    • Allows four runs in loss
Gilbert (5-5) took the loss against the Orioles on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings while striking out six.

Advice: Three of the four runs charged to Gilbert came across in the third inning when he walked two of the first four batters he faced, and he then surrendered three consecutive two-out hits. The right-hander gave up a solo shot to Ryan O'Hearn in the fifth, marking the first time he's given up four or more runs in his last six outings. Gilbert had gone at least six innings in nine consecutive starts coming into Wednesday's loss, while the three walks were the most he's issued since May 14 against the Royals, which covers a span of nine starts. • Notches 23rd save
Finnegan earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday with a perfect inning of work.

Advice: Finnegan protected a two-run, ninth-inning lead by retiring the side in order on 11 pitches. The right-hander has converted 10 of his past 11 save chances and has allowed just four runs over 17.1 innings during that span. Finnegan has been one of MLB's best closers this season, ranking third in the league with 23 saves while posting a 1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over 36.1 frames. • Logan Gilbert gives up four runs in loss
Logan Gilbert allowed four runs with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a loss against the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Gilbert worked through two quiet innings against the Orioles before things unraveled a bit in the third. He walked two batters to put a pair of runners on for Ryan O’Hearn, who doubled to put the Orioles on the board with two runs. Ryan Mountcastle singled to make it a three run game before Gilbert struck out the final batter to escape the frame. He surrendered one more run on a solo homer by O’Hearn in the fifth and recorded one out in the sixth before his day was done. The 27-year-old right-hander will take a 2.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 108/24 K/BB ratio across 117 2/3 innings into a start against the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday. • Collects 13th save
Alvarado allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: This was Alvarado's first save since June 11, as Jeff Hoffman and Seranthony Dominguez had poached the last three saves. Alvarado remains the Phillies' top closer with 13 saves on the year, with Hoffman (seven), Gregory Soto (two) and Dominguez (one) rounding out the high-leverage group. Over 35 innings this season, Alvarado has maintained a strong 3.09 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:12 K:BB. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:26 pm
    • Ryan Pepiot all over the place against Royals
Ryan Pepiot labored through four innings on Wednesday against the Royals. He allowed four hits and three walks without striking out a batter in a no-decision.

Advice: Pepiot could not place his fastball in this one. Too many were in the heart of the zone and so many more were way off the plate. Of the 43 pitches he threw, the Royals swung-and-missed at just one and took only four called strikes. That’s untenable for a pitch he threw 49% of the time. Without it working, he kept falling behind and had to grind through difficult innings. Things will not get easier in his next scheduled start against the Yankees. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:12 pm

    • José Alvarado silences Cubs to net 13th save
José Alvarado fired a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Cubs to record his 13th save of the season.

Advice: Alvarado was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning at Wrigley Field and managed to work around a one-out single by David Bote to preserve the victory. The 29-year-old lefty has converted 13 of his 15 save opportunities this season for Philadelphia. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:53 pm
    • Kyle Finnegan shuts down Mets for save
Kyle Finnegan worked a clean ninth inning on Wednesday to earn the save against the Mets.

Advice: Finnegan earned his 23rd save of the season, third most in the league, on Wednesday night. He looked sharp as he worked his third consecutive game and dropped his ERA down to 1.98. He’s been one of the most reliable closers in baseball so far this season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:35 pm

    • Hit hard in Tuesday's loss
Cease (7-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings as the Padres fell 7-0 to the Rangers. He struck out five.

Advice: The right-hander got no help from his offense, but Cease created his own problems by serving up six extra-base hits, including a pair of homers by Nathaniel Lowe. Cease has been tagged for four runs or more in three of his last four starts, walking multiple batters each time. He'll take a 4.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 130:32 K:BB through 102 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Diamondbacks. • Perfect in non-save outing
Finnegan struck out one over a perfect inning in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: Finnegan entered in the top of the ninth in a 2-2 game and fired a perfect frame. The 32-year-old has delivered four consecutive scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk over that stretch. Finnegan owns the third-most saves in baseball with 22. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:48 pm
