    • Building workload
Priester (lat) completed five innings while allowing one run on three hits and no walks with six strikeouts in a rehab outing with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Advice: The outing was Priester's second rehab appearance, and he looks to be nearing a full workload. The Pirates' plans for him upon his activation from the 15-day injured list remain unclear, though he is a candidate to take the vacated rotation spot of Jared Jones (lat). • Stuck with loss Thursday
Houser (1-5) took the loss Thursday against the Nationals, striking out two but giving up a solo home run in an inning of relief.

Advice: The Mets managed only one hit on the day, but Jose Quintana kept the game scoreless through seven innings. Houser took the mound for the eighth and served up a one-out blast to Jesse Winker, and that was all the offense the Nats needed. It was the first long ball Houser had allowed in 23.2 innings since being shifted to the bullpen in late May, and the 31-year-old right-hander has been mostly effective in relief, posting a 1.52 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB during that stretch. • Throws bullpen session
Assad (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Assad is just a little over a week removed from landing on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm extensor strain, so it's a good sign that he's already been cleared to throw off the bump. The Cubs have a doubleheader on July 13, and Assad being ready by that date could be in the cards if all goes well. Rotowire.com Today, 8:20 am

    • Will open Friday's game
Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher in Friday's game in Cleveland, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: It's a role Miller is familiar with and succeeded at, having opened eight times already this season and allowed two runs (one earned) over 8.2 innings. Spencer Bivens is a candidate for bulk relief Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 8:16 am

    • Allows three homers in loss
Knack (1-2) was tagged with the loss against Arizona on Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over 4.1 innings while striking out six.

Advice: Knack appeared to be on the right track after striking out the first two batters to open the game. However, he would then surrender back-to-back home runs in the following at-bats to put the Dodgers in an early hole, marking the first time this season in which he's allowed multiple long balls in a start. The right-hander also gave up a season-high four runs on the night and has now failed to make it through five innings in each of his last two outings. On a positive note, he's posted a 13:1 K:BB over that two-game stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 7:22 am

    • Lasts four innings in no-decision
Gallen did not factor into the decision in a win over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: The Dodgers put Gallen to task early, drawing 85 pitches out of the right-hander over four innings, with all three runs coming against him in his final frame. It marked Gallen's shortest outing of the season outside of his injury-shortened appearance on May 30 against the Mets and he's now allowed three runs in three of his last four starts (excluding May 30). It was also only the third time this season in which Gallen issued three walks. Rotowire.com Today, 7:12 am
    • Unable to hold lead
Bernardino allowed two hits over a third of an inning and was credited with his first blown save in Thursday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Marlins.

Advice: Bernardino has been exceptional as a high-leverage reliever but was unable to preserve the lead on this day. The left-hander, who entered the game having prevented 15 of 17 inherited runners from scoring, permitted both IRs to score in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing Miami to tie the game. Bernardino has a 1.17 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 30.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am
    • Records seventh save
Beeks picked up the save in a win over the Brewers on Thursday, hurling 1.1 scoreless innings while striking out one.

Advice: Beeks relieved Tyler Kinley with two outs and two on in the eighth and got Garrett Mitchell to go down on strikes to escape the jam. The lefty returned for the ninth and went 1-2-3 through the top of Milwaukee's lineup to secure his seventh save of the season and his first since May 31 against the Dodgers. Beeks has not allowed an earned run in either of his last three appearances, while also posting at least one strikeout in each of those outings. Rotowire.com Today, 6:41 am

    • Takes third loss
Myers (5-3) took the loss against the Rockies on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings.

Advice: Myers allowed multiple baserunners in each of the first two frames, leading to three runs coming home early for Colorado. He then cruised through the next two innings before surrendering a solo shot to Jake Cave in the sixth, marking the second game in a row in which the 25-year-old has given up a home run. Myers also allowed a season-high eight hits on the night en route to being handed his first loss since May 4 against the Cubs. On a positive note, he's now gone at least six innings in five of his last six starts. Rotowire.com Today, 6:39 am
