    • Rangers option Davis Wendzel back to Triple-A
Rangers optioned INF Davis Wendzel to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Wendzel was optioned back to the minors ahead of Thursday’s game against the Padres. The 27-year-old rookie infielder has gotten into 27 games this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:09 pm

    • Luis Rengifo undergoing MRI on right wrist
Luis Rengifo is out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics with right wrist soreness.

Advice: X-rays came back negative for any fractures after Rengifo left Wednesday’s game against the Athletics with right hand soreness following a ninth-inning swing. However, he’s slated to undergo an MRI on Friday in Chicago to determine the extent of the injury, specifically whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. There should be an update on his status in the coming days, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until the weekend, even if he checks out completely fine. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:02 pm

    • Rockies outright Elehuris Montero to Triple-A
Rockies sent INF Elehuris Montero outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Montero was designated for assignment last weekend after hitting .205 with a .571 OPS so far this season. With nobody claiming him on waivers, he will return to Triple-A where he hit .359 in 35 games last year with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. He may simply be a good Triple-A hitter who never quite finds his footing at the big league level. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:17 am

    • X-rays negative, but MRI coming
Rengifo is not in the lineup Thursday in Oakland after X-rays on his right wrist came back negative, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Rengifo is set to undergo an MRI on Friday to check for structural damage. The super utility player was injured during Wednesday's loss to the Athletics while taking a swing in the ninth inning. Miguel Sano is playing third base for the Angels on Thursday. • Outrighted to Triple-A
Montero cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Montero was DFA'd by the Rockies on Sunday after slashing .205/.267/.304 over 247 plate appearances, but he'll officially remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Until the 25-year-old is able to turn things around at the plate, he'll serve as organizational depth in the minor leagues. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:37 am

    • Could return next week
Rendon (hamstring) is expected to take live batting practice this weekend and could be activated from the injured list as soon as July 8, per MLB.com.

Advice: Rendon hasn't played in a game since straining his left hamstring April 20, but he's recently ramped up his participation in baseball activities and is on the verge of batting against live pitching. The veteran third baseman previously indicated that he was considering agreeing to a minor-league rehab assignment, but it now appears that a rehab stint will be bypassed. Given the amount of time Rendon has been out, the Angels may elect to work him back into the lineup at a careful pace upon his return. However, the team may be in need of reinforcement at third base if Luis Rengifo's wrist injury is more than minor. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:29 am

    • Out of Thursday's lineup
Merrifield is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Merrifield has gone 4-for-23 over his past 11 contests and will hit the bench for Thursday's series finale in Chicago. Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas and David Dahl will start from left to right in the outfield. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 am

    • Sent down to minors
The Rangers optioned Wendzel to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Advice: He's being sent out in favor of a fresh relief arm. Wendzel has just a .397 OPS in 27 contests with the Rangers this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:20 am
