  • Kinsler moved to fifth in order Tuesday
Ian Kinsler will bat fifth Tuesday against the Athletics.

Advice: Kinsler has made 50 starts out of the No. 2 spot this season and one out of the leadoff spot, but Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has decided to shake things up against Kendall Graveman. Jose Iglesias will move into the second spot while J.D. Martinez will bat sixth.

  • Tigers call up Josh Wilson from Triple-A
Tigers purchased the contract of INF Josh Wilson from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: He'll fill the roster spot of Hernan Perez, who was claimed off waivers by the Brewers. The 34-year-old Wilson is a .226/.278/.316 career hitter and will provide some infield depth.
  • Brewers designate Herrera for assignment
Brewers designated INF Elian Herrera for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Hernan Perez. Herrera, 30, was batting .212 with four home runs and .633 OPS over 38 games this season and wasn't going to be a long-term piece for Milwaukee.

  • Franklin hits first homer, but the Rays lose
Nick Franklin hit his first home run of the season in a losing effort against the Angels on Monday.

Advice: Franklin had gone 2-for-29 in his first 11 games since being activated from the disabled list, so it was nice to see him have some success at the dish. He went 1-for-4 on the night.

  • Walker's double breaks tie, sends PIT to win
Neil Walker's two-run double broke a tie and proved to be the deciding factor in Monday's victory against the Giants.

Advice: Walker broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with a two-run double to left-center off of Ryan Vogelsong. It was his only hit on the evening in four at-bats. Walker's numbers aren't where they have been compared to previous seasons, as he's hitting .263/.324/.392 with only three home runs and 19 RBI.

  • Tejada stays hot, gets three hits to beat SDP
Ruben Tejada had three hits and scored twice in five at-bats as the Mets took down the Padres on Monday.

Advice: Tejada now has three multi-hit games out of his last four. He doubled and scored in the first inning, then singled and scored in the fifth. Tejada was recently anointed the club's regular third baseman by manager Terry Collins. He has good job security as long as David Wright is out and he's hitting. Tejada is batting .274/.357/.419 with eight RBI and nine runs scored in 70 plate appearances.

  • Murphy's 4 hits, 3 RBI contribute to Mets win
Daniel Murphy went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI single, and a two-run home run in Monday's victory versus the Padres.

Advice: Murphy started the scoring early with an RBI single in the first inning. He added a two-run home run in the fifth, starting a four-run rally. Murphy has been up-and-down offensively this year, but is currently hitting .286/.337/.418 with four home runs and 29 RBI.

  • Kendrick knocks in four runs in a rout
Howie Kendrick went 2-for-6 with an RBI single and a three-run home run as the Dodgers handily defeated the Rockies on Monday.

Advice: Kendrick capped off the Dodgers' six-run sixth inning with an RBI single, then added three more runs with a home run in the eighth inning. It was his first home run since May 12. He has five total on the season along with 23 RBI and a .292/.349/.443 triple-slash line.

  • Valbuena homers as Astros down the Orioles
Luis Valbuena went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's victory over the Orioles.

Advice: Valbuena tied the game up in the fifth inning with a solo home run off of Ubaldo Jimenez. He also scored the go-ahead run in a four-run seventh inning. 10 of Valbuena's 11 home runs this season have been of the solo variety. Along with 19 RBI, he's hitting .196/.260/.413.

  • Dilson Herrera (finger) swinging lightly
Dilson Herrera (finger) has begun swinging a bat lightly.

Advice: He's also begun throwing. Herrera was unable to grip a bat or baseball just a week ago, so he appears to have made big strides with his fractured right middle finger since then. There remains no timetable for his return.

  • Jimmy Paredes getting a breather Monday
Jimmy Paredes is not in the Orioles' lineup Monday.

  • Marlins not looking to trade INF Martin Prado
According to's Joe Frisaro, the Marlins are not looking to trade Martin Prado.

Advice: There are multiple contending teams in need of infield help, but Frisaro notes that Prado is under contract through 2016 and the Marlins intend to compete next year even if they can't claw their way back this year. Also, the Yankees are covering $3 million of his $11 million salary. He's a relatively inexpensive glue guy for a clubhouse that needs glue guys.

  • Giavotella's two-run single leads Halos sweep
Johnny Giavotella delivered a two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning on Sunday, breaking a 2-2 tie and propelling the Angels to a 4-2 victory over the Tigers and a completion of their four-game series sweep.

Advice: David Price had held the Angels down most of the night, but left the bases loaded in the eighth inning and Joba Chamberlain was unable to put out the fire. Giavotella also singled, finishing the night 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. With the two-hit effort, he's now slashing .265/.322/.348 with 17 RBI on the year.

  • Rays place Tim Beckham on 15-day DL
Rays placed INF Tim Beckham on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Advice: The injury forced Beckham out of Saturday's game against the Orioles and will cost him a couple of weeks on the shelf. A corresponding roster move has yet to be announced.

  • LeMahieu homers in 3-hit effort vs. Phillies
D.J. LeMahieu went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run as the Rockies completed a sweep of the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: LeMahieu extended the Rockies' lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning, ripping a two-run home run to left field off of Jerome Williams. The 26-year-old is quietly having a very productive season, batting .335/.385/.441 with three home runs and 25 RBI. He also has five stolen bases -- albeit in nine attempts -- giving him some additional fantasy value.

  • Mets to use Tejada as primary third baseman
Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that he'll use Ruben Tejada as the team's primary third baseman for the time being.

Advice: The Mets have been struggling for stability at the position since David Wright went down, and with Tejada swinging a hot stick at the moment he'll get a chance to be in the lineup everyday. He could be worth a look as a middle infield option in NL-only or deeper mixed leagues.
    Sunday, 1:13 pm
  • Tejada's late double sends Mets past Marlins
Ruben Tejada finished 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Sunday's win against the Marlins.

Advice: Tejada broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI double to left-center. The three-game set against the Marlins, in which he went 5-for-13, rejuvenated Tejada's bat, raising his OPS from .641 to .724. He still doesn't have any fantasy value, however.
    Sunday, 12:58 pm
  • Ian Kinsler hits first homer
Ian Kinsler finally hit his first homer of the season Saturday against the Angels.

Advice: It was his lone hit in five at-bats, but it was his first of the year to leave the yard. It was quite a power drought in an otherwise solid start. Of course, he does have 12 doubles and two triples, so he hasn't been completely punchless.
    Saturday, 11:18 pm
  • Tejada clears bases with three-run double
Ruben Tejada went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Tejada stepped up against Tom Koehler in the fourth with the bases loaded. He proceeded to unload them, doubling to center to tie the game at 5-5. The Mets wouldn't find much traction moving forward, though, ultimately losing 9-5 to the Marlins. Tejada is hitting .245/.344/.377 with a homer and seven RBI over 53 at-bats this season. He's not a relevant fantasy piece.
    Saturday, 4:32 pm
  • Tim Beckham comes out with hamstring cramp
Tim Beckham left Saturday's game against the Orioles with a right hamstring cramp.

Advice: Beckham pulled up lame on a groundout in the fifth inning. Nick Franklin pinch-hit for him in his next at-bat. The former No. 1 overall pick is day-to-day.

  • Giavotella not in Angels' lineup Wednesday
Johnny Giavotella is not in the Angels' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Giavotella has cooled off considerably after a hot first month and will take a seat against Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner. Grant Green is at second base.
    Wednesday, 2:20 pm
  • Paredes' 3-hit night not enough as O's lose
Jimmy Paredes went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored, but the Orioles fell to the Astros on Tuesday.

Advice: Paredes accounted for three of the five hits the O's scrounged up on the evening. He doubled in the sixth and later scored on a Chris Davis sacrifice fly, giving the Orioles a temporary 1-0 lead. Paredes has been one of baseball's unexpected breakout stories thus far, batting .348/.374/.576 with six home runs, 25 RBI, and four stolen bases.

  • Walker hits a 2-run home run in win vs. MIA
Neil Walker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, helping lead the Pirates past the Marlins on Tuesday.

Advice: Walker pushed the Pirates' lead to 4-0 with his two-run blast in the second inning off of Jose Urena. The 29-year-old is batting an uninspiring .259/.320/.395 with three home runs and 16 RBI on the year.
    Tuesday, 7:14 pm
  • Ian Kinsler getting a breather Tuesday
Ian Kinsler is not in the Tigers' lineup Tuesday.

Advice: It's his first day off this season. Hernan Perez is handling second base in Kinsler's place.

  • Rays recall Tim Beckham from AAA Durham
Rays recalled INF Tim Beckham from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Beckham was just optioned to the minors last week, but the Rays need him to provide infield depth with first baseman James Loney ruled out indefinitely after suffering a broken finger. Beckham was batting just .224/.266/.459 at the time of his May 22 demotion. He's doubtful to hold mixed-league fantasy value.

Dilson Herrera (finger) remains unable to grip a baseball or a bat.

  • Ruben Tejada to get long look at 3B
Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Ruben Tejada will be given multiple starts at third base.

Advice: Eric Campbell has really struggled at the hot corner, so the Mets will give Tejada a long look at the position. With David Wright (back) looking like he'll be sidelined for a while long, Tejada could settle into the position for a while if he plays well.
    May 24, 7:47 am
  • Neil Walker sitting out on Sunday
Neil Walker is not in the Pirates' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's just getting a breather. Josh Harrison is at second base Sunday, with Jung Ho Kang covering third.
    May 24, 7:35 am
  • Johnny Giavotella sitting out on Sunday
Johnny Giavotella is not in the Angels' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Giavotella is in the midst of a 3-for-31 slump at the plate. Taylor Featherston is handling second base.
    May 24, 7:33 am
  • Prado drives in lone run in 13-inning win
Martin Prado's RBI single with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning made 1-0 winners out of the Marlins in Saturday's contest against the Orioles.

Advice: Had Prado not singled, it's possible that this game simply would have sunk into a tear in the fabric of space-time, never to end. Prado made sure the universe remained intact. After Giancarlo Stanton drew an intentional walk to load the bases, Prado stepped up against T.J. McFarland and singled to end the game before any position players had to pitch. The hit extended Prado's hitting streak to six games and he's now slashing .273/.310/.341.

  • D.J. LeMahieu hits second homer
D.J. LeMahieu went 2-for-4 and hit his second homer Friday against the Giants.

Advice: LeMahieu is bating .326, but between his placement at the bottom of the Rockies order and his poor baserunning, he's scored just 13 runs. Fortunately, he's driven in 20, which has resulted in some surprising early-season fantasy value.
