  • Gyorko goes 3-for-5 with double, homer, 4 RBI
Jedd Gyorko finished 3-for-5 with a double, solo homer, four RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 12-1 thrashing of St. Louis.

Advice: Lady and gentleman, we've officially received signs of life from the 25-year-old second baseman. Gyorko hit just .162/.213/.270 in 221 plate appearances before missing close to two months with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Since his activation on Monday, he's gone 6-for-11 (.545). Gyorko is owned in only 33-percent of Yahoo! leagues, a number that isn't high enough. Based on the offensive chops he showed as a rookie -- including a .249/.301 /.444 slash line and 23 homers, which earned a five-year, $35 million contract extension -- it's not out of the question that the former top prospect could thrive over the next few months. • Solarte continues to mash, smacks 4 singles
Yangervis Solarte went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 12-1 romp over the Cardinals.

Advice: Solarte had homered in two out of his last three games. He's now tallied an extra-base hit in four of eight games since coming over to the Padres from the Yankees along with Rafael De Paula for Chase Headley. Solarte has slashed .364/.410/.606 during that period. He's a must-start in NL-only formats at the moment, but it's likely you can find better options in your mixed league on the waiver wire. • Omar Infante reaches four times in win
Omar Infante went 3-for-3 with a walk Wednesday in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Infante was hot before the All-Star break, but he entered tonight in a 4-for-38 funk. For the year, he's batting a respectable .268. Incredibly, he leads the Royals in RBI with 49, even though he has just five homers and he served a DL stint earlier this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Valbuena's homer, 3 RBI not enough for Cubs
Luis Valbuena went 3-for-5 with a game-tying two-run home run in the eighth inning, but the Cubs fell in 10 innings to the Rockies on Wednesday.

Advice: Valbuena brought the Cubs to a 4-2 deficit with an RBI single in the sixth inning, then knotted it up at 4-4 with a two-run blast off of Rockies reliever Tommy Kahnle. Ultimately, the Cubs fell in 10 innings despite Valbuena's best efforts. The third baseman has had a good season, slashing .253/.336/.434 with eight home runs and 34 RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • Dan Uggla likely to be released by Giants
The Giants are likely to release second baseman Dan Uggla in the coming days.

Advice: A report surfaced Wednesday that the team had already parted ways with the struggling infielder, but Uggla remains a member of the Giants for now. He likely won't be for too much longer, though, as sources have indicated to the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman that Uggla will be cut loose soon. Uggla is 0-for-11 with six strikeouts and three errors through four games with the club. Rotoworld.com

  • Nats having internal discussions about Murphy
The Nationals have had internal discussions about Daniel Murphy and Asdrubal Cabrera but no deal appears close, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Advice: The Nats are in need of an infielder with Ryan Zimmerman out for most of the rest of the regular season, and both Murphy and Cabrera would allow Anthony Rendon to remain at third base while pushing Danny Espinosa back to a bench role. Murphy would be a nice upgrade but would be tough to do within the same division, while Cabrera is a free agent after the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Giants release second baseman Dan Uggla
    Giants released 2B Dan Uggla.

Advice: Well, that was quick. Uggla played in just four games for the Giants, going hitless in 11 at-bats and committing three errors in the field. The Giants are rumored to be in the market for a second baseman before the trade deadline. Uggla's release emphasizes that idea. Rotoworld.com

  • Lawrie (finger) takes batting practice Wed.
Brett Lawrie (finger) took batting practice on the field at the Blue Jays' complex in Dunedin, Florida, on Wednesday.

Advice: Lawrie also took ground balls during his work on the field, and Jays manager John Gibbons said Lawrie may be ready to begin a rehab assignment by this weekend. It's a nice development for the infielder, who was believed to still be a few weeks away from returning. He could rejoin the club in early August after a short rehab assignment if things continue to progress. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Royals not close to Bonifacio trade
A source tells Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star that the Royals aren't close to a deal for Emilio Bonifacio.

Advice: Bonifacio was on hug watch after his name was absent from a delayed Cubs starting lineup, and the Royals were reported as his expected destination. It still could happen, but right now there doesn't seem to be a ton of fire there. Bonifacio and his .279/.318/.373 line remain likely to be moved before Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline. • Beckham among Giants' second base options
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports Gordon Beckham, Emilio Bonifacio and Asdrubal Cabrera are among the players being considered by the Giants to fill their second base void.

Advice: Bonifacio appears to be on the move -- somewhere -- and the Jays are in on Cabrera as well, but Beckham's name is one that hasn't surfaced much in rumors recently. The second baseman is hitting .225/.271/.358 this season and wouldn't appear to be much of an upgrade for any team, but he's cheap and is under team control for another season. Rotoworld.com

  • Rutledge (illness) out Wednesday vs. Cubs
Josh Rutledge (illness) will be available in an emergency on Wednesday night versus the Cubs.

Advice: Rutledge is still getting over the upper respiratory infection that kept him out of the lineup on Monday and Tuesday. He'll be on the bench again Wednesday but could enter late as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement. Rotoworld.com

  • Dodgers option Darwin Barney to Triple-A
Dodgers optioned 2B Darwin Barney to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Barney was acquired from the Cubs earlier this week for pitcher Jonathan Martinez, but the 28-year-old infielder is going to get some time in the minors before joining Los Angeles' active roster. Barney is an elite defender at second base, but he owns a .244/.290/.335 career slash line at the major league level. Rotoworld.com

  • Giants, Orioles interested in Bonifacio
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Orioles and Giants are interested in Emilio Bonifacio.

Advice: Both clubs are looking for help against left-handed pitching, and Bonifacio is sporting an OPS over 1.000 from the right side of the plate this season. He's being paid $3.5 million this year and will be a free agent this winter and shouldn't cost a whole lot. Rotoworld.com

  • A's, Giants exploring options at 2B
MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Athletics and Giants are "sifting through" potential options at second base, including Luis Valbuena, Asdrubal Cabrera, Aaron Hill, Martin Prado and Gordon Beckham.

Advice: With Chase Utley not expected to be traded, the above group is the best of the lot for contenders looking to upgrade at second base. Of the five, only Hill and Beckham list second as their main position. However, all have plenty of experience at the keystone. The D'Backs appear much more willing to deal Hill than Prado. • Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) out Wednesday
Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) is not in the Astros' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Gonzalez is still nursing soreness in his right hamstring after tweaking it last week. He'll avoid the disabled list for the time being, but the Astros will be cautious with his playing time. Rotoworld.com

Aaron Hill went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

  • Solarte continues to swing hot bat, homers
Yangervis Solarte homered, walked and scored two runs on Tuesday in a 3-1 win against the Cardinals.

Advice: Solarte delighted the faithful in his home debut, homering for the second time in three games. The infielder is off to a sizzling start on the West Coast, recording an RBI in six of his first seven games as a Padre. Solarte isn't likely to make anybody forget Chase Headley, but he is slashing .286/.353/.571 over his short tenure with the Padres. Rotoworld.com

  • Daniel Descalso exits after HBP on knee
Daniel Descalso left Tuesday's game versus the Padres after being hit on the right knee by a pitch.

Advice: Descalso was able to limp down to first base but was then replaced by pinch-runner Peter Bourjos. He'll likely be re-evaluated Wednesday before the Cardinals know how much time he might miss. Rotoworld.com

  • Hernandez doubles, triples in loss to A's
Enrique Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Hernandez also scored a run in the loss. The triple, which plated a run in the fifth inning, was his second in 23 games this season. Hernandez has held his own in his first go-round in the majors, batting .289/.357/.434 thus far. The spark plug doesn't hold much mixed league value, but he's certainly an AL-only commodity with his performance to date. Rotoworld.com

  • Rutledge (ill) out of Rox lineup again Tues.
Josh Rutledge is out of the Rockies' starting lineup again on Tuesday against the Cubs.

Advice: Rutledge is battling an upper respiratory infection and could need a few more days off. The infielder has performed well as Troy Tulowitzki's (hip) fill-in at shortstop but obviously needs to be benched for now in fantasy leagues that allow for daily lineup changes. Rotoworld.com

Aaron Hill (hand) flew out as a pinch-hitter Monday.

  • Emilio Bonifacio 'drawing interest'
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Emilio Bonifacio is "drawing interest."

Advice: It makes sense, as Bonifacio isn't part of the Cubs' long-term plans and he could be valuable on a contending team as a utility player. The speedster is batting .271/.312/.353 with 14 steals over 68 games this season. Heyman says that the Cubs also figure to shop left-handed relievers James Russell and Wesley Wright. Rotoworld.com

  • Josh Rutledge scratched due to illness
Josh Rutledge was scratched from Monday's lineup due to illness.

Advice: He should be ready to go in a day or two. Rutledge has hit .375/.375/.656 with one homer and nine RBI over seven games since taking over shortstop for the injured Troy Tulowitzki (hip). Rotoworld.com

  • Brett Lawrie not hitting live pitching yet
Brett Lawrie (finger) has begun hitting off a tee but has yet to face live pitching.

Advice: It's not clear when he'll be cleared for batting practice. Aaron Hill (hand) is expected back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Dodgers acquired 2B Darwin Barney from the Cubs for a player to be named later and cash considerations.

Advice: The Cubs designated Barney for assignment last week, handing second base duties to Arismendy Alcantara and Emilio Bonifacio. Barney had a rough .244/.290/.335 batting line in parts of five seasons with Chicago, but he's an elite defender at second base. The Dodgers plan to use him all around their infield. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Darwin Barney traded to Dodgers
According to Mark D. Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, infielder Darwin Barney is headed to the Dodgers.

Advice: Barney was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week after batting just .244/.290/.335 in parts of five seasons with Chicago. He is a very good defensive second baseman -- with a Gold Glove Award to prove it -- but the 28-year-old simply can't hit. Rotoworld.com

  • Padres activate Jedd Gyorko (foot) from DL
Padres activated 2B Jedd Gyorko from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Gyorko wound up missing close to two months with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. He was batting just .162/.213/.270 in 221 plate appearances before the injury, but the 25-year-old second baseman is capable of much better down the stretch. Gyorko signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension with the Friars in early April. Rotoworld.com

  • Dan Uggla goes hitless in loss to Dodgers
Dan Uggla had a rough night in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, and also making a critical error that led to an unearned run.

Advice: Uggla also drew a walk in the ballgame. He's now hitting an unfathomable .152/.234/.217 on the season and is closer to being released than he is to being fantasy relevant once again. Rotoworld.com

  • Solarte hits first Padres homer vs. Braves
Yangervis Solarte went 2-for-5 with his first home run as a member of the Padres in Sunday's loss to the Braves.

Advice: Solarte has enjoyed a revitalization since being dealt to the Padres, going 7-for-21 (.333) with Sunday's homer, five RBI and five runs scored. The infielder is hitting .260/.341/.396 overall. He'll continue to get everyday playing time for the next two months and is a decent option in NL-only leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Jedd Gyorko to be activated from DL on Monday
Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) will be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

Advice: He has completed a minor league rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso and deemed ready to return. Before hitting the shelf in early June, he had hit just .162/.213/.270 with five homers and 24 RBI in his first 56 games. Rotoworld.com

  • Murphy doubles, scores in win over Brewers
Daniel Murphy went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the Mets' win over the Brewers on Sunday.

Advice: Murphy has been locked in at the plate in recent days, going 7-for-12 in his last three games. The hit parade has raised his overall line to .293/.340/.412. With seven home runs and 11 stolen bases, Murphy has a decent shot at his second straight double-double season. Rotoworld.com

Aaron Hill (hand) is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Hill had to exit Saturday's contest following a hit by pitch on his right hand. X-rays came back negative, but he's obviously still a bit sore. Consider him day-to-day. Didi Gregorius is at second base Sunday in Hill's place. Rotoworld.com

  • Dan Uggla goes hitless in loss
Dan Uggla went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and committed an error at second base Saturday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Uggla isn't making a great first impression with the Giants. However, it's not like anyone else on the team had any luck against Clayton Kershaw tonight. Uggla will probably be back in the lineup against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu on Saturday. Rotoworld.com

  • Marwin Gonzalez returns to Astros lineup
Marwin Gonzalez has returned to the Astros starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Gonzalez sat out Friday's game as he was dealing with soreness in his right hamstring. The 25-year-old shortstop is hitting .271/.323/.394 with four homers and 14 RBI in his 64 games this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Dan Uggla goes 0-for-2 in Giants debut
Dan Uggla went 0-for-2 before being removed in a double-switch in his Giants debut Friday.

Advice: Uggla wasn't responsible for any of Zack Greinke's 10 strikeouts, so at least he had something going for him. The Giants are facing lefties the next two days, but it won't get much easier for Uggla with Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu on the hill. He's 1-for-12 with six strikeouts lifetime against Kershaw. • Rutledge drives in four in win over Pirates
Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in an 8-1 win over the Pirates on Friday.

Advice: Rutledge got the Rockies on the board with an RBI double in the third inning and later had a bases-clearing double in a seven-run seventh. The 25-year-old has hit .308 with three home runs and 16 RBI over 53 games this season and should get regular playing time over the next two weeks with Troy Tulowitzki on the disabled list. He should be a useful fantasy shortstop in the meantime. Rotoworld.com
