    • Guardians acquire RHP Spencer Howard
Guardians acquired RHP Spencer Howard from the San Francisco Giants for cash and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Howard was designated for assignment by the Giants after he gave up six runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Dodgers last Saturday. He had a 5.63 ERA in seven appearances with the Giants this year. Howard will report to Triple-A Columbus as he waits for a chance with Guardians. Rotoworld Today, 12:29 pm

    • Officially activated
Hoeing (hamstring) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and is starting Friday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Hoeing has been shelved since May 3 with a strained left hamstring and after making five rehab appearances since June 14, he'll rejoin the active roster. While the 27-year-old is listed as Miami's starting pitcher, he shouldn't be expected to handle a typical starters' workload considering he hasn't completed three innings in any of his rehab outings and was used out of the bullpen before being injured. That being said, Hoeing has been utilized as a starter in previous seasons and could see multiple starts given the Marlins' numerous pitching injuries. Rotowire.com Today, 12:22 pm

    • Booted from 40-man roster
The Guardians designated Parsons for assignment Friday.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Spencer Howard, who was acquired via trade Friday. Parsons has posted a career 6.84 ERA over 38 appearances across parts of four major-league seasons. Rotowire.com Today, 12:15 pm

    • Heading back to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Tyler to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Advice: Tyler had made three straight starts with the Marlins, allowing five runs across 15.0 innings with nine strikeouts. However, the 27-year-old will give up his spot on the active roster to Bryan Hoeing (hamstring), who'll be activated from the IL to start Friday's game against the White Sox. • Traded to Cleveland
The Guardians acquired Howard from the Giants in exchange for cash considerations.

Advice: The right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Giants after holding a 5.63 ERA over seven appearances --two starts -- in 2024. Howard does not have any minor-league options left, so he will go directly onto the Guardians' roster, presumably working in a long-relief role. Rotowire.com Today, 12:13 pm

    • Nats transfer RHP Josiah Gray (elbow) to 60-day IL
Nationals transferred RHP Josiah Gray from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain.

Advice: The move was made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Juan Yepez. It’s unclear when Gray might return from his elbow trouble, but it won’t be anytime soon given the transfer to the 60-day IL. He had a 14.04 ERA in two starts for Washington this season. Rotoworld Today, 11:54 am

    • Back with Cardinals
The Cardinals recalled Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Advice: Roycroft has bounced back and forth between Memphis and St. Louis this season, throwing 15.2 innings with the Cardinals and owning a 2.87 ERA. Jacob Bosiokovic was optioned to Memphis in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 11:37 am
    • Moved to 60-day IL
Gray (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: Gray hasn't pitched since April due to a flexor strain in his throwing arm and will vacate his spot on the 40-man roster in favor of Juan Yepez. Gray suffered a setback during his rehab assignment and will be shut down from throwing for at least a few weeks. He's set to undergo an MRI near the All-Star break, at which point there should be more clarity on his recovery timeline. Rotowire.com Today, 11:29 am

    • Logs fifth rehab outing
Effross (back) tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter.

Advice: The appearance was Effross' fifth in a rehab stint that began June 19. The righty reliever is working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in October of 2022 as well as back surgery that took place last December. Effross has tallied a 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB over 6.1 frames in his rehab assignment thus far and is expected to be ready to return to the big-league bullpen after the All-Star break.
