  • Brian McCann leaves game late with injury
Brian McCann was removed from Sunday's game against the Rangers in the ninth inning with a cramp in his foot/calf.

Advice: Yankees manager Joe Girardi admitted that he was a little concerned about the injury and that the team would know more about it on Monday. Owners in weekly leagues may want to have another option available should it look like the veteran backstop may miss a few games.

  • Grandal (concussion) to DH on rehab stint
Yasmani Grandal (concussion) will serve as the designated hitter on his upcoming rehab stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: It's a good sign that he'll be ready to come off the 7-day concussion disabled list as soon as he's eligible to do so, as his timing shouldn't be off. Expect Grandal to rejoin the Dodgers by the end of next week.

  • Gattis powers Astros in slugfest win vs. DET
Evan Gattis tripled, homered, knocked in three runs, and scored three runs as the Astros eked out a win in a slugfest with the Tigers on Sunday.

Advice: Gattis brought in the Astros' first two runs with a triple in the first inning and later scored on a balk. He added a solo home run in the sixth inning. The slugger's bat has heated back up as the month of May nears its end, picking his triple-slash line up to .201/.233/.435 with nine home runs and 28 RBI.

  • Jeff Mathis (finger) begins rehab assignment
Jeff Mathis (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday.

Advice: Mathis has been on the shelf since April 13 due to a fractured right ring finger. In his absence, J.T. Realmuto has emerged as the starting catcher for the Marlins, which isn't expected to change once Mathis returns.

Stephen Vogt went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks and a pair of sacrifice flies to help the Athletics beat the Rays on Sunday.

Advice: Vogt made it 2-0 with a third-inning sacrifice fly, then added another in the ninth inning to make it 7-2. The catcher is likely headed to a spot on the American League All-Star roster, batting .306/.408/.605 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI.

Jonathan Lucroy (toe) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as next weekend.

Advice: Lucroy will have an X-ray Monday to see if his fractured left big toe is healed. If it is, he'll be cleared for a short rehab assignment and could be back in the Brewers' lineup next weekend when they take on the Diamondbacks. He's been on the shelf since mid-April.

  • Mesoraco to make decision on hip surgery soon
Devin Mesoraco is expected to decide whether to undergo season-ending surgery on his left hip when the Reds return home from their road trip Monday.

Advice: Mesoraco experienced continued pain while attempting to squat on Friday and hasn't even been available to serve as a designated hitter the last two days. Being able to catch again this season looks like a long shot, so he could decide soon to go ahead and have the procedure. "I'm sure we'll have some type of meeting," he said. "I don't know what we're going to do. I don't expect to be catching in the near future. We'll talk when we get back to Cincinnati."

  • Yan Gomes (knee) activated from disabled list
Indians activated C Yan Gomes from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Gomes wound up missing six weeks out of a projected 6-8 week timetable after he went down with a right MCL sprain. The Indians will not let him catch back-to-back games initially, so Roberto Perez will still see a decent amount of time behind the plate over the next couple weeks.

  • Yasmani Grandal (concussion) placed on DL
Dodgers placed C Yasmani Grandal on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Advice: Grandal suffered the injury Friday when Padres first baseman Yangervis Solarte hit him with his backswing. The Dodgers think he'll be back to normal soon but understandably wanted to be cautious. We'd expect A.J. Ellis to do most of the catching in his absence, though Austin Barnes could see time there as well. Barnes was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

  • Mesoraco suffers setback with hip injury
Devin Mesoraco (hip) suffered a setback in his recovery when he experienced continued pain while attempting to squat on Friday.

Advice: With this setback, he's unable to serve as the team's designated hitter over the weekend in Cleveland, but could still be available as a pinch hitter. It still looks as though the Reds will let him fight through the injury and avoid a trip to the disabled list.

  • Stephen Vogt not in A's lineup on Saturday
Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Rays.

  • Yasmani Grandal day-to-day for now
The Dodgers aren't sure whether Yasmani Grandal suffered a concussion Friday, but he won't play Saturday.

  • Vogt launches solo home run
Stephen Vogt launched a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: It was his 10th home run of the season and his first since May 12. With a .309/.408/.610 batting line to go along with 31 RBI, the 30-year-old has been the top fantasy catcher so far this season.

Yasmani Grandal was forced to leave Friday's game against the Padres after being hit in the head by Yangervis Solarte's backswing.

  • Braves inquired on catcher Jonathan Lucroy
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Braves inquired on Jonathan Lucroy but were told he was not available.

Advice: The Brewers are going to be sellers prior to the trade deadline, but one guy they appear intent on keeping is Lucroy, who is under team control cheaply through 2017. Heyman adds that the Braves have been "disappointed" by the play of Christian Bethancourt, who is batting just .190/.215/.286 and hasn't been as good as expected defensively.

  • Yan Gomes (knee) to be activated Sunday
Yan Gomes (knee) will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.

Advice: He will start the series finale versus the Reds. Gomes will be catching a full nine innings for the first time on his rehab assignment on Friday, and the Indians will be careful with him initially upon his return, not playing him in back-to-back games. Brett Hayes had been filling in as the club's backup catch and will be sent down on Sunday.

  • Gattis shows off wheels with RBI triple
Evan Gattis went 1-for-5 with an RBI triple in Thursday's extra-innings loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Gattis' triple off of David Price drove home the Astros' first run of the game in the seventh inning. To that point, Price had been almost untouchable (he finished the game with 12 strikeouts). The Astros would eventually claw their way back from a 5-0 deficit only to lose in the eleventh inning. Not normally the nimblest of players, the triple was just the second of Gattis' career. Gattis has a potentially explosive bat, but he's been very up-and-down this season, hitting .196/.220/.413 with 8 homers and 24 RBI.

  • Mathis (finger) set to start rehab assignment
Jeff Mathis (finger) expects to start a rehab assignment this weekend.

  • Gattis slugs two-run homer, Astros top A's
Evan Gattis slugged a two-run homer Wednesday in the Astros' defeat of the visiting A's.

Advice: Gattis also drew a walk in the afternoon victory over Oakland. He still has an ugly .196/.221/.406 season slash line, but that has come with eight home runs and 24 RBI in 38 games. A little more consistency would be nice.
    Wednesday, 2:26 pm
  • J.T. Realmuto sitting out Wednesday
J.T. Realmuto is not in the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.

  • Mesoraco (hip) has two hits against Royals
Devin Mesoraco (hip) went 2-for-2 with a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Advice: Serving as the designated hitter because he's still not ready to catch, Mesoraco showed that his timing is coming around at the dish. What that means when the team returns to a National League is still unclear, but the team obviously thinks he'll be alright without a disabled list stint.
    Tuesday, 8:24 pm
  • Yan Gomes (knee) could return on Sunday
Yan Gomes (knee) could be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.

Advice: Gomes will catch his first full game on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Friday. The likelihood is that he'll then join the Indians Saturday before being activated and playing on Sunday. Gomes is not expected to play in back-to-back games right away, as the Indians want to ease him back into things after he missed over a month with a right MCL sprain.
    Tuesday, 7:41 pm
  • Mesoraco (hip) goes through catching drills
Devin Mesoraco (hip) got into a squat position about 15 times and tossed about 15 balls to second base on Tuesday.

Advice: Mesoraco was only throwing at around 20 percent effort, but it's still a nice first step. He'll repeat the step on Wednesday and then could catch a bullpen session over the weekend. "At least I know I can get into squat position, which I hadn't done for 30-something days," Mesoraco said. "It's good. Definitely baby steps. We're not going to go crazy because those muscles haven't been used. It's going to be a slow process." Mesoraco hasn't caught since April 12 due to a left hip impingement.
    Tuesday, 5:51 pm
  • Mesoraco (hip) at DH for Reds on Tues. night
Devin Mesoraco is at DH for the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: Mesoraco will finally get another start with the Reds playing a two-game set in an American League park (the Royals' Kauffman stadium). He hasn't caught since April 12 and is still unable to squat due to a left hip impingement. It's a frustrating situation for fantasy owners.

  • Realmuto provides only offense as Fish lose
J.T. Realmuto provided the Marlins' only offense in Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks when he hit a two-run home run.

Advice: Realmuto tied the game up at 2-2 in the seventh inning with his blast off of Rubby De La Rosa. It's his first of the year. He went 1-for-4 with a walk along with the homer. The successor to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Realmuto hasn't done much at the dish as he's batting a meager .227/.267/.351 with eight RBI.
    Monday, 7:45 pm
  • Yan Gomes (knee) could return soon
Yan Gomes (knee) will catch seven innings on Wednesday during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: That's after he catches five frames on Monday. Obviously the Indians will want him to go nine innings before considering activating him, but manager Terry Francona said it won't be necessary for Gomes to catch back-to-back games. He's expected back pretty soon. "We understand that especially being a catcher, he's not going to be built up to where you can start playing him back-to-back," Francona said. "As long as he's healthy, we can activate him. Having him catch three times a week is better than not. We have to make sure he's completely healthy, so he can play the game."

  • Grandal's single drives in only run in win
Yasmani Grandal's run-scoring single in the fourth inning would be the only run scored in a 1-0 Dodger win over the Rockies on Sunday.

Advice: Grandal finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk. The two-out RBI single off of Kyle Kendrick gave Grandal 17 RBI for the season. He's also hit four homers and scored 17 runs. The catcher's been in a groove offensively and has a season-slash of .301/.421/.484 while helping to lead the 24-13 Dodgers.

  • Stephen Vogt sitting on Friday
Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Vogt will sit with lefty Carlos Rodon taking the mound. This is just a rest/match-up sit. There's no injury to report.

  • Yan Gomes to catch three innings Friday
Yan Gomes (knee) will catch three innings on Friday for Class-A Lake County and will DH on Saturday.

Advice: Gomes is recovering from a right MCL sprain. He's been rehabbing well and assuming there are no hiccups in the minors, he could be activated next week.
    May 15, 3:21 pm
  • Lucroy (toe) cleared to catch bullpens
Jonathan Lucroy (toe) has been cleared to catch bullpen sessions.

Advice: The next and final step after that will be a clearance to begin running. The Brewers haven't set a firm timetable from Lucroy's return from a fractured left big toe, but he seems to be tracking towards an activation before the end of the month.

  • Yan Gomes (knee) set for rehab assignment
Yan Gomes (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Lake County on Friday.
