    • A’s activate Lucas Erceg from IL
Athletics activated RHP Lucas Erceg from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Erceg missed the minimum with the oft-dreaded forearm strain. He should reemerge as the top setup man to Mason Miller, but from the sound of things, he’s more likely than Miller to get moved before the trade deadline. Rotoworld Today, 10:30 am
    • A’s return Michel Otañez to Triple-A
Athletics optioned RHP Michel Otañez to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Otañez made one appearance for the A’s, getting two outs without allowing a run in his major league debut Monday. Rotoworld Today, 10:29 am
    • Sent back to minors
The Athletics optioned Otanez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Otanez allowed one hit and one walk while retiring two batters in his lone appearance with the Athletics during his brief time in the majors. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by right-hander Lucas Erceg (forearm), who was activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 10:13 am
    • Finds work in Milwaukee
Kuhnel signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday.

Advice: Kuhnel was assigned to Triple-A Nashville after signing with Milwaukee, and the affiliate wasted little time in putting him to work. He appeared out of the bullpen Tuesday in Nashville's 13-9 loss to Gwinnett, covering one inning and striking out two while allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk. Prior to joining Milwaukee, Kuhnel spent time in the big leagues this season with Houston, giving up four earned runs over two innings in his lone relief appearance. • Returns from stint on IL
The Athletics activated Erceg (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Erceg spent the minimum amount of time on the IL and was able to skip a rehab assignment prior to being activated. He's been terrific in relief for Oakland this season, collecting a 2.86 ERA and 27:8 K:BB across 22 innings as the primary setup man ahead of closer Mason Miller. Rotowire.com Today, 10:11 am
    • Throws off mound
Stewart (shoulder) threw five pitches off the mound Wednesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Stewart threw off the bump for the first time since he went down with right shoulder tendinitis more than a month ago. He'll need to continue going through a ramp-up progression and will likely require at least a rehab appearance or two before returning from the 15-day injured list and slotting back into a setup role for the Twins. • Twins waive RHP Diego Castillo
Twins designated RHP Diego Castillo for assignment.

Advice: It’s been a wild fall for the 30-year-old Castillo, who struggled in 2023 with the Mariners but had posted ERAs of 2.78 and 3.64 in 2021 and 2022 in 58 1/3 innings and 54 1/3 innings respectively. He also had 23 combined saves in those two seasons and still has a 3.20 career ERA in 275 1/3 innings. With his fastball velocity back up around 96 mph, some team is likely to take a chance on Castillo. Rotoworld Today, 9:15 am
    • Twins recalled reliever Jackson from minors
Twins selected the contract of RHP Jay Jackson from Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Jackson returns to a 6.85 ERA in 22 1/3 innings for the Twins this year. However, the 36-year-old was tremendous for the Blue Jays last year, posting a 2.12 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and a 27/9 K/BB ratio over his 29 2/3 innings. The Twins will hope he can recapture some of that form. Louie Varland was sent down in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 9:11 am
    • Hit with first loss Tuesday
Alexander (0-1) took the loss against the Padres on Tuesday, allowing an earned run on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: Unfortunately for Alexander, the one hit he allowed was a walk-off solo home run to Kyle Higashioka, saddling the veteran southpaw with his first loss of the season. Alexander has now allowed an earned run in each of his last two appearances after generating four consecutive scoreless efforts of an inning apiece, but he's still carrying an acceptable 4.00 ERA and stellar 0.67 WHIP across the nine innings covering his 10 appearances.
