    • Joe Ryan strikes out nine in win over Royals
      Joe Ryan recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Royals.

      Advice: Ryan authored yet another stellar performance on Monday afternoon at Target Field, carrying a shutout into the sixth inning before Kansas City finally broke through courtesy of a two-out RBI single from Vinnie Pasquantino. It was his highest single-start strikeout total since a 12-punchout performance back on April 13 against the Tigers as he induced 15 swinging strikes, including 11 on his fastball, and finished with a robust 33 percent CSW. He’s rapidly cementing his status as an upper-echelon fantasy contributor, having allowed three earned runs or fewer in 10 of his 11 starts at the outset of the season.       Buehler (1-2) took the loss to the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Buehler didn't have his best stuff in this one, as evidenced by the fact that he induced only six swings and misses on 91 pitches and also served up a pair of solo homers. It was a step backward from his previous outing, but this was just his third start back from Tommy John surgery, and ups and downs are to be expected after the long layoff.       Walker Buehler suffered his second defeat of the season on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings against the Reds in Cincinnati.

      Advice: Buehler punched out four batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. His trouble in this one stemmed from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, as Spencer Steer slugged a solo homer in the first inning and Will Benson blasted another in the second. The 29-year-old hurler got six swings and misses on 91 pitches on the evening — three of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 27 percent.       Gausman (3-3) picked up the win over the Tigers on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 over six innings.

      Advice: Gausman had his best stuff of the year Thursday, striking out a season-high 10 batters while not allowing a hit until the sixth inning when Javier Baez tagged him for a leadoff single. The right-hander induced 18 whiffs on the night and struck out at least two batters in three different innings.     • Gausman strikes out 10 in win Thursday
      Kevin Gausman allowed one run and struck out 10 in six innings and picked up the win in the Blue Jays’ 9-1 victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

      Advice: Gausman’s 10 strikeouts were a season-high. The win was his third in 10 starts this season. He allowed just three hits and two walks against the hapless Tigers offense. The 33-year-old right-hander is set to face the White Sox on the road next week. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:20 pm
       
    • Tigers option reliever Alex Lange to minors
      Tigers optioned RHP Alex Lange to Triple-A Toledo.

      Advice: Lange was publicly chewed out by his manager A.J. Hinch on the mound during Wednesday’s game and despite Hinch claiming that had nothing to do with the demotion, we find that hard to believe. Going into Wednesday’s game, Lange had allowed just four earned runs in his previous 14 appearances. His command will certainly come and go, and it had been poor in the last three appearances, but the 28-year-old only has two bad outings all season. This feels like a situation that is heading for a break-up and if Lange is able to find his way onto a team that can improve his command, he still has a future as a solid reliever.       The Tigers optioned Lange to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

      Advice: A day after allowing four earned runs in one inning during Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Lange will be sent to Triple-A in order to get back on track. The 28-year-old owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.77 WHIP alongside a 21:17 K:BB through 18.2 innings this season, and he figures to return to Detroit's bullpen once he starts turning in promising results with Toledo.
