    • Oneil Cruz homers, Bucs outlast Fish in marathon
Oneil Cruz clobbered a solo homer on Thursday, leading the Pirates to a 6-5 extra-inning Opening Day victory over the Marlins.

Advice: Pittsburgh emerged victorious in a 12-inning Opening Day marathon that took nearly four hours to complete. Cruz’s torrid spring training performance carried over into this one as he launched a game-tying eighth-inning solo shot to left-center field off Marlins reliever Sixto Sánchez. The 25-year-old shortstop batted sixth in this one, which is pretty surprising, and seems unlikely to continue for very long. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

    • Mitch Keller struggles in no-decision vs. Marlins
Mitch Keller was charged with five runs (four earned) over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Keller was touched up for seven hits, but managed to keep the ball in the yard, which was enough to give the Pirates’ bullpen a shot in an eventual extra-inning marathon win. He finished with just three strikeouts and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll face off against the Nationals on Tuesday in a road matchup. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

    • Rough start to season
Mikolas (0-1) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: The Dodgers jumped out to a quick lead on Mikolas, scoring twice in the first inning before the 35-year-old right-hander allowed three more runs on a pair of homers in the third. It's certainly not the start to the season Mikolas wanted after he struggled to a 9-13 record with a 4.78 ERA across 35 starts last year. He'll look to get on track in his next outing, tentatively lined up for early next week in San Diego. Rotowire.com Today, 4:27 pm

    • Miles Mikolas surrenders five runs in defeat
Miles Mikolas was tagged for five runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Dodgers in a loss Thursday.

Advice: Mikolas surrendered a pair of homers in an outing that fit right in with many of his 2023 performances. The right-hander gave up at least five runs on 12 occasions last year. Only Jordan Lyles, with 14, had more such outings. Rotoworld Today, 4:06 pm

    • New ace: Burnes strikes out 11 in win over Angels
Corbin Burnes dominated in his Orioles’ debut on Thursday, spinning six innings of one-run ball with 11 strikeouts as Baltimore trounced the Angels 11-3 on Opening Day.

Advice: You couldn’t have asked for much more than that. Burnes actually gave up a first-inning homer to Mike Trout, but it turned out to be the only hit he allowed on the day. He also didn’t walk a batter. In fact, Burnes retired the final 16 batters he faced before being pulled at 82 pitches. His 11 strikeouts were the most by an Orioles pitcher on Opening Day since Mike Mussina in 1998. With a pitcher-friendly home stadium and a great lineup backing him, Burnes is poised for a monster season as the O’s new ace. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Jarren Duran leading off on Opening Day vs. M’s
Jarren Duran is in left field and leading off for Thursday’s Opening Day matchup against the Mariners.

Advice: No real surprises for Boston as they take on Mariners ace Luis Castillo to open the season in Seattle. Here’s the full lineup: Duran LF, Rafael Devers 3B, Trevor Story SS, Triston Casas 1B, Tyler O’Neill RF, Masataka Yoshida DH, Ceddanne Rafaela CF, Enmanuel Valdez 2B and Connor Wong C. • In DH spot for opener
Morel is starting at designated hitter and batting cleanup for Thursday's opener versus the Rangers.

Advice: The Cubs gave Morel plenty of run at third base this spring in hopes that he would capture that job. While he still figures to be used plenty at the hot corner, it displays some lack of trust in Morel's defense on manager Craig Counsell's part that he's not playing the field Opening Day. Fantasy managers mostly care that he's just in the lineup, of course, and that he's hitting cleanup shows the faith in his bat. Rotowire.com Today, 1:49 pm
    • D-backs place Paul Sewald (oblique) on 15-day IL
Diamondbacks placed RHP Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with a left oblique strain.

Advice: It’ll most likely be Kevin Ginkel handling the save chances for Arizona with Sewald sidelined to open the season with a Grade 2 left oblique strain. There isn’t a firm timetable yet for his potential return, but fantasy managers should expect him to miss at least a few weeks. Rotoworld Today, 1:25 pm

    • Batting sixth against left-hander
Cruz is starting at shortstop and batting sixth in Thursday's opener in Miami.

Advice: Cruz was a fixture atop the Pirates' batting order this spring when he walloped seven Grapefruit League home runs. However, with left-hander Jesus Luzardo on the bump for the Marlins, he'll slide down to the six spot for Opening Day while Connor Joe bats leadoff. Cruz should be the regular leadoff man against right-handers. Rotowire.com Today, 10:50 am
