan is batting .400 (14-for-35) during his active eight-game hitting streak. He continues to put the ball in play with great success, batting .372 over 17 contests this season. He's added two home runs, five RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base. Kwan can still chip in a bit more with speed, but he's doing everything else right from atop the Guardians' order. • Striking out at prolific rate
Siri went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts Tuesday against the Angels.

Advice: Siri stated that he wanted to be more aggressive on the basepaths this season, and he began the year by swiping six bags across his first nine games. However, that production has slowed considerably since, as he has attempted only one stolen base in his last nine contests while striking out 48.5 percent of the time. For the season, Siri has a 40.5 percent strikeout rate, which could create playing-time concerns once Josh Lowe (oblique) and Jonny DeLuca (hand) return. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:39 am

    • Nabs majors' first five-hit game
Betts went 5-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs Tuesday in the Dodgers' 6-2 win over the Nationals.

Advice: Betts produced the majors' first five-hit game of the season Tuesday and matched his previous career high for hits in a game, raising his batting average to an MLB-best .388 in the process. Though the Dodgers' 12-8 start to the season is somewhat disappointing given the immense talent on the roster, Betts and Shohei Ohtani (1.019 OPS) are doing their part in the top two spots in the lineup. Betts has still been able to rack up 22 runs and 18 RBI through 20 games, even while No. 3 hitter Freddie Freeman (.788 OPS) has yet to really get going at the plate. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:16 am

    • Fans eight in quality start
Civale came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Angels, giving up three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander tossed 65 of 101 pitches for strikes and generated 31 called or swinging strikes, but homers by Mickey Moniak and Logan O'Hoppe in the fourth inning had Civale in line for his second loss of the year until the Rays rallied in the ninth inning, eventually winning in the 13th. Civale has delivered three quality starts in his first four trips to the mound this season, and he'll carry a 2.74 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB through 23 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend against the Yankees.
