• Back behind plate
Grandal (foot) has started two games at catcher during his current rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Grandal has been dealing with a foot injury since early March and began a rehab assignment April 16. Since, he's started two games behind the plate while serving as the designated hitter in an additional contest. He has one hit across eight at-bats, though the Pirates are more likely concerned about his recovery continuing to progress. Rotowire.com 1 minute ago

  • Strikes out nine in no-decision
Yamamoto did not factor into the decision Friday against the Mets, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: Friday night was mixed with ups and downs for Yamamoto. On one hand, he managed to strike out a season-best nine batters; however, he also allowed a season-worst seven hits. After five starts, Yamamoto now sports a 4.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 30:5 K:BB over 22 innings. His next start is slated to come against the Nationals on the road. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago

  • Solid in no-decision
Manaea did not factor into the decision Friday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: After allowing six earned runs to the Royals in his last start, Manaea pitched well Friday night against the dangerous Dodgers lineup. The Mets lefty managed to stifle the MVP trio of Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, as they collectively went 1-for-8 with one walk and two strikeouts. Manaea faces a much less daunting task in his next start, scheduled to be against the Giants on the road. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Suffers setback
Borucki (triceps) felt soreness after playing catch last week and hopes to resume throwing in the next few days, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Borucki was placed on the injured list April 7 and was not shut down for long. However, he remains without a timeline to return, and it's unclear whether he may need a rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Plays nine innings in rehab game
Lowe (oblique) played nine innings in center field and went 0-for-3 with a walk during a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Friday.

Advice: Lowe was originally set to begin his rehab assignment Thursday, but the game was rained out. Perhaps most notable about his initial appearance was his defensive position, as he's primarily played in right field in the majors. However, with Jose Siri struggling early, the team could opt to replace him with Lowe and rely on a combination of Richie Palacios and Amed Rosario in right field. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Undergoing MRI on thumb
Alvarez is getting an MRI on his left thumb after leaving Friday's game against the Dodgers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. "I'm pretty concerned. I'm not going to lie," manager Carlos Mendoza said.

Advice: Alvarez injured his thumb in the second inning as he planted his left hand into the ground, after stumbling on his turn to second base. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com notes that Alvarez's left thumb "has taken a beating lately," and it sounds like Mendoza is resigned to being without his starting backstop for a stretch given how much pain Alvarez was in. Omar Narvaez is the only other catcher currently on the Mets' 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Posts four hits
Marte went 4-for-6 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Marte led the Diamondbacks offense to a monster night with his four-hit performance as the team scored 17 runs. This is the second baseman's first four-hit effort since Sept. 19, 2023, which also came against San Francisco. Marte has been scorching hot to start the season, slashing .345/.392/.598 with five home runs, 12 RBI and 21 runs scored over 97 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Smacks first grand slam
Alexander went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Alexander enjoyed the best game of his young career Friday night, driving in five RBI and hitting his first grand slam in the eighth inning. The 24-year-old rookie has filled in admirably since Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the injured list April 4. Alexander is slashing .340/.404/.596 with three home runs and 12 RBI over his first 52 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Victorious in Arizona debut
Montgomery (1-0) earned the win Friday, allowing one run, four hits and no walks over six innings against the Giants. He struck out three.

Advice: Montgomery looked sharp in his season debut, stifling the Giants all night and allowing just four baserunners. The left-hander wasn't even at his peak as his fastball velocity averaged 93.3 mph, down 1.7 mph from last year's average. However, given that Montgomery signed with Arizona on March 29, he still has some work to get into midseason form. His next start is scheduled to be at home against his former team, the Cardinals.
