  • Rougned Odor homers, plates three in loss
Rougned Odor continue his hot-hitting in Sunday's loss to the Angels, going 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBI.

Advice: All of his damage came long after the outcome of the game had been decided. His two-run blast off Trevor Gott in the seventh inning closed the deficit to 12-5, and he added a sacrifice fly in the final frame. Since returning from Triple-A, he's hitting a blistering .365 (23-for-63) with three homers, 13 RBI and four stolen bases in 18 games.

  • Cano (ankle) expects to be fine on Monday
Robinson Cano expects to be in the Mariners lineup on Monday after getting hit by a pitch on his ankle in Sunday's game.

Advice: There's still a chance that his ankle could swell on the trip back to Seattle, or the Mariners could give him a day to rest as a precaution, but expect to see him in the M's lineup for Monday's series opener against the Tigers.

Joe Frisaro of reports that the Marlins will recall Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: He'll take the spot of Marcell Ozuna on the Marlins active roster after the outfielder was demoted on Sunday. Valdespin was pulled from his game at Triple-A shortly afterwards and is heading to join the team in Boston for Tuesday's game, though the move hasn't been announced yet.

  • Flores stays hot with four hits, three RBI
Wilmer Flores posted his third straight game with three-plus hits in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Dodgers, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.

Advice: The way he's going, Flores is probably dreading the All-Star Break. He hit an RBI single in the first inning against Mets starter Mike Bolsinger, then followed it up with a run-scoring infield single in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Flores is 11 for his last 16 and has recorded three or more hits in each of his last three games. Overall, he's hitting .258/.289/.412 with 10 homers, 38 RBI and 31 runs scored.

  • Valbuena has been bothered by toe injury
Astros manager A.J. Hinch admitted Sunday that Luis Valbuena has been bothered by an injury to the big toe on his left foot.

Advice: Valbuena has been able to play through the injury, but has apparently done so in some degree of pain. The 29-year-old has slugged 19 home runs and driven in 36 runs on the season, despite hitting .203/.286/.438.

  • Yoan Moncada slowly heating up for Greenville
Red Sox 2B prospect Yoan Moncada contributed two hits Saturday for Low-A Greenville.

Advice: That gives Moncada four two-hit games in his last nine contests. Over that span, he's hit .314 with two RBI. The 20-year-old has only managed a .234 average in his first 34 minor league games, but he already has 10 steals without getting caught. He joined the Red Sox in March and received a $31.5 million signing bonus.

  • Hernandez steals 2 bases, extends hit streak
Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases as the Phillies won in 10 innings against the Braves on Sunday.

Advice: Hernandez is on a 10-game hitting streak now, with six of those games featuring multiple hits. He singled in the 10th inning to help the Phillies break a scoreless tie. The pair of stolen bases brings him up to 11 in 14 attempts on the season. There's no way his .299/.385/.385 line is sustainable as he has a .556 BABIP since June 22, but he'll get playing time and stolen base opportunities while he's hot so he has fantasy utility for the time being.

  • Travis knocks in three runs in a Jays win
Devon Travis went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and three RBI as the Blue Jays topped the Tigers on Sunday.

Advice: Travis doubled in the first of six runs the Jays scored in the fifth inning against Justin Verlander. He added an RBI single in the seventh and a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Travis has hit safely in eight of nine games since returning from the disabled list, including seven games in a row now. In 180 plate appearances this season, he's batting .297/.350/.503 with seven home runs and 31 RBI.

  • D.J. LeMahieu goes 3-for-4
D.J. LeMahieu broke out of a slump with a 3-for-4 game Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: LeMahieu hadn't had a multihit game since June 11, even though he's been batting second and usually getting five plate appearances per game. His average, which stood at .351 on June 11, entered tonight at .293, but it's back up to .300 now. He's not a bad option in mixed leagues for as long as he bats second, but he'll probably end up back at the bottom of the order at some point.

  • Flores singles three times in loss to Dodgers
Wilmer Flores went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Flores knocked in a run with a single in the eighth inning. He's been absolutely sizzling this holiday weekend, with seven hits in his last 11 at-bats and back-to-back three-hit games. His recent hot stretch is not indicative of how he's been hitting all season, as he's slashing .248/.280/.398 with 10 homers and 35 RBI. The power and run-production are swell enough, but the average could use some work.

  • Gordon swipes 29th bag in loss to Cubs
Dee Gordon went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and his 29th stolen base of the season in Saturday's loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Gordon scored both of the Marlins' runs in the game. He's touched home plate 43 times this season and is slashing an impressive .344/.364/.423 with 29 steals. He swiped 64 bags for the Dodgers a year ago, a number that he's certainly capable of challenging with his new team.

  • Delino Deshields close to returning from DL
Delino Deshields (hamstring) will be reevaluated after Saturday's workout.

Advice: Deshields recently wrapped up a six-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock and is close to 100 percent. He should be activated from the disabled list in the next day or two. Texas has a crowded outfield now with Josh Hamilton, Leonys Martin and Shin-Soo Choo all seeing regular at-bats. Deshields had 13 steals in 48 games before his injury.

  • Valbuena has RBI single Saturday vs. Red Sox
Luis Valbuena went 2-for-4 with RBI single Saturday against the Red Sox.

Advice: His RBI single in the ninth was the Astros' only offense of the day against Clay Buchholz. Through three months, Valbuena has had one of the strangest seasons to date. While he has 19 home runs and 36 RBI on the year, he's batting just .201 with a .281 on-base percentage. He could be pushed into a part-time role when Jed Lowrie is ready to come off the disabled list.

  • Wilmer Flores goes 3-for-4 in Mets' win
Wilmer Flores went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Mets beat the Dodgers 2-1 on Friday.

Advice: Flores singled in the Mets' first run in the fourth and collected an infield single during the ninth-inning rally that decided the game. The three hits match his total from his previous six starts combined. He does have 10 homers this season, but getting on base just hasn't been a strength for him.

  • Wong struggles in 0-for-4 game
Kolten Wong couldn't find any traction against the Padres on Friday, finishing the game 0-for-4.

Advice: Wong struggled on Friday, but it's not indicative of what he's done on the whole this season. His triple-slash of .283/.341/.451 stands in the upper tier of his position offensively and he's hit nine homers while driving in 36 runs and scoring 42. At just 24 years of age, there's still room for offensive improvement here.

  • Hernandez drives in lone run in loss to ATL
Cesar Hernandez went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Friday's loss to the Braves.

Advice: Hernandez's RBI single off Julio Teheran in the fourth inning would score the only run that the Phillies managed in the game. While his power is almost non-existent, he should continue to see at-bats as long as he's able to keep up the average portion of his .285/.374/.376 slash-line.

  • Gordon hits inside-the-park homer, Fish win
Dee Gordon hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run to help the Marlins best the Giants 5-3 on Tuesday.

Advice: With two on in the second inning, Gordon lifted a ball to the right-center gap that rolled. Right fielder Gregor Blanco's misplay allowed the speedy Gordon to race around and score on the hit. Gordon finished with just the one hit in five at-bats. Through Tuesday's game, Gordon is hitting .351/.370/.429 with the one home run, 40 runs scored and 26 stolen bases.

  • Hernandez to get a chance to stick at 2B?
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin said Tuesday that he "would like to think that Cesar (Hernandez) has proven that he deserves a chance to be the everyday second baseman."

Advice: Hernandez, 25, entered Tuesday batting .277/.365/.365 on the season and .328/.394/.406 in June. Chase Utley, meanwhile, is on the disabled list with an ankle injury and sports an ugly .179/.257/.275 line this season. It's hard to believe the Phils would bench Utley even given his struggles, and Mackanin did note that he didn't "want to get ahead of myself." However, if Hernandez keeps performing, it's possible. Notable is that the Phillies have a $15 million club option for 2016 on Utley that automatically vests if he reaches 500 plate appearances.

  • Hernandez stays hot with 2 more hits in loss
Cesar Hernandez's bat continued to stay hot as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run, and a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Fresh off a four-hit performance on Sunday, Hernandez logged his fifth multi-hit performance in seven games on Monday. He knocked in the Phillies' first run in the first inning with an infield single and later came around to score on a balk. Hernandez is batting .277/.365/.365 with 25 runs scored, 16 RBI, and seven stolen bases and is now getting regular at-bats while Chase Utley is sidelined. It's not known yet when Utley returns, so those in daily leagues might find utility in Hernandez as a cheap source of stolen bases.

The Mets plan to use Wilmer Flores at second base when Daniel Murphy returns from the disabled list.

Advice: Flores had been splitting time with Ruben Tejada at shortstop. Now he'll move to second with Murphy taking over at third base. Murphy could even see time at first when Lucas Duda needs a day off. Light-hitting second baseman Dilson Herrera appears to be the odd man out.

  • Hernandez's four-hit day contributes to a win
Cesar Hernandez singled four times in as many at-bats, helping the Phillies in a win over the Nationals in the back end of Sunday's doubleheader.

Advice: It's the second four-hit game of Hernandez's career, with the other occuring on September 28, 2013. The Phillies, despite scoring eight runs, only brought him home once, at the end of their four-run second inning. Hernandez has been hitting well as of late, logging multi-hit efforts in three of his last five games. With Chase Utley on the shelf, he should be a regular in the lineup. He's hitting .271/.361/.361 in 163 plate appearances.

  • Matt Duffy homers, triples in win
Matt Duffy went 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple, a double and three runs scored Sunday against the Rockies.

Advice: Duffy missed a cycle by a triple on Saturday. Today, he missed it by the single. He's hit .385 with four homers in 10 games against the Rockies this season and .285 with four homers in 54 games against everyone else. It's hard to imagine him remaining useful in mixed leagues now that the Giants are done with the Rockies until September. Still, he just loves defying expectations.

Rougned Odor went 3-for-5 at the plate in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: One of the hits was a double to lead off the ninth inning, but Odor was stranded as the Rangers fell by one. The young infielder now has three three-hit games this month since being recalled and is batting .395 overall in June with four stolen bases. He shouldn't be unowned in your league at this point, but if he is, correct that situation now.

Robinson Cano is day-to-day with a bruised forehead.

Advice: The injury occurred when Cano got hit by an errant throw from Angels shortstop Taylor Featherston between innings. Cano passed his concussion test and most of the swelling has already gone down. Expect the six-time All-Star to be back in the lineup on Sunday.

Matt Duffy finished 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored as the Giants came back to best the Rockies 7-5 on Saturday.

Duffy now has seven homers and a .294/.342/.458 line and 36 RBI in 63 games. Red Sox prospect 2B Yoan Moncada went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases on Thursday for Low-A Greenville.

Advice: Moncada has struggled this season in his highly anticipated pro debut, batting just .215/.305/.312 through 26 games in the South Atlantic League. His double on Thursday was his fourth of the season, and he also has a home run and triple.
